I agree. Every comment besides this one is a joke...
It's too bad, it seems like he was (is?) working on some ambitious projects too. Not to mention attaining the Turing award and the first Berkeley CS Ph.D.
I guess nobody deserves respect, not even a distinguished contributor to a field. (That is, if they work for msft.)
Actually, from what I tend to see around here, most slashdotters seem libertarian-minded. (Small L.) Who knows, maybe you know better than me, your ID# clearly wins.
I guess stereotypes don't exist without someone reinforcing them, though.
Haven't you heard of those damn 'pirates?' You know, those immoral souls who laugh while downloading anything and everything they can get their greedy hands on? See here for more. [pdf warning]
I have beaten almost every sonic game for genesis (3D blast being the exception.) I was also younger than 12 at the time, and all I can say was that despite recycling themes and gameplay for 3 sonic games, the first sonic trilogy was FUN. They had a formula that worked for level design, bosses were always different and creative, certain levels had other things to do(slots in casino night zone? checkpoint minigames?) Now, I'm glad they didn't make another sonic side-scroller back then, as it would have been simply milking for cash.
But how should Sonic look and behave next-gen? (now, current gen?) It's simple.
-Keep sonic badass. Sonic has always been badass, but not OVERDONE. He always looked badass just by looking mean and shaking his finger. Tails should serve as a foil to his badassness. Shadow makes me cringe as a one-time sonic/sega fan -- way too overdone.
-Keep the former cast of Sonic. There was no need to create a slew of new characters, IMHO. With the comic book series from a few years back, plus minor characters from other games, was there a need for new characters? Guess the old ones weren't cool enough for 'next-gen.' Familiar characters would have kept old fans coming back. Sonic has even had love interests in the past! Don't tell me you can't work that into a game.
-Most importantly -- KEEP the feel of GAMEPLAY. The old Sonic games were easy to pick up and play. You couldn't really get lost, and there wasn't a myriad of moves to learn just to understand the game. Mario made the transition well into 3D; Sonic didn't. I saw another/.er's video of the Wii Sonic to come out, and I must say it looks closer to what a 3D Sonic should look like. Fast paced gameplay, ring collection, but in a 3D environment. Sonic should feel faster than Mario and other platformers.
So ends the rantings of a former fanboy. I must also admit, I haven't played many of the recent Sonic iterations, but if reviews (user and site) are any indication, I'm not missing out on much. Sonic needs to return to its roots.
Miyamoto was quoted as saying the console would be $250 this time around because of exchange rate differences between economies. (I'm sorry, I lost the link and can't find it. It was a major site though.)
Anyways, I think the 'exchange rate difference' in the market recently is primarily the weakening of the USD. Nintendo is a smart company, and probably wants a few dozen US dollars extra to make sure they aren't getting gyped. If I were observing the US from an objective or business-oriented point of view, it would make sense...
Sub-$300 with a decent title (smash pls?) seems good to me.
After it was all over, I ended up complaining about GameTap to the BBB. Like any month-to-month 'subscription' service [see: gym], they will try to shaft you on exit. I cancelled my service TWO TIMES, then got charged the subsequent two months, but didn't notice until that second month. All I was able to get back was one $15 monthly payment. Be careful what you tell the GameTap associates on the phone, as if they don't enter notes into their 'call log' then the call didn't really take place, despite cell phone records or anything else.
Oh, and the only reason I was entered into a month-to-month agreement was because I failed to opt-out of their 'FREE TRIAL' after two weeks. Really not worth my trouble, as almost everything they offered I already had...ah well. What would you expect from Time Warner?
I usually don't comment much, but when a nationally-recognized news anchor makes stupid comments, I feel obliged.
He says, "All of a sudden Ringo isn't a Beatle? All of a sudden somebody changes a standard and Curly isn't a stooge, or Zeppo isn't a Marx, or Ari isn't one of the "Entourage"? Actually I don't know why Pluto got itself unmade as a planet. I didn't even read the rest of the story, frankly."
My god. Yeah, because Ringo Starr's status as a Beatle hinges on statistics and his orbital ellipse, just like Pluto's. Look out for that 'Two Stooges' DVD also. John Gibson sounds like a prick -- if our understanding of the universe evolved John Gibson's way, we might still be afraid to fall off the edge of the world, or the Sun might still rotate around the Earth. The changing of 'standards' is inevitable as a better understanding of the universe becomes available. The more technologically advanced we become, you can bet laws, theories, and yes, even TEXTBOOK PRINT may become outdated.
(Note: this rant directed toward John Gibson's stupid 'rebuttal,' regardless of the IAU decision whether Pluto should be considered a planet or not.
Wow. The tape is actually just as bad, if not worse quality than the first.
And you really should check out some of the evidence against the Pentagon attack, hell, while you're at it check out some other evidence: Loose Change.
The fact is, there are other cameras that recorded the crash, the tapes were confiscated right after the event occurred. This video does not satisfy me.

Well, tech-savvy Opera users only have to type "g " in the address bar.
I worked at OfficeMax for over a year. I feel your pain, comrade.

...and don't say a word.
This guy kind of says the phrase 'kind of' kind of too often.
You obviously didn't bother to click the link I posted.

I'm glad they released it promptly. I don't doubt the integrity of the tape at all. (rolls eyes.)
I, for one, welcome our new crustacean overlord.
What makes anyone think that the human race will even survive that long? I'm sure World War III will happen long before this does...
How is this flamebait? It's a perfect example of Fox News' "Fair and Balanced" reporting. Completely unbiased.
'Myspace 2.0'
of all the words in the Enlgish language, 'bling'?
Not the horrid Sam Bulte incident... I remember that made headline news. Couldn't sleep for weeks.
hahahahaha. see you on the peerlist.
