I remain skeptical also. The resolution is small for one thing. Is there a way to get larger resolution for these games? I'm used to games taking up my entire screen.

Also what will be cost of this service? I mean is it aimed at people who can't get proper hardware for these games? If you can't afford the hardware why would you afford this service? What happens when this service goes down?

They have to homogenize. If the two factions were either perfectly balanced or not in competition with each other it would not be a problem. But because it is very hard to balance the factions if they are different, and because the factions are competing with each other for player, move to a more uniform factions is natural. When one faction has an edge over the other, however small, it is detrimental to both factions! This has been proven over the history of WoW and many other games.

  13. Re:As the great Bartle said on Why Don't MMOs Allow Easier Transportation? · · Score: 1

I don't know about that. Ultima Online, the grandfather of MMOs, has had near instantaneous travel to anywhere in the world. Yet despite this people still gravitated towards social hubs. Though such hubs varied by server a bit as players created their own hot spots. You could go anywhere in an instant (provided you have the properly marked rune), but you might not find anyone there.

The world was still big enough to find a spot to bash monsters and not be interrupted by any but the most diligent player killers.

While UO evolved and moved towards a bit more restricted travel in some instances, it still maintained hot spots vs cold spots dynamic. There were places that took effort to get to, and were usually deserted.

And what will people eat instead? The problem has never been too many cows, it's always been too many people.

As a side note I can see the classic corporate dick move. Come up with a cow that create less methane. Patent this cow. Lobby US Congress to mandate that this cow become the only cow allowed by law under the guise of lowering methane emissions. Sit back and collect money.

Also why does this cow make less methane. Do we know for sure that there is no side effect to this? Maybe the cow is less efficient at digesting. and requires more food. Maybe it just tastes bad. When you try to select for a certain gene, you usually realize rather quickly that a gene does more than one thing. So far they have not made this magical cow. When they do, we might find that it is impractical to use this breed of cow at all.
