If you own your place, try changing out the dimmers to regular switches?
7 diameter base? What kind of huge bulb are you replacing? That thing must weight a lot. Or do you mean a 7 foot diameter lighted area?
Why not a regular old timer instead of the light sensor? On at 6PM off at 6AM? Maybe you have to change it for daylight saving time twice a year. But no biggie. Those are either on or off so they should work with any kind of light that plugs in. I have seen wired in ones too but have not personally used any. So I can't speak as to how good/bad they are.
You have never had one burn out? I have had 5-6 burned out/blown in the past year alone. These were in 4 lamps and two ceiling fixtures. The old regular bulbs lasted 2-3 years. So far the longest CFL for me is 8 months.
I remember reading somewhere that people were taking the old motherboards (and add in cards) melting them down for the gold in them. I have no idea that gold was used in those old computers. But people threw away gold without a second thought.
IBM could buy AMD but they couldn't sell the CPUs to the general public. Remember that IBM is forbidden from selling CPUs for home desktops. If IBM didn't have this issue there would be no Intel. IBM has a much larger fab facilities then Intel had (maybe still). How many hundreds of CPUs are in those mainframes?
On laptops that is easier said then done. Non gaming stuff, the newer laptop GPUs have been better. The ones I have seen in stores and read about. The Intel GPU for desktops those mostly have been no so good. It looks like the laptops ones were better then the desktop ones. Most laptops do not give you the option of adding in a video card. It would be to Intel's advantage to but a better GPU in there.
And if it does reach $0 and the company doesn't fold. Time to buy a few billion shares at $0 per share. It never happen, but isn't a company dead when/if it's stock hits $0?
Which network driver? Intel? Broadcom? Realtech? ABC123? Was it the 10/100 one or he 10/100/1000 one? There are a lot of network drivers out there. Since microsoft doesn't let us download the install files from them directly, we are boned when the hardware changes. If microsoft went to a live CD/DVD like a lot of distros do, it could be better. Make a live disk with as many network drivers and the live OS. Then download everything else from there. Microsoft might have better installs, but who would you trust to have the correct driver for your hardware microsoft or the company that made that hardware?
I would have done this in January when I purchase day Toshiba Gaming laptop... But there are no drivers for video card(S) (SLI), or sound cards for XP! So I am STUCK WITH VISA if I want to play games, watch videos, or listen to music. (Or do anything fun)
They don't take MasterCard? Have you tried American Express?:P
The source will still be there. Just a fix that says : call abc123() had an error when a string was sent to it instead of a float and would cause a stack overflow... would not be there. Maybe he means that explaining exactly how to use a bug might be a bad thing?
I have a server 2003 setup at home for a gaming system. XP ran slower than server 2003 on the same exact machine. And server didn't use the 10k raptor drive. All the benchmarks I ran server got 20-25% better scores (same hardware) with a slower RPM hard drive. Server 2003 looks like microsoft's best gaming os they released (I haven't gotten my hands on 2008 to try it yet).
Going back to the NT days, if you ran server vs the workstation, server ran batter with less overhead then the workstation versions. It got closer with the 2000 versions, but I still liked server over pro. It seemed a little bit faster when installed on the same box.
I tried to do that. I had the database systems set to output all the jobs status to one location. Check that location, see (if any) jobs needed to be re-run or something fixed. I had everything running smoothly and my boss thought that I was being over paid for doing nothing. He never understood the database system, but wanted to hire all his friends so they could work and play together everyday. He got rid of myself, and every other member of the IT team that wasn't on his list of personal friends. He said to me, "your not happy here, go find somewhere else to work". then ripped me apart on my review for doing what I was told to do. Not told it writing, just told mind you. (get things in writing if you think you boss might try to stab you in the back) About two weeks after being forced out, I got a call from a VP two levels up from him. The database systems was not working correctly. I told them I do not work there anymore, and I could not help him. Unless he wanted me as a contractor, there was nothing more to discuss. My fees, which was a really cheap, were approved (he made that decision anyway) but the rest of the IT team, all of my ex boss's friends said they were going to quit if I was hired to fix the problem. They went with a different contractor. $200,000 and three days later the database systems was working. They were fleeced by the other contractor. What had happened was the server racks were moved 3 feet over with everything still running (bad idea to start off with). Both plugs to the database server were yanked at the same time. Then the new guy unplugged a few drives in the raid 5 array and powered on the server. The databases on that array were all down. They needed to do a recreate the RAID array and databases. Then restore from backup. And that was it. The new IT team didn't know that and the consultants took thee days to do that.
The interest on a mortgage can be written off come tax time. Rent cannot be written off. Renting can leave you with more short term funds. Owning the place and paying the mortgage is a better long term plan. Which may mean you are living in a not so nice area depend on what you can afford. I do not know all of CA's neighborhoods. You have to weigh your options.
How long yo plan on living there? How much can you afford? Where is acceptable for you to live? Location vs how far/long the commute to work is.
He can't tear down Microsoft. It's a beast onto it's own. All that's left is to try and compensate for some of that evil elsewhere. Charity is a pretty good spot to recoup karma, IMHO. Certainly better than hookers, blackjack, and coke.
Getting good karma with hookers? Please, PLEASE, explain this further.
Lets see if it works. Send a bunch of seeds that we think will grow there. Of course the lack of water might be a problem. Are there any arctic cactus?
That can be a bad thing. Your family orders stuff and has it shipped to your address to avoid sales tax. Then you got to bring/ship it to them.
Now try explaining to your girlfriend that the Victoria's Secret order is not for her and she shouldn't be mad/jealous. Then calling your parents to tell them that they are getting the therapy bill for thinking of your mother wearing said Victoria's Secret outfit.
Companies do not see the many eyeballs to their source as a good thing. They see that as giving their competition free and easy access to their code hence losing any advantage. That is an uphill battle with many businesses. One that will take time to over come.
Most likely since it microsoft was broken up, certain parts would have died off. Those parts were pet projects of top people and they didn't want them to go away. What would you break microsoft into? I would split them into: OS division, browser division, programming tools (Visual studio, C++, etc.) division, office suite division, games division, hardware division. I think one is missing. Main point is, which one(s) would be hurting without the others?

This a trick question?

I thought $0 would be the bottom for any stock.

I got a screen shot saved from after a windows crash. The message that popped up on the web page (after that stupid sending info to microsoft) was:
The error was caused by Windows XP
I haven't laughed that hard in a long time. There were no recommended solutions either.
Why would you want XP (home/desktop OS) for a web server? Wouldn't you want an OS that is a server one?
*Bows to the 4 digit Slashdot ID*
Next a 3,2,or single digit ID will pop up and I have to get lower
That works great... IF DRIVERS EXIST!!!!!
I would have done this in January when I purchase day Toshiba Gaming laptop...

Keep your friends close.
Keep you enemies closer.
Maybe the companies/police want to see how he does his things so that can change their code to counter act it.

Should that be the other way around?
If you laptop gave you the itch, you might be a geek.

You can cross the bridges into New Jersey for free, but you have to pay to get back out.
That is true for all the brides going into NJ. New Jersey, free to get in. You got to pay to get out.Companies do not see the many eyeballs to their source as a good thing.
