  1. Seen by whom? It is just a phone, one of many Android phones. Add up all the Android phones and it dwarfs the number of iPhones. What are they trying to say, that selling a million Pixel phones is somehow a failure? Yeesh, you can make statistics say anything...

I think comparing phone to phone is a good metric. We are not trying to compare ecosystems (iOS vs Android, Mac vs PC, etc). If you don't like the Pixel to iPhone comparison, how about Pixel to Galaxy 8? Or Pixel to G6? Selling 1 million units is a lot like Lumia numbers. Not good by any stretch. I wouldn't expect Google to keep this going much longer, kind of like how they cancel most of their hardware endeavors (think Motorola purchase, Nexus Q, etc)...

But if I am operating a data warehouse with fact tables housing hundreds of millions of rows, or trying to run largish reports on top of my OLTP system (say for state/fed reporting, or financial reporting), my "typical usage" is not many smaller queries.

The last two projects I have been on, turning on auto-parrallism in Oracle has made huge performance gains. Not just for reads, but also when enabled for DML, we saw a lot of our bulk inserts and merges ran significantly faster. And this was on SQL that didn't change at all, just our DBAs making a few parameter changes on the DB.

Yep. Because WoW is the best MMO ever, and nothing ever will ever surpass it, because there is just no creativity left in this space. In fact, every other MMO designer should just give up now.

I can think of quite a few things I would love to see: more freedom to do anything; theivery (from players, shops, houses...all with appropriate punishments if caught); ability to kill anyone (player or npc), at anytime, for any reason (with bounties, or appropriate punishments placed on your character for evil doing); housing marketplace (buying, selling, renting, expanding, furnishing); no level-caps (just insanely hard to attain higher levels ala Lineage 1)...thats just a couple off the top of my head.

I have played a small smattering of MMOs (Lineage, Lineage 2, WoW), and of the three Lineage 1 was my favorite. Some of the things you could do were cool, and really added to game play and fostering community.

    From the article:
AMD's 4x4 system features two coherent HyperTransport (cHT) AM2 sockets, each of which can gluelessly support a dual-core Athlon CPU and a pool of DDR2. So a 4x4 system gives you two cores and one DDR2 bank per socket.

Sounds an awful lot like what Intel is doing with Woodcrest (and its platform, of which I can't recall the name). 2 sockets, each with a DIB, and can hold a dual core part. So how is 4x4 new? Hell, Apple is doing it currently with their G5

Actually, the first gen blu-ray players wont be able to play back the quad layer blu-ray disks currently in development. So if you buy a first gen Sony player, you can't play every blu-ray disk.

Sony allows you to play every blu-ray disk to every blu-ray device with every blu-player. It is an unfortunate consequence there are not so many players.

But, Apple allows you to play every iTunes track with every iTunes player (any of the 1G-5G iPods, the Moto ROKR and upcoming iTunes phones, or on my Mac or PC). So hw is it any different? Further, comparing to other companies in similar boats, Apple offers more variety than buying a PS3 (you can only play PS3 games on a PS3), or the Xbox360 (you can only play Xbox 360 games on an Xbox360). So I am not seeing your point...

YOU can listen to it wherever you want, whenever you want.

Also, I can listen to the music I purchase on my iPod, on my computer, on my cellphone (ROKR), in my Car (either via burnt CD, or direct iPod to AUX input), on my home stereo (again, same way as via Car). Hell i can even play it on another music player (convert first to MP3, then load that MP3 on to said player). Also, there isn't someone standing over my with a timer (like teh subscrption music based services) which will delete my tracks if my subscrption runs out. Lineage 1 I believe had no level cap. I remember one player (he was Korean) was like level 75 or so (with the next highest around 65), and was still going. Leveling at this point was insane. It would take multiple months of game play to advanced a single level. His goal was to solo one of the in game dragons. That game is still being developed, and has had a ton of new content added since I last played (4 years ago). I like that idea. If I want to keep grinding, and working it out, let me enhance my character (if it is only a few str or int point increase each level past 60 for WoW). Lineage 1 had a lot of cool things you could do that added to the game content. For example n-zels and ndais used to increase weapon/armor stats...and the fun of attempting to overzel/overdai an item, praying it wouldn't blow :) Plus you could sell a +9 b-kat for a shit load, and it wasn't soulbound to your character. If Lineage 2 would have been based more closely to Lineage 1, I would have kept playing it. But Lineage 2 strayed way to far from what Lineage 1 was.
