  1. Streisand on Denials Aside, Feds Storing Body Scan Images · · Score: 1

  3. No loss to me on Barnes and Noble Bookstore Chain Put In Play · · Score: 2

This isn't a loss in my world. B&N in my area had 7 aisles of "christian inspiration" where "religious studies" should have been, "judaica" consisted of 12 books (of which 4 were holocaust history) "current events" (read sarah palin and rush books) where "political science" should have been, half the store devoted to the bargain section, two rows of way way overpriced journals, the most mainstream programming books that appeal to entry-level, and annoying cashiers reminding me how much i could have saved if i had their loyalty card. My god, I don't remember the last time they were even useful for me. Amazon, otoh, has received maybe 60% of my book purchases in the past 2 years. What can I say besides they have what I'm looking for?

  6. Build the new and they will come on Sun Founders' Push For Open Source Education · · Score: 3, Interesting

The reception to this effort will be especially positive after the Higher Education Opportunity Act goes into effect (requiring a list of changes for a new edition of a textbook showing how it differs from the older edition). As it currently stands, the author could change a few equations, and add a couple graphs, and call it a new edition.

Subtraction is just addition using negative numbers. Why not skip subtraction altogether and just do addition? And hey, multiplication is just addition done over and over, and division is just subtraction done over and over, so we could simplify all those operators down to just one.

If I can't have privacy, I'd at least like anonymity. That's what we are really after anyhow. Privacy relies on your identity being known, but your activities remaining unknown.

Saying that a family member has an iPad and does not fit into the stereotype being portrayed is not the same as saying that I have an iPad (which I do not BTW) or that I am defending/supporting it (which I am not) or that I am promoting it (which I am not). Learn to read.

Well yeah, considering that, for most of them (judging by the iPhone users and other macfans), that consists of "it's shiny and makes me look hip."

My mother has an iPad and she fits your gross generalization in no way whatsoever. In fact, she fits into a completely different category I would just call 'convenience based end user.' She cares almost nothing for what others think of her aside from how good her casserole was at the pot luck or if she was a good hostess for Thanksgiving. I'm really tired of the /. mentality on what an Apple product user is.

It seems the source of the documents may be deciding what is harmful, although that is not conclusive from the statement. I dare say that the source is likely to understand what can "harm" than you or I (or Julian) may be.
