As for power consumption, its no biggie. I have a 500w PSU in there that takes care of everything. My video card sitting there idle probably takes up more power than the three hard drives. As for redundancy, yes, I would like to go Raid5, but I would need to get at least one more HD and that cost $$$. If I were to lose a drive, I woulnd't be losing anything major. I do regular backups of my important data and if its not backup'd, then its all good. Its not like this is a business computer or tracks my vast finances...if I had them that is. I have known many people that have had their Raid0 config for several years before any issues and to me, that is a good amount of time since I upgrade every two years max.

My boot time is under 20 seconds easy after the CMOS finishes loading.

It has the ATI x600 graphics chip in it, but I cannot go to ATI and download the drivers for it whether its the Catalyst drivers or the Mobility drivers. I can only get the drivers from HPs website. Thats really annoying because HP never updates the video drivers...ever. They are the same version since the day I bought the laptop. That is just one example of custom hardware.

This is a mouse, this is a keyboard, this is the Start Button/Apple Logo, this is the power button, etc, etc, etc. I have seen far too many college graduates that have never sent an e-mail let alone used the internet. I know it sounds weird, but its true. I used to work at Kinkos a few years ago and I would get teachers that needed to submit their application and resume via a website (www.edjoin.org). It requires that Letters of Recommendation be scanned and uploaded via their website and a resume in either Word format or as a PDF. They didn't even know how to log onto the computers let alone use a scanner. Since my boss wouldn't let me assist them on the "Customer use computers" I would slip out there, give them my card and make $50 each job on the side. I made so much money there doing that its insane.

I would call computer literacy going out and buying the Computers for Dummies book (be it Windows, Apple or whatever) and being able to use and explain the knowledge in that book after reading it without referring to the book every time. Is this literacy for everyone, no, but its the bare basics that everyone should have.

Auctually, I have pirated a great many things in my past. I quit doing that because I am too lazy to go out and find a working copy of anything anymore. But people keep saying "I have the right to copy My Music to my computer....". It is not your music. The music belongs to the publishing house and the artist that produced it. What you own is the piece of plastic called a CD and the pretty case. The music there on that CD is licensed to you only for listening purposes. Don't get me wrong. My entire CD collection (be it a small collection) has all been MP3'd for use in my car (my car has an MP3 player/CD Player). I hate switching CDs. But the people that make the music and publish have a say in how Their Music will be used.

Reverse engineering of software is illegal, but I bought the software. If I want to go in and alter the way it works in a minor way, why can't I? I own a home and want to use my backyard as a hazardous waste disposal site, but I can't can I.

The idea of people owning the music they purchase is wrong. WE DO NOT OWN THE MUSIC. We are basically leasing the music to listen to. Just as you would lease a car, lease a house, lease an apartment. They are not yours and you cannot do what you want to them. I lease an apartment right now and I painted our new baby's room bright green. I know that when I move out that a) I will have to repaint the room white or b) pay a fine to have the apartment owners repaint the room white for me.

Ownership is 9/10's of the law as the old saying goes. The RIAA (though as evil as they are) owns the music you are listening to, not you.

Our results, however, aren't final, since we had 1 GB DDR2 memory installed but 2 GB DDR on socket 939 platform. We will redo all the benchmarks as soon as we get two 1 GB DDR2 memory modules and publish here the results.

Why didn't they just test with 1GB of ram accross the board? That would have make it seem fairer than 2GB and 1GB systems.

My two cents is that wait for the AM2 socket to progress further and don't jump on the band wagon just because its there. I am a computer enthusiast and love to have the best hardware in my system. The problem is that with new stuff coming out all the time, there is no point to upgrade just yet. My AMD64 3200+ runs great, does everything I need it to do on my system and more. I would love an AMD64 X2 4000, but the funds are low.
