I think i have come up with a new game. I will call it 'out the shrill'. The object is to find what slashdot accounts are operated by payed microsoft employees...

To me it comes down to whatever microsoft supports.
Oh, right. None. It was a horrid failure that was not used by many people. Vista just might have gone down that path - and it just might end up a dead end product line.
If that is the case I would expect to see a Windows 2007 'PC' variant spring up soon.
So if you share a hacked copy ov windows xp that is infected with a virus, you could not only be charged with violating copyright but sued for damages caused by the virus?
What about email? Could you be sued for damages if you send an email that was infected by a virus?
What if your machine was a zob? Could you be sued for damages if your machine sent viruses without you knowing it?
>All anyone is talking about is the 360's hardware defects, the billion dollars Microsoft is having to spend repairing 360's, and the new disc scratching lawsuit.
No, that is just what the people on slashdot are talking about. Everyone else is a rabid M$ fanboi talking about how halo is still teh best gaem evr.
>Maybe I'm missing something really big, but I seriously don't see what makes Ubuntu so much better than Mandriva, or most other desktop oriented distros.
"Since the Mac in 1984 brought us the mouse and bit map displays and folders and icons, there really hasn't been much except for the evolution of that in the last 23 years."
Nice to see Apple continuing the fine corporate tradition ov copying other people's innovations and claiming them as their own.
I know how to make a PC work without letting crap infect the system : I install Linux.
The statement about 'very poor use of the computer' is a cop out. There is only one way to use a computer - and that is to run software on it. 99% of the problems of infections come from 'use of very poor software.' I can use Linux how ever the hell I want and not worry about stupid OS design and bad programming letting infectious software damage my system.
Now if we can just teach you retards once and for all that there is no need to be an apologist for bad software.
>It shouldn't be hard for a group of people with automatic weapons or explosives to wipe out a whole mess of zombies.
If they are classic zombies then yes. I'd almost rather have a katana. A sword doesn't run out ov ammo. you could just stand in a doorway and hack! At least until the blade got dull.
If they are neo-zombies then all bets are off. I'd hate to try to fend off insane AI controlled alien zombie cyborgs with a sword (unless it was a glowing blue sword).
better yet... you could use google. look at hydrogen, ardour, rosegarden, audacity, zyn, etc, etc.
Granted I am no expert, but for me they are a useable replacement for cakewalk, sound forge, reason, and cubase. Getting the Jack interface configured is a bit flaky, esp in KDE - but my distro had enough packages that getting everything installed was easy enough.
I run linux on COTS PC hardware. I think that qualifies me as a nerd. Now tell me why I should like a game development studio that started off making games for Mac only, but now makes games for microsoft only?
Bungie don't do shit for me. Never have, and unless they start releasing free open source code, never will. They can bite it for all I care.
Using SFTP or FISH or something on a php site that lives on a linux box is fine for new clients, but not the old clients with cold fusion sites on whindows servers that by nature get less and less secure the more software that is run on it.
The info I found on google seems to indicate that RDS uses crafted HTTP POSTS to communicate with the server, and that it might be possible to create an RDS KIOSlave as a wrapper to the HTTP KIOSlave and use HTTP as the transport, only using the RDS KIOSlave for generating and parsing the data for/from the server.
I would do it but I am in the 'Land of the Free'(TM) so what I want to do is most likely illegal.
I know about kioslaves. I use smb , ftp, & kaudio quite a bit. There is no rds kioslave to be found on google, only mentions that someone should make one. I would, but I'm not sure how... how legal it would be, that is.
As an x-windows/new linux user(pun intended), I find using the gimp instead ov photoshop suits my web development needs. Dreamweaver I can not replace as easily.
Dreamweaver contains the old cold fusion studio code. As far as I am aware there is no other client that can connect to cold fusions rds to transfer files. If I were to use another IDE or code by hand in a kedit instead ov dreamweaver developer mode, I would have to run ftp in addition to cold fusion server. More work, less security. not really an option. Instead, I get by w/ an old copy ov Dreamweaver MX and crossover wine.
The issue is screen burn: One tablet I own has visible damage where the on screen keyboard normally is.
So not only is it a troll, but a bad idea.
Historically, computer programming has been a female profession.
Try to find a male in vintage photo ov ENIAC programmers.
I have both plugged in to my pc - one trackball and one mouse. I prefer the trackball, but like to switch to reduce strain.

I choose the exact opposite.
funny thing is most entities that are rich enough, are rich enough to hire people to figure out how to not have to pay taxes.
tell me what version ov windows did ME replace?

Remind me to use the preview button next time.

Big money advertising.

"College-high school is not a class distinction it is an age distinction."
Unless you are talking about 'highest level of education completed', in what case it is a good indication as poor people don't go to College.

Good point. I am going to have to remember this argument next time I advocate the use ov kung fu + swords in exterminating zombie infestations.

Quake War > Halo 3
Hmmm. My 10 year old kid can reinstall slackware, but only if I help him set up the partitions.
He still has a bit o' trouble with the CLI.
I'm not sure that RDS is 'better'.

I'd rather they were told it was a 'microsoft virus'. I would hate to read the headlines and think I needed to rush home and patch x11r6.
