"CentOS mainly changes packages to remove upstream vendor branding and artwork" It is sad that so many of you are "ok" with this. RH does 99.999% of the work and CentOS takes it all and rebrands it and that is about it. Nice. I guess you would consider that a "benefit" of the GPL.

  8. Re:Contradicting Itself? on Eclipse Makes Java Development on the Mac Easier · · Score: 0

Eclipse isn't pure "Java" in the sense that it uses SWT and not SWING for its UI. I know SWT is Java, of course, I mean that SWT isn't everywhere that SWING is and it takes more time to get SWT up to speed because it is using "native" widgets. SWT relies on the carbon API and not the cocoa so hopefully that will change as well. Netbeans rocks on OSX.

  19. Re:"or interfered with" on Hypervisors Can Defeat GPLv3's Anti-Tivoization · · Score: 0

As I read the license, forcing a modified program to run in a sandbox with insufficient privileges just because it has been modified would fall under "or interfered with". But even if a device manufacturer did win in court on this alleged loophole, it would become subject to 1. public humiliation and 2. FSF releasing all new versions of its software under GPLv3.1. I don't agree with you about the "interfered with" and I am sure a whole lot of people would also. If the modification were made I am sure you would see a shift away from the GPL because "free" then becomes "restrictive".
