You also learn music theory and music appreciation.

And I learned logic and problem solving from playing games.

I'm just saying that essentially games are the _same_

Compared to learning a musical instrument or car repair? No way. Not even close.

You missed the entire point of his post. All hobbies teach skills, whether they be piano, car repair, games, or even insect collecting. And any skill learned from those hobbies may or may not be useful to the person is some way. Sure, music might open up a professional music career, or learning car maintenance a mechanic, but also games maybe an electronic engineer, software developer. Or maybe the person just enjoys the hobby for entertainment and becomes a doctor, a carpenter, or some other random profession and doesn't use the skills learned from any of those hobbies.

The point is any hobby opens up paths of interest, and gaming is no different. Whether they're used or not is a different matter.

Video games are meant to be played, yes, like children playing with their toys. I'm sorry if the analogy is unbearable for some adults who look back with contempt at their childhood's leisures but the aim of games is to provide fun, entertainment, so until this is redefined, whoever needs to have "deep" thinking trips would be best advise to discuss with academics or read books written by them on philosophy, metaphysics, or whatever rocks his vessel.

Your argument is fallacious. Books, movies, etc. are also meant to provide entertainment, but many also provide deep subject matter and tough issues for humanity. Why can't video games do the same thing?

The Gmail applet has not been improved. For me at least, I view its' change as a significant downgrade, for now I have to bring up a new tab into gmail proper if I want to get anything done. I haven't had time to seriously look at trying to fix my problems yet, but I have 2 big problems with it.

None of the links in gmail are active while on iGoogle, and each email takes up 2 lines in the box for subject and preview text that I don't need or want. If there are simple fixes for these problems, I may not mind too much, but I do not like it, given the small amount of exposure time I have had with it.

Side note - Maybe they changed iGoogle to Ajax to try to promote Chrome and it's faster javascript engine more?

Seriously, that may be a great idea. Maybe privatized schools, that could afford to pay teachers decent wages, could work out really well. Instead of paying taxes to pay for low quality public schools, people could keep they tax money and instead pay for a school where teachers will actually teach failing students.

Yes, having less processing power than the ps3 is an issue, as this generation of video games will show a significant increase in picture quality, poly count, and texture and color resolution that will require maximum processing power for best picture, and by the midpoint of this generation, the difference in quality between ps3 and xb360 should be quite noticeable.

I hope you don't have Wii.
The wii wasn't made to be the most technologically advanced system, or to have the best picture quality, or the most processing power, or any other technological marvel. Nintendo always has and always will win by the sheer strength of their games alone, and their great appeal to casual gamers.

Now, I consider myself a democrat, though in reality a libertarian, because in this political atmosphere you have to be either democrat or republican, but I believe that a splintering of even just one of the 2 sides could rip apart the political system from the middle, causing all manner of smaller parties competing, which, after some time, would stabilize back to 2-4 groups. Given the current political state of things around here, that can only be a good thing, with us focusing on dealing with problems here in the homeland instead of non-existent issues around the world.

I may have missed something big, but as an active member since I4, I only recall ED being an improvement to the game for most people, and seem to recall far less people leaving the game than cam back from canceled subscriptions because the game had been so ridiculously unbalanced before, and ED being the biggest and most effective balancer they've implemented into the game. I realize that subsequent tweaks and changes to the game were needed to fully balance out effects, (such as the I7 defense/damage resistance changes, and the I9 Invention system implementation) but ED has been by far the biggest, best, and most important change they've made to the game. Maybe I'm one of few on this, but I believe that the game wasn't designed for an attack to have a 300% damage boost without any accuracy boosts, recharge reductions, endurance reductions, etc., and even before ED, I never slotted a power with more than 3 of the same type of enhancement anyways, so to me, the extras along with ED, e.g. across the board endurance reductions, regen increases and recharge increases, were strictly a benefit, as it was no longer necessary to take and six-slot stamina.
