Actually, you're right. I lived in Lincoln for a while earlier this year, and yes, it IS the largest city in the state when there's a Husker gamer. By contrast, I now live in rural Texas. In a county where the largest "city" is about 3300 people...
A fresh Windows install means a lot of your hardware doesn't work and you have to hunt for drivers from third party websites. This is particularly fun if it is your wireless network card that isn't working. For the most part, hardware "just works" in Linux these days.
You seem to be comparing XP to Linux here. For Win7, chances are very good that your hardware will just work out of the box. If it doesn't, it'll use Windows Update to automatically find and download drivers, so the only thing that needs to be working out of the box is networking - and I've yet to see a Win7 install where that wasn't the case.
Unless its new(er) hardware. My Radeon HD 6750 doesn't work OOB on Win7 (does on Linux), my Asus WiFi card, sme thing.. Hell, even my old SB Audigy 2 Value doesnt work OOB on Win7, and yet it does on Linux... (tested using LinuxMint 12 and 13.. So... NEXT!
No, I don't feel guilty, and I have nothing to hide, however, where I go and who I visit throughout the day is **MY** business. Not the local cops. I like having what little shreds of privacy I have left in my own PERSONAL, PRIVATE life.
It is people like YOU who think that "if you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear" that are causing all of MY rights to privacy to be eroded and taken away.
Which is exactly why they DON'T do it that way. They don't want us having a chance to fight back against trumped up charges and bogus evidence plants that have become such a routine part of this American "Justice System"... It is so pathetic. I hate it, I really do.
That is exactly what I was going to suggest. Being that it's a Windows based program, it works natively, and has a nice little icon in the systray area, encouraging people to actually USE the programs on there. Not to mention, because, as you stated, it runs from the flash drive, everything the save (emails, Firefox profiles, etc.) is secure in case of system failure or a general Windows fuckup.
And yet still be able to afford THREE **NEW** iPhones.. Yeah, I feel *NO* pity for the 1%ers who pay 50% of the taxes when they have 90% of the wealth, Meanwhile, people like myself and my family live hand-to-mouth, and hope we have enough money to pay the rent and car insurance next month.
And to all who note that the Dems didn't repeal it and the Obama signed the extension.. This I know, however, it was Dubya that *started* it.. That was my point..
It's not so much an "us and them" when it comes to the parties, it seems more and more that it's an "us and them" between the government and the people.
As I understand it, the 4th Amendment is generally extended to cover contents of communications, meaning a warrant is supposed to be required for such contents.
The problem is that the Patriot Act (thanks again, Dubya.) allows the DoJ and FBI or any other law enforcement agency to pretty much do whatever they want if they claim you are a "terrorist" or "aiding terrorist actions"..
What's even more shocking is that there's people still using Yahoo.
You meant IE and not yahoo, right?
I resent your statement that Evil can be "chaotic"... Now Kaotic, otoh....
I'm drafting a C&D letter now to send to all those companies who send out C&D's....

That said, you'd think people would have heard about this and avoid THAT STATE like the plague.
Fixed that for you ;) (And I live in Texas. Have for a decade now...)
Actually, I think they also call it "business as usual"....
Or was.. Now it's in the middle of a bidding war heh
Or, better still, something more similar to what they had at the TV station in Hackers ;)

All of a sudden? I shall assume you were being sarcastic.. Especially since these taxes would be wrung from us 99%'ers..

"Computer"...
And I thought *I* was jaded and cynical.. Wow...

If you're using a credit card that "privacy" thing has already flown the coop...
What is this "privacy" thing you speak of? I seem to recall it being mentioned, once, long, long ago.. But I thought that it was just a myth...
1) Keep an icon in the system tray indicating that "You Are Protected" 2) Stay out of your way and use very few system resources.
I dunno.... seems like there's something missing from this specification.
maybe it's this... 3) ??? 4) Profit
