In the case of the taser, the electric shock is deliberately caused and the victim has no opportunity to avoid it.
I think that in the cases where the taser is being used properly, the victim has had ample opportunity to avoid being tased by complying with the officer's commands. It is the case where the taser is being used on already restrained individuals where what you say is true, in which case the problem lies not with the taser but with the officer(s) in question.
That said, the idea that many of these people did not die at the very least in part to being tased is absolutely ridiculous.
Children should be able to distinguish between entertainment/fantasy/fiction and reality, not just adults. It is not a difficult concept at all. Children can easily understand the difference between fantasy and reality and it takes minor effort from parents to confirm that understanding in their children.
I think people just expect other people (maybe not often enough) to not be hypocritical. It is not a matter of them thinking the people who fight criminals are worse than the criminals or ignoring the criminals. It is just a matter of maintaining fairness.
Is that so? I doubt you know a representative sample of CEOs to be able to make such a claim with any sort of real validity. Your opinion sounds like the result of strong emotions toward the CEOs that do unethical things.
Actually, I think suing someone is outside of the free market. It involves the judiciary regulating each of the two parties. That is why it is an unethical and unfair thing to do to sue a company for no good reason rather than actually have to compete in the market.
Ever consider that the reason kids have no common sense is because they are spoon fed everything they should or shouldn't do? It seems like we do everything we can to prevent young people from actually using their brains to make a decision, and then we're upset that they can't think on their own and use common sense.
Unfortunately, it isn't easy to run software as a non-admin user on a Windows machine. Way too much software assumes you will be admin and won't run without it. Rosetta Stone is a popular example of software that must be run as admin.
There is a huge difference between doing something phenomenally stupid and doing something phenomenally cruel as well as stupid. These kids were certainly old enough to know that what they were doing was wrong. Brushing off kids drinking to stupidity is one thing, but justifying people's cruelty just because they are young can not be a good thing.
Ok. Following you reasoning: I'm not willing to pay him for his music, so he doesn't deserve my money.
Following your reasoning: If he can't get me to pay for his music, then 0$ is what he deserves. You are not the market, therefore you were not following his reasoning.
You are wrong in saying that there is nothing wrong with democracy. Oppression of the minority by the masses is an inherent problem of democracy. Franklin said it best -- "Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch."
Creationism is about a supernatural force overseeing things--it says nothing specific about how things actually happened. I am afraid this is not true.
I'm going to use the bible as an example for this post, but this would apply to any organized religion.
The bible teaches that Eve was made from the rib of Adam, and this statement directly conflicts with evolution. Most theologists may agree that Genesis is highly metaphorical, but it wasn't always that way. Theologians are forced to take this as metaphorical because there is massive amounts of evidence that this didn't happen and they are rational people that can see that evidence. Any conflict with these people would be artificial.
However, there are MANY people who take a strict interpretation of the bible and for them there can be no metaphor and thus direct conflict remains. This is not a small cult of people, it is in the millions at least. It can't be discarded as some aberration. There is nothing artificial about this conflict.
They have to get people to sign those agreements to have any hope of firing someone that is incompetent. Anyone can come up with an excuse as to why they were fired. "Oh, I was too (fat, black, muslim, old, female) so they fired me." I would bet that this guy was not the money saving IT expert that people on Slashdot are making him out to be. When I was working in IT at 18 I was undoubtedly better at my job than several of the people who were old and had been there a long time. Being old and having experience doesn't necessarily make you better at your job than someone with little or no experience if they are a skilled person. It is funny how much people on Slashdot love to say how incompetent and stupid their coworkers are, but whenever someone gets fired it is because the company is being evil.
You have to work with incompetent people because it is nigh impossible to fire someone (someone has to basically burn the building down) without having to worry about some kind of discrimination lawsuit.
Your evidence doesn't make sense. The Wii has worse graphics than the PS3 yes is outstripping the PS3 in sales by a mile. This would imply (if it weren't for the price difference) that gameplay is more important to consumers than graphics.
Gravity and electricity are also just theories. Evolution is at least as much a fact as these things.

Does such a forum exist on the internet? If so, I would like a link to it.

Interesting that your "real world" scenario involves gnomes and magic.

I'm sorry, but there is a perfectly good reason Vista would be 'slower' than XP. It is trying to do more with the same hardware.
/. have any real idea about how the OS was designed and/or optimized.
Honestly, I don't think you or most of the people on

People say this all the time, but I have never seen a link to real evidence of it (a study, not anecdotal). Does someone have one?
Yeah, because the government has NEVER cut corners to cut costs. What country are you from?

Come on, everyone makes mcsteaks. Give the guy a breke. Minus whale add it to the Internet lingo.
