  1. OK? on Napster's Learning Curve · · Score: 1

Wow RIAA finally made a very stupid decision(big surpise) not supporting Napster, because of this I really think they put themselves in a really bad posistion. People would actually use napster as a subscription for downloading music, pay per song no way. Gnutella needs no subscription or payment per song, people are going to use it if the RIAA/Napster agreement comes about, granted some will still use it after that, but RIAA wil still regain a holding on the music industry and lower the amount of pirating drastically.

Aggreed, Java was made for platform-indepence, code it once and it works on all, not so much anymore. With the need for web-services in the future and a diverse economy of OS'es, we need something that works for all and will stay that way, a big reason for a shift to PHP.

  3. Re:Pardon me while I roll my eyes on PHP Succeeding Where Java Has Failed · · Score: 2, Interesting

Not a big fan of Java, slow, bulky, not user friendly. Best part about PHP is extensions, just write some C++ code(or C#/VB.NET on windows *frowns*) and make it a DLL, set it up and use it, not easily available as Java yet because no as many people use it yet. Honestly both preform well compared to ASP.NET and we should stop bashing each other, get a way for JSP and PHP to work together is what we need, simple page rendering stuff goes to the PHP engine, backend proccessing to Java, really, it might work.

What do you mean by 'tools' Visual Studio tools, or a good web-based script system. I'd rather have a good script system even if I have to type in code by hand vs. visually editing forms(Visual Studio 2005) and having a crappy language available for only one OS(ASP.NET)

Agreed, this could be VERY bad. No E-mail, VoIP, IRC, IM, etc... this could be bigger than a Stock Market crash or 9/11, without the Internet, pretty much the whole world will cease to function. This only decreses the realisim about the possibility of free internet in the future, we won't be paying for access anymore, nut protection from terrorists trying to segment the internet. Segmentation of the DNS system won't do too much harm, we can eventually reach a compromise on that, but if Teir 1's start segmenting the DNS system doesn't mean squat, fighting against each other or terrorist activity, it doesn't matter, this is really bad news and could cause serious issues, time to stop letting companies and governments fight over the Internet, we need to take this seriously and put it in our own hands.

Microsoft inviting 'white' hackers in to hack their products? Oh, NOW M$ is worried about security, about 5 years to late. But the concept of M$ letting outsiders hack thier products to improve secruity astonishes me, they aren't letting the real hackers work and FSCK up everyones PC because of security holes THAN releasing a patch, what will we do. I still think it's a little late in the game to worry about security M$, your reputation to all of your ex-users is, they hack, we fix it 2 months later; not we prevent the hacking as much as possible.

Didn't you hear, iPod Videos aren't supposed to be portable, just like the iPod nano. Now you actually are required to have a PC/Mac nearby to listen to it cause USB Charging is 'in' and no one wants another cable just to charge it. I mean, 80GB means you'll spnd forever at your PC downloading video and music to it right? More than enough time for a full chage to last another 12 hours before you need your PC AGAIN! So much for portability, and if Apple really busts this iPod accessory tax you can kiss future car chargers and the likes not endorsed or made by Apple goodbye. It's OSX all over again, vendor lock-in AHHHHH!!!!

Either way, IPv6 outdoes IPv4 in the fact that every device can have its own static IP address. Finally no more need for a Dynamic DNS service to access a VNC server on your home PC, and no need to "buy" a static IP from your ISP, people can start hosting more stuff from their home PC's, the idea of actually having a OS run off a LiveCD or USB device and saving your docuemnts via SFTP, SCP, etc.. to your home PC sounds great. I can't wait for IPv6, roll it out already.

I agree with you on this one. Sure we are paying M$ for thier products, and sure they have to pay the developers and make a profit off of it. However I DO think that M$ overprices all of thier products and services(ala MSDN and visual stuido anyone) and they seem to think of every possible way to prevent people from accessing or using the full functonality of products on non M$ platforms, like OWA 2003, it looks like shit in Firefox, but in IE it looks as close to Outlook 2003 as any webmail system can get. Also I find it irritating that they secure the code in so many of thier products fo which extensions. plugins, etc.. can be written for by giving out half ass documentation(such as the MAPI protocol) that it makes it difficult if not impossible for someone to write a extension for it. So this is how M$ is really stealing money, forcing you to use thier products.

Well at least Google isn't charging anything, or a small amount for all of their services, unlike Micro$oft and MSN. Personally I am waiting for google to become a ISP, a web host, and while we are at it a cell phone provider. I really like Google and they do so many cool things, mainly if you pay attention their goal is to help people find information on the web, with so much content on it these days, it is hard to find. I like the idea of a GoogleTV service, even if it costs 3.95 a month, and especially if doesn't need a cable/sattilite service subscription.

He checks around and it looks OK like it would be a good place to get his information. Now, I would bet that he would be smart enough to know that otters didn't discover America, but it may give a little peice of malinformation about some little thing inside of a block of REAL information.
