    Iron Man was great? I saw it and I thought it was awful. Nothing Happened! And this coming from a guy who like movies in which nothing happens, but in Iron Man, nothing ACTUALLY happened. No characters were developed, no villain, no obstacle to overcome, no climax.

    Well I know that I don't ever see memory leak problems, and haven't since 2.5 or earlier. I regularly keep 3-10 tabs open for weeks at a time, and it rarely get to over 250MB memory usage. Though, I don't use NoScript, because it's worthless, I run at least 4 other add-ons.

    Hey, I *like* Vista, and the little I've used of 7 (roommate installed a beta build a few months ago) it looks great and I'd have no issues running it. Plus 7 fixes most of the issues that people had with vista at launch (uses same drivers as vista, alters and calms down the UAC), so I'm exited for it.

    Actually I have mine turned off because it bothers me. I automatically check the lower right corner when I mouse over a url on any other site, and the plain text otherwise gets in the way when I'm trying to read a post.

    I didn't say unconditional, did I? I don't care what conditions there are to it, they need to the money to keep the economy from dropping out completely.

    Ok, I know you're being facetious, but the Big 3 automakers really need it. I live in mid-Michigan, and I know to what extent the automakers' influence on the economy here is. If they go down, they're taking a large part of the state with them. Even if they don't go down, they've already cut large numbers of employees and cut production. This mostly due to the republicans in congress and Bush's lack of support and willingness to help pull them out. The extent of damages due to their delay has yet to be seen, but it affects literally millions of people.

    Two points:

    They probably don't even realize they're paying for it when they buy a computer.

    That's probably one reason that MS charges for it. It's so transparent people don't know to ask to not have it.

    Console makers sell consoles at a loss

    Not all consoles. The gamecube wasn't sold at a loss (at least not until near the end of it's life), and, AFAIK, neither is the Wii, as it uses a lot of the same hardware.

    None of those have significant marketshare. With toshiba shipping laptops with OpenSolaris, it helps bring open source/alternative os to consumer consciousness.

    I still don't understand what everyone's big beef with Java is. It is the language chosen to use to teach students programming at the University I attend, and obviously it has it's limitations, as does every other programming language, but I find no big problem with it. It is useful for things it's designed for.

    I'm not interested in learning E&M, and I would bet neither are a large number of the US populace. The names are reversed of what the individual words mean, and the average user isn't going to spend time to research mechanics of electrical energy to understand a news story that they happen upon.

    That's not OCD. Most people have quirks/habits like that, and you can't call it OCD. They may be a little obsessive about it, but most people definitely don't feel compulsions to do specific things. Likewise, I have my dvds arranged in a certain way, and if they get out of order, I put them back in the same order, but it's out of ease of use, not compulsions to do so; the world wouldn't end if I didn't arrange them the way I prefer, it's simply easier.

    He's not complaining about joules. No, he's complaining about the fact that Watts are energy over time, while watt-hours is the total energy used. The names are misleading and reversed.

    Why is it that so many people have such big issues with Java? It was the language taught at my University, and I, for one, like Java. It scales really well, from doing simple, small, learning programs, to larger, more complex projects. It has simple syntax and is well structured. Maybe it helps that we weren't taught about the Java API libraries, save I/O, until the middle of the second course, so most students, myself included, didn't learn to rely on them.

    The university I attend uses Java for its intro programming courses, but I don't see what the problem with that is. It uses simple syntax, is easily scaled down for simple projects (OO wasn't taught until the end of the first semester), and is simple for object oriented, which has a lot of advantages and application. Maybe it helps that there was no mention of the Java API libraries, except for I/O, until the middle of the second course, so noone learned to rely on them, but I, for one, happen to like Java.

    Easy things should be easy, hard things should be possible.

    What the hell are you talking about? VB is a horrible language that shouldn't be used. It's biggest problem is that things that should be easy aren't, and things that should be complex are nearly impossible. A scripting language such as Perl or Python is much better suited for teaching, and if you used Python, you would inherently teach good programming practice of using whitespace well and good variable names.

    I guess the publshers make too much profit with the new titles, that they can afford to forget about retro.

    Except that's exactly what this discussion over used game sales is about. They're claiming that they aren't making enough profit, and it's because of the used games. It's not that they can afford to forget about retro, but that it's actively hurting their capital.

    Also can't dirty be a subjective term? If I say that something is dirty, it doesn't make it defamatory.

    Except that the establishment in question is a restaurant, which are supposed to be sanitary. Stating a restaurant is even a little dirty is bad press for the restaurant, and could easily sway people from going to it.

    Like I said, I didn't originally point out the errors, and, except for cases of "would of" and "irregardless", I never do, I will always defend someone for doing so. If english isn't their native language, I'm actually more willing to point out errors, in a non-hostile way, of course, for I respect language correctness, and will always help anyone who is trying to learn.

    On the whole, english grammar doesn't change with time, but it does have a lot of nuances to represent its diverse origins and subtle meaning differences. Just because every rule has an exception doesn't mean you shouldn't at least try. If you forget a certain situation is an exception to a rule, I can forgive that with a simple informative correction, but plural vs. possessive? That's a different matter entirely.
