Wouldn't it be good if all the coal, oil, gas or what ever was converted into energy? We could reduce the carbon dioxide output to zero and also get get magnitues more enery from the source. C^2 is 89 875 517 873 681 764 m/s. You mean to say mass is insanely abundant (energy is too but we have to capture it first). For your idea we would also need an insanely large amount of anti-matter.

When the grandparent said smaller he meant in terms of diameter/radius. The mass they pick up from a companion star causes them to shrink in diameter, a small amount though until they hit the Chandrasehkar limit and explode. From Wikipedia:
"For some white dwarfs the accreted material, which is usually hydrogen rich, will light up in a nuclear explosion and leave the core of the star intact. This phenomenon can be repeated as long as accretion material is available."
So obviously they don't just dissapear. The core must remain to regather what ever material is left.

Actually what people mean by "zero" gravity when they are in orbit is that they are in free fall. They are falling at the same rate as their spacecraft so the craft exerts no upwards force to make them feel weight. They still have a weight as the definition of weight is mass * acceleration due to gravity. If they were orbiting at an altitude of one meter they would still be experiencing zero-g as again they are just falling at the same rate as their craft. You are correct in saying that they would have to be travelling at great speeds to keep in orbit though.
