  5. "history" may be misleading on US Voter Records From 19 States Is Being Sold on a Hacking Forum, Threat Intelligence Firms Say (zdnet.com) · · Score: 4, Interesting

Keep in mind, that the "voting history" in the summary is easy to sensationalize. In most cases it only means you were issued a ballot, and possibly for mail-in ballots that you returned it. No state has a history of what actual voting selections were made.

  6. Re:AI really can't replace everything. on Amazon Scraps Secret AI Recruiting Tool That Showed Bias Against Women (reuters.com) · · Score: 1

I can't wait: "thanks to the Reviver's Rplate Pro, registration can be paid via the internet". Maybe, maybe if they would have said I could pay for it with "an app" I'd be sold. But really, almost all tag renewals can already be paid "via the internet", and they just mail you your replacement tag/decals. If CA can't do this today, start?

  13. gMail is close to good on Slashdot Asks: Which Is Your Favorite Email Client? · · Score: 1

I'm already pushing it anyway, can touch without messing the screen and don't have to move my hand again since it is where my finger will naturally rest when holding the phone. No need to be an imitator when you are already best!

  15. Still waiting for ORDER BY on Google Launches Gmail Add-ons and Brings a Range of Business Tools To the Inbox (betanews.com) · · Score: 1

Really Google - addons? I've been waiting since the first web keyword introduction for a simple to implement 'ORDER BY' command. I've embraced the "search don't file" mailbox management style, but lack of ORDER BY output is nuts.

Almost all of the "secure door" readers are actually very dumb, and will let basically any card with any kind of account number on the mag stripe open the door. I've opened them with gift cards and rewards cards. The doors are not normally networked to any sort of identification system. They are usually tied to a motion sensor and will not not open if someone is still in the enclosure, and will record the stripe data that is presented to them.

Calling line ID spoofing is very common in corporate systems. Some carrier require to you identify you call to them, but still allow you pass a spoofed ID on to the called party. There are some very legitimate reasons for this such as: Changing your call back number to a toll-free number, and maintaining the original calling number on forwarded calls.
