I don't want to start a holy war here, but what is the deal with you Slashdot Beta fanatics? I've been sitting here at my freelance gig in front of Beta (1920x1080) for about 20 minutes now while I attempt to reply to another poster. 20 minutes. At home, on Reddit via IE11, which by all standards should be a lot slower than Beta, the same operation would take about 2 minutes. If that.
In addition, during this post, Chrome will not work. And everything else has ground to a halt. Even Javascript is straining to keep up as I type this.
I won't bore you with the laundry list of other problems that I've encountered while browsing various threads but suffice it to say there have been many, not the least of which is I've never seen Beta run faster than its community-driven counterparts, despite the Betas' faster bootstrap design. My 486/66 with 8 megs of ram runs faster than this site layout at times. From a productivity standpoint, I don't get how people can claim that the Slashdot Beta is a superior forum.
Beta addicts, flame me if you'd like, but I'd rather hear some intelligent reasons why anyone would choose to use Beta over other faster, cheaper, more readable fora.
...his boss whom he considered an idiot...I'd have to agree with that assessment
Second that motion. I'd say these guys are like the Marx Brothers of network administration, except they don't know the Secret Woid, so it looks like they're a couple notches down.
The only incentive these guys have to take a case to its conclusion is to setup the next example in the public pillory. There's absolutely no way the legal minds (using "minds" loosely, here) leading this battle expect to receive anywhere near the amount they've been awarded. The way they see it, as long as people are settling out of court then the deterrent is doing its job. They'll continue to do so as long as a modicum of their much-eroded legal footing remains.
As another poster pointed out, these cases are essentially disposable, and will continue to be treated as such by the RIAA, as long as it help keep them from establishing precedent that doesn't swing in their favor.
Something tells me they stop caring about these cases the second they make it to court. Settlement money is where it's at, baby. After all, where's the fun in bullying the Little Guy once he refuses to lay down at take his lumps?
Honestly, if a magazine article does a better job at getting your kids hooked on drugs than you are at keeping them off, I'm placing the blame solely on YOU, the parent. Stop passing the buck.
As stated at the end of TFA, just buy what feels comfortable - the rest will, or should, come naturally. If you have to contort your fingers to fit the mouse/kbd, it's only natural your game will take a hit.
$200 Billion in tax breaks.

Because if he didn't make the front page he'd beat up the editors and take their lunch money.
I can't wait to see him cash out his golden parachute pants clause.
It would appear the resources allocated to resolve the issues with the Prius were pulled from NASA's pool of web devs.
No no no! Stick to your guns, man! Take your original idea, fuse it with OP, multiply it with a well-known meme, and whaddya have?
AIRBORNE, frickin' anti-aircraft sharks with laser beams!
I'm actually much more partial to that idea. The magnifying glass idea is just ridiculous.
You're no fun.
How about a higher altitude dirigible with a magnifying glass? Lasery enough?
"...how long until the people of Britain rise up to the tune of Yakity Sax?"
Fixed that for ya.
But how awesome would it be if he gave a speech about unicorns? That would be sweet! And you know he has a few tucked away some where.
...Cap'n Crunch responded by saying "tweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet", and subsequently found out that, yes, the fridge on the ISS is in fact running.
...so they went reaching for any tool available -- in this case, the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act...
:(
And such a shame, too! If they had reached another foot or so they could have grabbed the sledgehammer.
...but none of the five bears...
I dunno, five bears can be pretty scary. I'd be sure to stay away from that network.
Please, please, please tell me you're not talking about Joe Biden.
I believe it has something to do with multi-touch.
It's gotten great reviews, they say it's absolutely smashing.

Just like with ME, I'll contiue to use XP until a sutiable replacement comes about.
Whoa, you waited for a "suitable replacement" for Millennium Edition?
Head Asplode
hunt out every single fan at a concert and ask permission to use their vocal performance on a live album
Nah, they'll just sue the living hell out of you for singing a protected work without paying your dues.
Now bend over, the RIAA has their own idea of 'audience participation'.
Very true. The red phone on the Pope's desk actually links directly to Wayne Manor.
Yes, but he was looking in a funhouse mirror at the time. Go fig'.
Don't worry, assumption and speculation are still my main source of info. :)
I feel so at home here.
Exactly.
