    Close, but no cigar. closes an empty tag in XHTML. Slashdot uses HTML, so it shouldn't work. Most browsers will just ignore it, but it can still lead to some problems. Look up SGML SHORTTAG NET to see why.

    In that case, Linksys owes me a new router. :) After all, wifi is just an unlicensed secondary service operating on the ham band, and so is subject to interference. I mean, seriously, most consumer RF devices operate on frequencies allocated to something else. Most of the time this isn't a problem. Sometimes it is. Would you really want to replace all those devices?

    Not at all. As a new driver (I turned 16 in October, and started driver's ed about a year before that), I think this would cause a lot of problems. Like you said, lights make things easy for people. I know I have the most trouble with things like unsigned intersections, merging, etc. Heck, right of way at a four-way stop is hard enough. :) And my experience is in the Chicago suburbs. I don't even want to think of a major downtown with less traffic control.

    It is indeed an excellent definition list. I think if you added a doctype, changed to , and took it it would even validate.

    PS: Who jumped at the sight of a nextid tag? This is some seriously old markup. Then again, the fact it stills displays on my 2006 browser is a tribute to the longevity of the Web, I guess.

    It's possible to snoop on someone's cordless phone. This is illegal.
    Is it? It's just a radio device, after all. Then again, there may well be special laws for cordless bands. I know there are for the analog cell phone bands.

    Umm, my fresh Ubuntu Edgy install plays a sound when I login to Gnome. I'm sure other distros have startup sounds too.
