Yes but that only works if you're able to completely control the information source. I'm say is that China can not hope to completely control the internet forever. People always find ways to work around barriers once they know the barrier is there. With people traveling to and from China in increasing numbers the numbers of curious people will grow exponentially. That is why China will over throw it's government someday.

I think MS is trying to one up Apple by coming out with their iPhone like Coffe Table. The only problem is, that true to form, it's bigger, more expensive, and in my opinion less than needed, than anything that an average consumer would want to adopt. I also don't see it coming down in price lower than $3,000 anytime in the next 10 years.

So in summary MS's answer to the iPhone is to build something bigger, more expensive and less useful. I know, I know, that's what they alwasy do but it's still funny to me.

Well then Linux should be designed for windows compatibility. The only way Linux can take over is by providing a seamless transition to the point where it doesn't matter what application you need, your data will be accessible from both operating systems. Then, and only then Linux can excel. $$$ for windows, or $0 for linux. They both do the same thing give or take, they are compatible, the apps are cross platform, and it just comes down to money.

Even if global warming is just fear mongering there are still good things that can come from that. For the first time companies are getting enough pressure and consumer interest to build fuel efficient cars and explore new fuel sources. In the last few years there have been more advances in solar, wind energy then there have in a long time. As an added bonus if we find a renewable energy we can finally stop relying on the East for oil. Something that has been fueling wars for the last 20 years. We could finally find more economic independence. Which would be great. If Global Warming is the catalyst for this change than I welcome it with open arms.

    *pulls out soapbox*

As a former employee I can say that you are 100% correct about their management. Most org charts are flat tree style but IBM is more like a matrix(no, not a bad movie pun). The literally have a one to one middle management to Technical worker ratio. That just kills the techs productivity because the managers all want their status reports and 4 pages of asset info every time you touch a PC. It takes you fifth of your week to fill out all of that paperwork. When the last contract I worked on was out sourced to another company I jumped ship to the new company. IBM had no problem with that because they were laying off tons of people off anyways. After the transition we handled the same amount of service calls with 4 people and still have extra time to do proactive maintenance, which is something I never every had time to do with IBM because of the BS paperwork. I could go on and on about the borderline illegal directions that we got from my second line manager but that's a story for another day. IBM has been laying off people by the thousands for years. I saw them layoff 150 and loose ten major contracts in my 5 years there. I would not be suprised if Global services is sold off in the next 10 years.
