actually I wasn't thinking collectathon as much as side-bosses that aren't needed to finish the game but are there for hardcore players to add difficulty... ruby/emerald weapon in FFVII Ozma in 9 etc. FF does this a lot but other games have also added challenge to games this way. I think its a much better idea than having more Battletoads level difficulty games...damn flying bike things hitting walls and crap. or how about ghosts and goblins...1-2 health at the most and then you die.

I used to play many other games very frequently but since getting WoW I raid about 4 hours a night or so after work which leaves little to no time for any other games. I bought Civ 4 when it released and that is the only one over the past year. Usually I get about a game a month on average and have also used gamefly. You don't have to be a hardcore WoW player necessarily for it to take most of your leisure time up. Either you play fewer other games or you keep playing them and do fewer alternative leisure activities you would've normally had been doing. I suppose I'll just wait till the new zelda and then the revolution to break my habit.

It was down about 16% in after hours trading and then recovered and finished the day at 8% and it is already up 1% today as I write this. People who think the company is overvalued needs to evaluate things a bit more...the EPS and P/E ratio is excellent and it is seeing 80%+ revenue growth over just a year ago. Apple is seeing about the same revenue growth and they too have had their stock price double but just because their price is at $70 instead of $400 people don't say anything. Too bad stock price is all relative and means nothing at all anymore...BRK.A and BRK.B anyone? On that note AMD's stock price has doubled to $40 in the past 2 months...better start selling, it must be overvalued.

Also, the only fighting games I saw were old school crap, SF2turbo and then one Tekken 4 machine which is at least several years old now. No soul cal, no MVC, no MK... I'm assuming the reason for both of these is that in both instances you can literally sit there for hours on just one token, and both are pretty constant gaming so that means you're also going to be drinking far less when playing them so neither make any money. I'd go out on a limb and say DDR is the same way. You can't drink a beer and play ddr at the same time and I see people sitting on those machines for a long ass time before they lose. It's just wasted revenue whereas instead they can put in some 1996 Nascar game that lasts 5 minutes for $2 a play almost.

I don't think these would really be directed to someone in MSFT security. The decisions to do both of these things seem to be driven by marketing and maintaining market share, both of which can contradict decisions to improve security. If this guy had his way, he probably would decouple IE in vista and he wouldn't bother with DRM since that's just another thing he has to worry about securing, but the decision came from other areas instead.

Since most security issues start with the user, why has the convenience of being able to never type in a password trumped the benefits that come with strong passwords for all users? Add to this the possibility that if most users begin using these passwords with your OS, they will carry them over to their passport accounts and other sites requiring passwords.

I tried to bring this down to just one combined question in a run-on sentence but it was just more organized in this format.

Just on a side note to this. Most fansubbers still subscribe to the rule that once an anime is licensed, they drop the series. This obviously isn't the rule for everything. However, taking GitS:SAC as an example, the first 2-3 eps were released before a stateside licensor was announced. It was subbed by about a half a dozen different groups. An announcement was then made and only 1 continued subbing it and they were forced underground. There are several other examples of this, Naruto, Bleach, Samurai 7, etc. The fansubbing community as a community predominantly plays by the rules and even the sites that don't, there are 10s of thousands of downloads being made of each episode of a popular series like naruto and bleach, yet the subbers have yet to see any cease and desist orders to my knowledge. The only company who is known for their fierce protection of their property is Funimation. They must know it's going on, but probably don't think they are missing out on their bottom line by allowing people to get subbed, mediocre quality avi files vs. HD quality DVDs with extras, subs, dubs, and several languages. And for a link of legal torrent distribution fansubs...http://www.animesuki.com/ They discontinue any subs that aren't legal so you don't have to worry as much about what you're getting is legal or not.

didn't the saturn beat its competitors to market with a fair enough launch and get romped. Didn't the dreamcast too? (at least in the US and EU) Granted, this is a nice launch of fair enough games, I'd just like to see some more NEW games to show off the NEW hardware, but really calling the hardware new is even somewhat of a stretch since it is near identical to its predecessors with the exception of upgraded graphics. The controller, multiplayer, and extra features such as HD, mem cards, expansion slots, and networking are all near identical to previous hardware iterations. In addition to that they don't make it very widely known that the core system won't even be able to play old XBOX games since it has no HD and that not even all games are supported on the new system. NES was a huge leap forward in controls and graphics, SNES created a more ergonomic controller, PSOne/N64 were the first systems to incorporate 3D graphics and revamp controllers another time introducing analog d-pads. PS2/xbox gen didn't bring in much new and hopefully the Revolution will do well so publishers will be rewarded for creative, new games and systems.

just on a side note, katamari was never supposed to have a sequel. The creator never wanted a sequel, but the company that owned the rights to it insisted on making a sequel because they knew they could make it into a cash cow. They even said they would do it without the creator if need be and so he jumped on because he didn't want anyone else touching it. Game publishers simply suck now. Obviously it is a viable business model to just create rehashes of already popular games over and over, but in the long run it just can't be healthy for the industry to never have fresh content. Sims 2 profited from the creativity of the original Sims which also sold a lot of copies in its own right, but if EA didn't take the risk on the original they would've never created the rest of what has probably become the most profitable franchise in gaming next to Mario. I'm just sick of hearing quotes from people like Probst saying they're going to release about 30 games each fiscal quarter and they're looking to make 1 fresh, new game out of those 30. AWESOME! Oh and although FFXII is the twelfth (sp?) iteration of the series, not a single one had reused characters (aside from Cid, a support character) or battle systems. Each game shared the name to use the popularity of the series to make more money, but each game was pretty much a completely new game. I'm excluding the jpop crap that was FFX2. I just hope Kameo is a polished game and does very well so other gaming companies will follow in suit and take more risks.

Yet, people will still buy the roster updates in droves and reinforce the gaming industry's (mainly EA's) lust for easy cash from recycled crap. Though I definitely expect to see half of these games on ebay for $30 right after launch since they're forcing you to buy the games with the systems. New system and theres just 1-2 new and creative titles made for launch and the sequels aren't even adding anything new to the game like Mario 64 did for the n64 when it created the first 3d platformer, sequel yes, but at least something new.

they already published some of their games and as publisher were entitled to some input because they really didn't agree with an aspect of the game, they would just drop it unless the dev would fix it, but as it seems take two is as opposite of EA as you can get so perhaps this will just increase the amount of capital Sid Meier will have to work with in his future games. Off-topic slightly: And to one of the other people posting, take two won't move the civ franchise to console simply because it will suck. It doesn't matter how big a name or how great a game it is, a controller just can't compare to a mouse/keyboard for a strategy game of any type so I would just doubt I'd see any of the civ series ported over until at least revolution comes out with a controller that might be a bit more intuitive with those games.
