The Total Access plan you mention includes returning unlimited online rented movies for store rented movies. Netflix has nothing of the sort so callng it a competitor is flat out wrong. A quick look on the blockbuster website shows the 3 out at a time plan is 19.99 and that includes 5 store rentals a month.

Somewhere down the line, I see a per-play fee replacing the per-track fee. Pretty soon we'll be tracked and billed at the end of the month for our music usage. Not to be paranoid about it, of course, but every time I think I've seen the most ridiculous behavior by the recording industry they do something a little more invasive and restrictive.

This wouldn't affect me much. I already own all the good old music I want. And new music mostly sucks and I most likely wouldn't be buying or renting much of it anyway. Bring it on and watch the music industry die even quicker.

  16. Re:Why bother? on Microsoft Flip-flopping on Virtualization License · · Score: 1

Yes, but most games don't actually run well under virtualization. Or Wine for that matter. There are however some AWESOME Linux native games: Zsnes (every super nintendo game) Mupen (every Nintendo 64 game) Urban Terror (Linux Native!) Other than those all I really miss is Grand theft Auto, which doesn't run well in virtualization anyway, and Civilization 2, which also doesn't run great virtualized, and further, is pretty damned old these days, though still more playable than civ 3 or 4.

Wow I haven't heard anyone speak of Urban Terror in years. I loved that game. Was in a clan and everything. Oh just to be on topic, M$ suxors.

  18. Cable companies next? on Vonage Admits They Have No Workaround · · Score: 1

I wonder what happens when and if Verizon goes after the cable companies. Here in NYC Time Warner and Cablevision push their "Triple Play" packages a great deal. That is TV, Internet, and VOIP phone service for those who haven't seen this. With Verizon rolling out FIOS, I imagine the cable companies can not be happy about the phone company invading their tv domain, just as the tv company invaded Verizon's phone domain. Will these companies throw down and fight it out in court or will Verizon make nice and license the technology for a song and let the big media comglomerates continue as before.

If Verizon gives cheap licensing to others is Vonage not entitled to the same deal? Lots of questions still to be answered I believe.

Doesn't this just mean that if you can't get an Adobe product to work on Vista you need to go to Adobe as you would under any other OS? Why should MS need to help you make an Adobe product work on their OS, Adobe should be the ones making it work. I use Adobe as my example so the Open Source fans don't get in an uproar about MS keeping the competition down (not that they aren't, but I don't feel they are here).
