A more useful question, it seems to me, is what one gets out of such games. It seems like their "educational" value is limited to demonstrating the correctness of the underlying ruleset, which is to say, the correctness of the developers' prejudices. Passing that off as "learning" seems entirely counterproductive to me.
Exactly. Who decides what is educational or not? Recently 'intelligent design' was recommended as a part of the curriculum of our 'educational system'. Will the same people proposing 'games for health' consider Bush Game educational? Or will a game about aliens creating life on earth for harvesting after a few billion years be educational?
Beware: I lost 2 years of my life to Civ III

Two years of college spent playing Civ III, a plague that infested my computer, brain, and subconscious. Civ III is an addiction that forced me to fail exams (I fought back so it wasn't as bad), destroyed my social life (or whatever little I had), and basically turned me into a zombie. This is one of the only few games I know that slows down as you approach the end. BTW, for serious Civ players, there is no end...Grraaaahh!!!
And now Sid Meier has cursed mankind with the latest nemesis Civ 4. Comeon gamers! Fight to the end. Civ 4 should not win again!!!
Together we can defeat this enemy. Brace yourself and buy this game.
Ok, what if everyone included a GPL License with their shared porn vids? Will limewire consider it licensed porn? I am surprised that all this is going on in USA, the self proclaimed harbinger of freedom.
is there anything that prevents you as sharing "HALF LIFE 2 REALLY WORKS PLAYS ONLINE.EXE" as your own work though?
You can also change file names, like make an W3Works.exe.doc, change all ownership info. Then compress the file to W3Works.exe.doc.rar with a text file of instructions in the rar! I think the whole idea of 'we-won't-let-you-share-copyright-work' is to get the RIAA off Limewire's back and let them blame the users for what happens afterwards.
Here is the correct line: Defense and communications technicians will team up to develop a mobile combat robot to fight against human soldiers on the battlefield, the government said Wednesday.
In recent years these companies have been dashing out some software innovations faster than Microsoft.:
My question: why does Microsoft have to worry about its rivals' innovations? Innovation was never Microsoft's strong point anyway. Microsoft's policy is to let others do the innovation. They just jump into the market at the right time with enough momentum to make a difference.
I know something about windows on embedded systems, the mfc dll leaks memory! If amateur users write games or "extras" for your cellphone using mfc, and doesn't link statically to the mfc library, then that app will most likely leak a lot of memory thus freezing your device. Some modules like GPS can also malfunction and cause a system freexe if incorrectly tampered with. M$ knows about this problem but they decided not to fix it while they were concentrating on bringing.NET to handhelds. I don't know what the current status of mfc dll is on mobiles....peace.
Now this is boring, but I once read an interesting article regarding the issue of communism and open source (Is open source communist?)
I can see similar questions being raised about the "Community Internet" as well, and it makes sense why such things don't last too long in USA. The entire discussion of communism in Community Projects seems focussed around proving how evil they might be simply on the grounds of being remotely communist or hinting to be so. "Its communist so don't do it" is one of the many messages delivered in many forms.
Basically, if an ISP can make good money off providing broadband service, why will it let a community body run such projects for free or cheap? The student loan system in USA is a vaguely related, yet relevant example. Why do we have 500+ billion for war but not for education or medicare? And free Internet?
By the way, a description of life is: An open, coherent spacetime structure kept far from thermodynamic equilibrium by a flow of energy through it---a (carbon-based) system operating in a (water-based) medium, with higher forms metabolizing (oxygen). I wonder if we can consider Stars as living beings, because similar arguments can be made for them too. Heck, everything has life!
I am troubled by the title of the post: Yahoo! Mail Superior to Gmail ?
I know 90% of people here dislike microsoft more than google. There is also an obvious bias against all-thing-not-google (which includes Yahoo!). But do we need to be biased even when we are submitting a story?
"Yahoo! Mail reported Superior to Gmail" seems more balanced.....does anyone else agree?

Since when does a funny quote become informative? Don't you guys get the joke?
Maybe it will become a reality after all. But only after we put a man on the moon! heck, can we put man on the moon with this thing?
