I agree with you, unfortunately, you will probably get flamed to hell because you said that Windows too can be secure. Its sad, so many people call us Windows fanboys, when in fact, all the people doing the flaming are just Linux fanboys themselves and don't want to acknowledge they too can be wrong from time to time. I have only had one virus in my life of computers. Just one. I run E-Trust EZ-Antivirus from Computer Associates http://www.ca.com/. Its great, cheap and updates every time you turn your computer on. And there are always daily updates. I run a router with the firewall enabled. It works great and I even have several ports open for specific software titles I use. If you know where to and not to go, you will have a good computing experience. I can't remember the last time I had an issue with my desktop and it runs 24/7 running a Team Speak server and soon to be a FTP repository for me and a few select others to use.
A beowolf cluster is a group of seperate computers all linked together (usually by a high speed network) that shares the processing of a single task. It can be used to render 3D animation, process large chunks of data or pretty much anything. Essentially, you can buy 10 modern computers, hook them up as a beowolf cluster and get a pretty powerful "supercomputer" out of them. Mind you, I use supercomputer loosely. But the performance is very good.
One great example is the SETI@Home project. They sent out chunks of data to peoples computers that downloaded the client, those home computers processed the data and sent the results back. They got way more data processed then if they used one supercomputer.
From the comments I read, most everyone is pointing to the security point or the hardware failure point. Those are very very good points, but what about the fact that they are TAKING AMERICAN JOBS AND GIVING THEM TO OTHER COUNTRIES!!!
This really interests me since I have a 7 week old baby girl. A couple my wife and I know has an 11 month old baby and they said about a few weeks ago, that everything just suddenly clicked. He started to say words and actually knows the meaning of them, started to walk and many other things in about a weeks time. Its like the light switch was finally switched on. With my baby who is much much younger, my wife and I saw a big change about 2 weeks ago. She started to react to situations the same (happy, sad, scared, etc). She has gotten more coordinated in doing certain things. Its really amazing how much they learn by instinct and by just watching the world around them.
As for speech, I believe the learning curve for babies to talk depends on how they are spoken to. If you GooGoo and GaaGaa at them all day in gibberish baby talk, they aren't going to learn how to speak very easily. But if you talk to them as you would talk to a young child, they are more apt to speak early themselves.
No one really cares in the real world if it has a supported OSS driver. Linux is not a gaming system. No, I am not a linux hater/Windows fanboy, but its just like Mac, not a gaming OS.
John Carmack is a Genius in the gaming industry. Quake 3 was by far the best game of its time. Unreal Tournament was fun, but it just wasn't Quake 3. I hope he continues to be innovative and keep the gaming industry steaming forward, and maybe create a few more games thats never been done before.
This is true. I have played the PvP in Guild Wars. I do like hte Battlegrounds in WoW also. They give me the same feeling of an adrenaline rush, just not all the time. What I do prefer is the World PvP aspect. Going into contested territory and doing PvP is way different than in a battleground where you know for a fact there are opposing faction members there. Its just different as I am sure other people know who play different MMO games.
I love guild wars and recommend it to anyone wanting to enter the MMORPG realm. Though its not a true MMORPG, it helps to start them in the learning process. As soon as I tried WoW, I was hooked. I really want to try Factions but know that I will just quit and go back to WoW. Besides, it took long enough to get to Stone Guard, I want to keep going =P.
The other thing about WoW is the sense of danger. You are out in a world where anyone from the other faction can 'gank' you. I love that. In Guild Wars, that is not present. You are alone in the world, or with your small group. I like the excitment of stalking my prey (I have a 60 Troll Rogue) and attacking.
This is true. I would love to find a normal PS2 though. I have had a lot of friends that told me their slimline overheaded and quit working. I also need to buy a new LCD for my computer first though. Its more important to me than a PS2. Oh well.
I am in a union where I work. Our department just fought for a raise accross the board and we won. We got the largest raise in the district's history. 10% salary increase adn a 5% cost of living increase retroactive back to July 2005. It was quite a nice retro check and we now make the average for tech jobs. The only downside to being in this union is that some of the techs we have here are old school...real old school. They started back in the 486 days in DOS and haven't learned anything new. We can't fire them because they are protected by the union. That to me is one of the few down sides.
Dont' forget you need a pretty good set of RAM to do this. RAM that will most likely cost you over double what the processor is worth. A motheboard that can handle those speeds isn't cheap either. Plus, you need a power supply that is reliant and can deliver a steady stream of power. Cooling is another must for this. Expect to pay at least $60 for a cooling unit if not more and go with watercooling. You will end up looking at around $500 just for the few main components. For the enthusiast, thats great; for everyone else, its not worth it.
The school district where I work used to have its entire network wide open. Anyone could access everything, e-mail, grades, pernament record. You name it, they had it. They just has to browse to it through the Network Neighborhood icon. One student saw this and told the assistant principal several times and he was ignored. He finally printed off a bunch of student grades and gave them to the assistant principal showing him it was a real risk and that something should be done. He was a legitimate good kid trying to help. Instead, he was Expelled from the district and was given probation (he was a minor). After that, the district REALLY tightened up its security. I feel that kid shouldn't have had anything done other than a huge thank you.
So, the new Windows Mobile 5 that just came out is already going to be replaced. I know its early, but come on, give us some time to enjoy having the newest OS for our mobile devices.
So, what is a legitimate government? The US's government? How about England? Russia? Which one? I feel that americans were given an inch and they took a mile. And after that mile, they took another one. Not being happy with that, they took another and then another. Now, every person in the country can bad mouth our governement and call it freedom of speech. Guess what, other countries consider our country a mockery. One where the government has no control.
That is why everyone wants to come here. Take for instant one of the most recent issues. American immigration laws. Immigrants from all around the country get out and start protesting that everyone here illegally should be given citizenship. A large number in that crowd were illegal immigrants. If I was a law enforcement official, I would have gated everyone in and as they left, checked everyone of their green cards. If they weren't here legally, arrest them and deport them. America has nothing agaist immigration, its the illegal part. But all the politians don't want to say anything about it because its election time soon.
On the other hand, a country like Holland put down explicit rules for entering their country. Immigrants have to proficiently speak the language, take certain tests to get in as well as a bunch of other things. Fur the US, a woman can sneak past the border, come here for vacation and get pregnant and guess what, she's automatically a citizen. Its ridiculous.
The Government makes laws and no one listens. China can do whatever they hell they want to. Censorship is not illegal and if you say it is, then why are certain words censored on TV or no nudity allowed on TV? Its ok in other countries, why not here?
I wouldn't flame you for not liking the game. But to me, it gives me the sense of Sim City, The Sims, Command and Conquer and a bunch of other genres in one. I love the fact that you can create a "bug" any way you want it and in real time, the game figures out how it moves, fights, reacts and so on. To me, its the kind of game you can sit down for 10 minutes and play and enjoy it without feeling the compulsion to keep going into the wee hours of the morning. I am looking forward to the later part of the game where you fight other tribes and worlds. It just looks fun and expansive, almost limitless.
Who the hell takes two days to re-install a Windows box? It has taken me at most 5 hours to do. If it takes 2 days to re-install a windows box, then that hick won't be able to figure out how to install Linux let alone install it.
"Derrr...whats a partition. Should that one be so small?"
Most people have a store bought machine with their trusty restore CDs. That takes a whopping 30 minutes. Windows users may need to swap CDs to install software, but at least we can buy our software. Linux users need to use their trusty apt-get function over and over and over again to get what they want. Oh, don't forget about compiling your kernel a million times. Derrr, whats a kernel...is it like the corn? And don't try to tell me about all the packages on the CD when you install linux. Those freaking packages are named the most moronic things ever. Try using a name that people understand or at least give it a small explanation of what it dows. And why do they need to put a G or a K in front of it just because it runs of Gnome or KDE. Its confusing as hell sometimes.
And anyone that knows enough about windows to be proficient knows about Norton Ghost and how to use it. Guess what, I can take my 30 gigs of data, all fresh and pretty and ghost it to an external hard drive and restore it, hands free in about an hour. Reboot and viola, all done.
I agree with you, unfortunately, you will probably get flamed to hell because you said that Windows too can be secure. Why, it will take the same amount of time or less to hack the PS3. There is no unhackable hardware, just hardware that is hard to hack.

Oh please tell me you can poop on peoples heads as you fly by on my flying mount??? That would be the ultimate PWN towards the opposing race.
Looks like the new slashdot sites have been slashdotted. Only one loads.
Here Here. I plan on buying a PS2 when it hits sub $100. And the first game I play will be God of War.

Or, download the free public movie trailers to those movies, burn them and then send them.
Duh, Sytrophome and wires.
Can I get some play time of World of Warcraft in there?
Click Click Click Squeel Squeel Shreik Shreik Click Squeel Click Click. Thats dolphin for "Turn off that damn noisy speaker!".

Get over it people, its China and they will do as they please. Whats what part of being a soverign country is; being able to make their own laws.
