I am wondering if isn't an identity crisis with Google. You have execs that have been hired from places where money is king, and then you have the old blood and original founders of Google attempting to still follow the "Do No Evil" mantra. I have a feeling that what we are seeing here will quiet possibly point us to Google's future behavior.
I have indeed seen the ads that Google has started to show, but was unaware that they paid the poster a portion of those ad revenues. Thanks for pointing that out for me.
The article never fully explained how they received $100,000 from youtube. Was it the t-shirts they were selling? If so, I would say they earned $100,000 from selling t-shirts of their now famous son and not that they received the majority of their funds from the youtube video itself even if it was an direct cause of those t-shirt sales. To me, the t-shirts are an indirect stream of revenue caused by the video. Revenue directly from the video itself to me would mean ads before or after the video or some other means of revenue that is passively accrued after the video is viewed.
I would love to have it cleared up for me as to exactly how "most of the money came from Youtube."
I've been 2 months behind all of the articles for sometime, so forgive the late response as I'm just now catching up.
I would like to point out that if you read Wii forums on the exercise games, that many people are CRYING out for a controllerless way to exercise with something interactive like the Wii. The Xbox 360's Kinect will do exactly that. If the software is programmed competently so that the motion is recorded accurately, the Xbox may have a HUGE hit with those of us attempting to use such devices for weight loss or simply an entertaining way to exercise.
In my opinion, the only exercise games on the Wii that even comes close to recording your movements while giving you a great workout is the EA Sports series. The only reason why those particular games come close is because they attach the Nunchuck controller to one of your thighs so that it can increase the accuracy via a manual hack if you will. The attachment device eventually starts to rip and you have to buy another one. That's the best exercise series the Wii has to offer - a series that forces you to continually purchase a strap because it rips.
Believe me when I say the Xbox 360 has a great chance of ripping the exercise market away from the Wii.
Enter the Wii Motion Plus. Check out these Youtube Wii Motion Plus Vids. The motions no longer seem limited for the games that support this new device.
Natal might start to get annoying as it seems you have to get scanned before each game.
Too bad I didn't respond to you when this article was being read and modded as this isn't just a response to you but others that have said something similar. University of Central Florida's motto in a few of their classes state that UCF's motto is, if it isn't broken, fix it. Sounds silly to some, but it stands for exactly what you post states.
It's awesome that we keep finding evidence of water on Mars, but how are astronauts going to live there long term? Expanded space crafts? Bubbles? Underground? Or how about an even better long term solution if eventually possible: strengthen the magnetic field for mars so it can hold more of an atmosphere while molding the air to our needs.
I guess the question to ask then, is how about GMail? Does anyone know if they are more secure? If so, then perhaps it'd be worth our time to convince some more people to switch for the sake of security.
Nice article, but it doesn't explain how to get the program up and running in a few minutes like a Windows installer and an icon on the desktop would do. I'm assuming what you did to get it up and running took more than 5 minutes?
Also, after reading a few of the posts with those that DID have difficulty, those that used cgywin as I stated earlier did not have issues with it. Those that tried to follow the directions for windows without using cgywin DID encounter issues such as this guy.
Kudos for the article and getting it to work under windows yourself though.:)
Switzerland is alpha software. Remarkably, it runs on lots of different
operating systems (we've seen it work on Linux, OS X, BSD and Windows XP), but
because it's alpha software we can't promise that it's easy to install on all
of these operating systems. We're looking for volunteers to help with a
Windows installer!
So for those looking for an easy install in Windows, you won't find it yet. Seems like cgywin under Windows XP is indeed the way to go.
Small problem: Those were the days when you had more competition. On dial-up, you could call any number and therefore have your internet served to you through any company. Now let me ask you something: Who owns the local CO for either your DSL switches or your Cable switches? Your local monopoly does. Is there another companies switch in there? No. Does the data traversing those switches go to any other companies for service? Maybe, but does your local monopoly charge them to use their equipment first? Yes. Is this going to effect decisions this time more so in favor of the big companies? You bet.
So what are we possibly about to learn? History does not always repeat itself no matter how much you want it to.
This will be way too far down on the comments and way too late if it gains any merit for being modded up, but if this project is successful at least as far as launching and accelerates up to a decent speed, then I would think this could also serve well for garbage collection. We could use a large solar sail made of carbon nanotubes strong enough to handle the impacts of the space debris and speed up the craft to the relative speed of most of the debris and attempt to redirect a lot of it into our atmosphere or at least into a path that will take it only a decade to burn up instead of a hundred or hundreds of years.
As far as I'm concerned, the only appeal Obama has is his desire to withdrawal us from Iraq. But his negatives outway any benefit he may have in my opinion. The media thinks he's on the same level as Bush as far as experience in politics is concerned, which isn't too comforting as I think that was and is one of Bush's Achilles heels. His opinions dealing with weapons are not too appealing (he's against concealed weapons entirely and if a burglar steals your weapon and uses it against someone else, you should be liable in Obama's opinion). I disagree with Obama's effort on the current tax system as well; I fully believe it will be wasted effort. A form of the proposed Fair Tax is where we need to head. Fair Tax isn't perfect, but a consumer tax just makes more sense to me then trying to fix our current system. (Also, perhaps part of this is why Sweden is getting their push on their banks which I also don't agree with.)
There is more as to why I don't agree with Obama, but you haven't exactly given me a detailed answer explaining yourself as to why you prefer him over all of the others. All you have offered to me is insults.
Now find me a candidate that supports the Fair Tax, wants not only to fix our education system but promote science in the classrooms, support more government spending on DARPA competitions and NASA funding as well as other government science initiatives, promotes stem cell research instead of restricting it, offers a tougher immigration policy, thinks Iraq is a waste of time as well as forcing US policies on other countries, supports nuclear power and other non-coal and non-gas energy, wants to make US government more efficient and to start paying off the national debt, and while doing all this leans more towards the consumer than the corporations and you'll find my presidential candidate.
I also have a side interest of having prisoners who have been proven guilty of malicious intent murder with dna and several witnesses being used for medical research instead of the death sentence, but that's not on the forefront of anyone's mind so I suppose it's too much of a dream to hope for.
Well if the democrats had put up someone besides Gore or Kerry, I would have voted for the other guy. But Bush was, in my opinion, better then the other two. Gore is still going on about Global warming when after all the spouting he's done about it, you'd think he's learn that it's global climate change, not necessarily warming. You think he would have been a good president? I disagree. Kerry a billionaire who can't make up his own mind representing us? I think not. And while voting for Bush wasn't the best decision, we don't exactly have a great voting system do we? I can't vote for who I really like because we all know that there are really only two parties who get the votes.
In any case, I think it's going to happen again. I don't think Clinton or Obama are good for presidency. I was hoping for Bill Richardson, but he didn't get any of the votes. On the Republican side, I was hoping for Mike Huckabee, but people think he's too religious and would have killed science in the classrooms. They also apparently didn't think tax reform was important.:-\
So looks like I'll be voting for McCain. Do I think he's the best candidate? No, but it's Republicans vs Democrates like always and I simply don't like who ended up being the Democrats choice.
Sure I could "throw away" my vote on an unlikely candidate to voice my opinion, but I'd rather vote on someone that makes me feel like my vote counted.
So while you may not thank me for voting in Bush twice, I don't thank the democrats for giving even crappier competition.
My list of must haves in a woman: - No drugs (non-prescribed of course) - No alcohol - No smoking - No tatoos - No excessive jewelry - No excessive eyebrow plucking (if at all) - No dying hair - No Bulimia or anorexic issues - No makeup if possible or very little - No perfume or hair spray - Not older than me - Must be able to think for them self. (Have some sort of brain)
Now when you consider most American girls, I bet I just eliminated at least 90% of the girls 18 and over and you can't really trust the 18 year olds as they are still trying to make up there mind as to if they want to follow the sheep or not.
Now my list isn't even half way finished, but I ask: Who's the picky one again?
Holy crap! He says global climate CHANGE... not warming as the media keeps repeating. I've heard it so much lately, this global warming, that even out of this intelligent man, I was expecting him to way warming instead of change. I spend a good portion of any talk that touches "global warming" trying to convince people that saying it is warming is stupidity as not everywhere will get warmer and on a consistent basis (at least not yet). Even though the global yearly temperature might be increasing, this effect is not noticeable to many people and therefore casts disbelief. Yet at the same time, people have noticed climate changes and talk about them. Now if only they would tie the two together and the only way I can see that happening is if the media gets their vocabulary corrected.
Anyway, thanks for the video. It shows what an insightful and intelligent man he was.
I'd love to see her take $2 million, but then after paying the taxes and her lawyer, donate $50k to 10 more cases as they come up (or 100k for 5 more cases, which ever is a more realistic price to win a case like this). That would make 5 to 10 more people the RIAA would have to buy off and at the same time, more lawsuits to put dents in their armor.
I am a US citizen, and I also agree that having an equilibrium is a good thing.
I prefer the UN way of thinking, which is to save force for when its almost too late (aka completely necessary) and stick to talking things through. I also believe the US should try to stay out of other people's business more so then it has.
So please don't think all US citizens worship the US military and think we should be enforcing US beliefs on other nations. I also realize that the history books I was forced to read in school were most likely written US biased on several occasions.
According to this semi recent article, Will Smith is not a member of CoS. I respect Will Smith as a person as well as his career, so after reading him say,"I don't necessarily believe in organized religion." I will sleep better next time I watch one of his movies.:)
I think you need to amend your thoughts on Huckabee a bit. You left out his immigration policies completely which have actually been pushed much more so then his stance on the Fair Tax. I've often tried to explain what I've read about him and his administration of Arkansas, but perhaps you ought to scroll down to the post by Anonymous Admin or simply click this link.
Nothing like a resident from Arkansas itself to explain Huckabee better.
As was mentioned in another reply to you, the person probably has a subscription. But beyond that, I wanted to ensure you that when you have dial-up with no other choice, you learn how to make it effective. For instance, they could be running Firefox, Adblock plus extension, no styles, using a scroll wheel mouse, and if you read the those 4 sentences carefully you can tell he obviously didn't spell check before posting.
I think it's highly believable that he could have been using dial up to get that post. Now had it been a slashdot article about a 10 minute youtube video and his post referenced the video he supposedly had watched, then you may have had a point.
