in my experience here in boston, realtors who are aware of craigslist will post properties on there and use that as a way to direct clients who like apartment X that they saw on craingslist, when in fact that property (at least here in the insane boston housing market) is probably already gone.
one realtor seemed to be getting the vast majority of his clients through craigslist postings that had very little to do with the apartments he was going to show the clients.
i take it i should stick to a very solid LAMP base then look into ruby on the rails once i have some real code under my belt? make sure i don't learn some trendy language that dies in a couple years? and i assume this isn't a good language for someone with very little (essentially no) experience to jump into and try to learn?
also, how is this implimented? does it preform operations serverside that output the html/xml/whatever code in a similar fashion as php? does it include database software in the ruby framework or do you still need something that is/is like Mysql to handle databases?
sorry for the double post, this just occured to me. anyone know what's going on with GAIM 2.0? perhaps the above file transfer crappyness will be resolved?
i've heard several people say things like "if GAIM fixed file transfer bugs i'd use it in a heartbeat" i use it regardless and i'm a huge fan. there's a whole lot of tweaks and things that make the client feel like i have it running just like i want. at this point i could never switch out unless GAIM just stopped working.
i seem to have a problem with not only the super small resolution but both DSL and puppy seem to love to pick out the worst 3 colors and only use those when displaying anything. i realize the screen won't support 32 bit color, but something like just black and white would be nice.
if we can teach little kids not to take candy from strangers can't we teach people not to give credit card numbers to people on the internet? not sure putting that burden solely on the banks etc. is the only solution...
i'm not concerned about my personal data, i know im not importatn enough to steal data from, nor am i paranoid enough to think someone's going to want it. i was trying to play the devil's advocate and raise that point to contribute the discussion becuase i felt someone else would raise it if i didn't.
and to be honest i don't really know enough of anything about encryption to have commented on that aspect of the discussion.
i wouldn't trust those straw thinkness prufiers with my life. i'd get some polar pure since that works chemically not just with a cabon filter deal like those straws probably will. doesn't taste too bad either. the kenetic flashlight's a good idea, could just get a solar powered one...
because in the event of a "leave nyc forever" caliber event, you have no idea where the hell google's gmail servers are geographically. and then google has all your personal data. that seems like a pretty terrible idea from a security standpoint, even if it is encrypted. nothing's completely unbreakable.
if you're leaving on foot, take paper copies of everything, tape it to your chests so your bodies could theoretically be ID'ed if you were to die (we're talking hyptohetically, lets go all the way)
i'd be way more worreid about water purification, food, and the ability to cover enough ground on foot to get away form the disaster before you run out of food and water. if you're a typical person i don't htink you're going to be doing more then 20 miles a day with plenty of food, and that's being generous. do you have shelter? i'd suggest a water proof pack from granite gear that weighs 1.5 pounds without anything in it. that's what i'm brining when the shit hits the fan and we're all dead.
i've had an asus mobo in this box for 3 years in december and it's always run without a hitch, i put the newwer model of this board in 3 other builds and have worked great. asus makes quality stuff in my experience.
i've heard people talk about the doom and terror that is coming to the gaming industry in the near future for months now. huge studdios will stifle the creation of quality content, only what sells will get made. you'll notice these articles only pop up in between big releases, no one was talking like this right after Battlefeild 2, World of Warcraft or Half Life 2 game out. the gaming industry is just like television now, there's lots being realeased and there's still the same ratio of crap to quality, just more crap total. good games will still be made, you just may have to wait a second and realize awesome games don't come along every 3 months or whatever.
i engountered the same thing when i attended a concert at conneticon easrlier this summer, there were very few people "rocking out" but there were so few that there were roughly a dozen people up and getting into the music and 1/2 that just sitting there. the whole thing felt rather awkward, i think nerdcore music in that vein tend to be something enjoyed in the privacy of one's home and nerds listen to very little besides that and don't know how to really get into it. in short i don't think many nerds are also regular concert goers. you could get a level or two in your current Massive in the itme it takes to go to a concert.
"a lot of technologies and standards being spewed out of labs"
it's like the scients have standards just brimming in their labs and you open the doors and BAM standards issue forth in torrents!
i can't read this anymore.
i would be more concerned about image burn-ins then i would about the display burning out. i don't want to spend 2 or 3 times as much on a plasma then an LCD and constantly have a task bar or desktop icon burnt into the screen. i'm sure your display looks good but if it looks twice as good for 1/2 the time at 4 times the cost you're better off with the cheaper display over time. (excuse the rather questionable TCO calculation but i'm sure you get the point)
i'm not so sure about military applications in space, with wars being what they seem to be today it seems space based weaponry or reconnosance would not be as useful as it was/would be in a superpower v. superpower cold war conflist not the superpower v. anyone/everyone else we seem to be in today.
if there is one thing that needs to happen to make extra-planetary manned missions feasable it is
PROFIT!
with the increasing privatization of space in the coming decades and the looking energy crisis maybe the turn of the next century will see a marked increase in space exploration for the explotation of resources.
perhaps a billion+ dollars in dead ends due to lack of "space age" materials like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-33: may be a thing of the past with these types of advances.

because when you pay 500 dollars for a video card you want it to be ahead of the curve, you want it to support all the new features 6 months from now.
please rate parent "-1 teh wurst sp33lin i seen on /." maybe a -1 Incoherent too.
I took a spanish final exam and looked at some new monitors to buy. I'm going to eat dinner soon, i bet it will be awesome.

i'm going to just start suing people if people don't stop suing each other so much.

i think i remeber reading about the guy that broke this at a confrence a few months back...
