    Nothing about this is new, we have game centers where where you can play Online Q3/UT/HL.
    Also there is a Net Mame version that will allow you to play multiplayer.

    As for Credit Cards, hell ya, at 2 bux a play for some of these new games, you need a big bag of quarters...

    The merchants are throwing money at AT&T to have customers directed to them.
    The PocketNet phones have preselect vendors to choose from on the website.
    So, Barnes & Nobel wants to be the number 1 vendor, over both Amazon and CDNOW.
    They will pay damn good money to be first on the list of merchants.

    This is the same with Yahoo and its Portal of merchants.
    You read a review of DVD, the link too buy is a perferred vendor.
    Or the perfered news service is ABCNEWS not Reuters or AP...

    As things dwindle down to the last remaining Internet portals, the merchants who are preferred win.

    Normally it goes from tech support - NOC -> Admins.
    NOCS do the indepth troubleshooting, since they are the 24/7 support.
    Admins are on call 24/7 but they only take critial problems after hours...

    Whoa, the job market has tons of jobs, if your not happy MOVE on..
    I soon realized I had to leave a smaller town and move on, if I wanted a career.
    Some of my friends STILL have not left, I keep offering them jobs, but they have a damn confidence problem...
    There seems to be a problem with people underestimating their value.
    DAMN it people, goto DICE/Monster and post your resume!

    Also, if they don't give a damn about you, why do you want to work there?
    Only reason to take a job is, training, experience, or they pay you piles of money...
    There is no reason you cant look for a new job, while you have one.

    You need to check out Telco type NOCS (Network Operations Center) aka 2nd tier tech support.
    If you have any UNIX experience, your basically hired, turnover is high.
    And they train you, since they need things done in certain ways, UNIX and networking basics.
    Tech support is your key into higher paying jobs, they love to promote from within.
    Ask if they do Internships, we hired 3 after they graduated.

    NOC's are a little hidden gold mine. I get to take my friends who are NT tech support, and convert them to the dark side. :)
    The pay is better too.

  7. Dont think you understand on Computer Or Docking Station? · · Score: 1
    A Port repilcator costs about 300 bux, a Docking stations with pci ports cost about 600.
    This makes your laptop a FULL PC. It has some features that most dont have, Internal Bays, and works with All laptops.
    I picked up a c/dock2 docking station for my laptop 799 bux, only thing it gave me was 2 pci slots, and 1 place to plug in my floppy. But then I was able to add a voodoo3, (only pci card i could find)..

    The thing is, this works with all laptops, no need to buy any more docking stations every again! Just need linux drivers, and it would be perfect..

    All these releases are 386 compiled, non-optimized Linux distribution are getting on my nerve.
    Where are the P2/P3/K7, SMP, IPMasq/ed -O3 optmized distributions?
    Which I had time compile everything!

    On with the Modern Iron! :)

    Actually, I work at the largest CDPD telco in the usa. Thought ID add some info to your post.

    1. All the CDPD phones do have an IP address, and does have a TCP/IP stack.
    2. Big Brother doesnt have a Cozy relationship at all, we demand warrents and only after legal says ok, do we release information. (IF we log it!)
    3. CDPD is flat fee now, and the basic service is free.
    4. True true, Marketing loves to spoon feed you, but it pays the bills.

    Technology being replaced, What a new concept. ;)
    Of course WAP is going to be replaced when we have Broadband wireless, but unless you have the trillions of dollars and a million men to update all the basestations, and backbone network to support it, its not going to be overnight.

    People expect TOO much too quickly. If you remember a few years ago.
    People using 2400 baud modems, to connect to BBS's. Technology replaced the BBS's and modems with High Speed Internet Connection and Webservers.

    WAP is a toy? I disagree again.
    Just cause the basic content is fluff, doesnt make it a toy.
    Some of the more "business apps" ive seen are Delivery services, Public Safety, Work Order systems, Ticketing systems, Instant Messaging, Commerce, and on and on...

    All the telcos use Phone.com's Uplink gateway. The feature set is more than just Email, its Content conversion, Alert functions, DB structure, High Avaliablity, Billing, PIM/SYNC, etc.. And yes its Email isnt bad either.

    But its not the Gateway software that gets the phone on the network, its the MDIS (Mobile Data Intermediate server) that allows SMS/CDPD devices (aka phones).

    Then you can use freeware SMS gateways (check www.freshmeat.com)

    So do I.

    Win4Lin for SPEED. Office is very fast and smooth.
    Also Cant play a video game other than solitare. No DX support. ;)

    VMware on the other hand, does have a better networking model, not just winsock.dll support..
    Takes more memory and cpu to run. But was able to play quake2 very smoothly on a p2-400.

    I have to download the 16.7 meg kernel for a readme file!
    Couldnt /. at least post whats new? Or a url for the readme?

    Please a little more info on the news stories please...
    I'm a linux user, not a kernel developer, need the info...

    Companies only monitor e-mail for 1 reason, Political Correctness law suits.
    When companies have to pay millions for dirty jokes/etc, we end up in this draconian state that we have now.
    Common sense is no more, so laws are passed to regulate it.

    Didnt a law pass so consumers can keep their phone numbers?
    This way they can use any phone company, and not change thier phone number.

    So in that case we do OWN the phone numbers.

    AT&T had most of us move from dedicated ISDN to DSL/@Home via VPN.
    Which is fine by me, My X traffic needs all the bandwidth I can give it...

    So, I went with DSL. I will never use an ISP that has bandwidth charges, or insane rule policies.
    My 70 bux can goto an ISP that allows unlimited bandwidth, Servers, Static IPs and is Domain friendly.

  20. Plex86 vs VMWare vs Win4Lin on Plex86 Runs DOS · · Score: 1
    Havnt seen any talk about Win4Lin (aka sco merge for linux).
    Win4Lin can be found at http://www.trelos.com/
    Its from the same people who wrote Merge for SCO.

    Only tried the Eval version, but was very impressed. Ran Exchange/Office at normal speeds.
    Since its bangs the hardware in realtime, its much faster than any virtual machine.

    Cons:
    1. No sound support
    2. TCP Winsock.dll hack
    3. No DirectX
    4. No SMP support
    5. Does compile in the kernel.

    Pros:
    1. Cut and paste between linux/win
    2. Multiuser (each user just runs "win &"
    3. Low memory requirement
    4. Optimzed for Office apps
    5. FAST!!!

  24. Oh man. on ABC Ads Target Answering Machines? · · Score: 1
    Been up to 20 calls a day, and hang ups. And caller ID allways said Unknown Name, Unknown Number.
    We called and got everything blocked, our name put on all lists to be removed.
    This cut out 90% of the calls. The last few, we had to dial a number afterwords and do a trace.
    We then call the phone security (hah!) department, and have them open a complaint... Oh yeah, we have to pay for it!

    I can filter my email, Why cant I filter my Phonecalls!

    Everyone wants people to view thier site.
    Hits pays the bills, so people are moving to message forums.

    What about Ultimate Bulletin Board exporting messages to newservers?
    Then its the best of both worlds.

    Only newsgroups I use anymore are hardware vendors.
    I'm on a dozen webbased message forums, all those banner ads.
