I live in Europe and I don't want the US to have ANY kind of access to bank transactions I am making INSIDE of Europe. It is none of their business! They have NO RIGHT to look at any of this data, member nations of Europe are supposed to be sovereign countries. They have police and intelligence that is perfectly capable of doing the job (probably much better than any US agency). Also people who's data has been accessed have to be informed.
And then you wonder why many Europeans don't like the US? Why should Europeans trust US agencies? Would the US let Europeans look at all transactions INSIDE of the US?
It is becoming increasingly dangerous to be a scientist working for a government.
Just remember the British scientist Dr David Kelly who "committed suicide" prior to the war in Iraq.
I am very surprised to see that so many slashdotters are supporting the fact that every person should be allowed to wear guns. I always thought that they were sort of intellectual but I was mistaken.
The logic that more guns bring more safety is completely insane. It is very simple: In (most of) Europe citizens are not allowed to bear arms and very few people get shot. That's it. Or if you need another illustration: How often do children get shot at school in Europe? More guns in circulation just makes more guns available to total idiots and criminals.
I read some long time ago that they were working really hard on the drawing primitives to improve graphics output for instance in impress. Does someone know if this will still be implemented in OOo3? I tested the beta but at the moment it is still not there:-(
This really keeps me from using Impress for presentations at work.
Epigenetics is an important factor that should not be neglegted!
Depending on the life-style of each twin (and other factors) twins could be identical genetically but very different epigenetically. That means that even though they have the same set of genes they can be completely differently regulated, thus resulting in different susceptibility to diseases.
(For those interested: One important epigenetic mark is the methylation of DNA at Cytosines thus resulting in the shut-off of genes.)
Well 98% similarity would be really low, this is actually the genetic distance between humans and chimps! If you were right then ones twin brother could be a chimp:-)
Yes Keynote is an excellent presentation tool. If there was a Linux version I would immediately buy it!
I must say that otherwise I like using OOo (I found it to be more compatible to Powerpoint than different versions of Powerpoint to eachother). Linux now has cairo to make nice drawings, why don't they use it in Impress? If I new how to program I would do it myself.
Please this is so wrong, who needs yet another mail client?
How about first finish cleaning up the OOo code?
Then make Impress make slides look nice! Graphics output is so ugly I have to be ashamed when I use Impress, drawings in Powerpoint look so much nicer. Why cant they make good anti-aliasing of curves? What is really stupid is that when I export my slides as pdf they look really nice! Oh boy... but no, first they want to add a mail software into an already really slow office suite, THANK YOU!
Well actually you might be quite right, at least this is what some people believe. It is thought that viruses are THE major factor in evolution of genomes. For instance it is possible that actually viruses "invented" DNA to have a genome resistant to RNAses produced by their hosts (that was in the RNA-world, DNA is much more stable than RNA). Also viruses enhance the mutation rate of genomes and allow in some cases transfer of DNA from one spieces to another.
Also a big part of the junk DNA in genomes possibly originates from viruses (transposons and retro-transposons which possibliy are remnants of viruses that once infected the host).

I guess there is a very simple solution to this laser problem:
Just mount a mirror in front of the satellite and send the laser right back where it came from. That would be fun for the people on the ground actually sending out the laser:-)
I think now the time has come to put the complete PC into one chip. With AMD buying ATI this could be a move into taht direction, since they could combine the GPU and the CPU into one chip. I predict that in future it will be possible to have the CPU, GPU, RAM and the harddisk (replaced by something like "RAM harddisk") into just one chip. That will be fantastic! No need for a huge gray box under your desk. Just plug the chip into your monitor and go for it:-)
Really this terrorism stuff is totally overrated. It is more propable that you win at the lotery then that you
are a victim of a terrorist attack. I mean come on, it is time to put all of this into a proper relation.
So many people die from car accidents, cigarettes, getting out of bed in the morining (I once heard that 2 person die every day in GB when getting out of bed).
Just imagine all the great stuff one could have done with the money the US spent for this "war":
- Fusion would become reality in the next 5 years! (so no need for pertol anymore and therefore no dependence on
"terrorist supporting countries" anymore)
- Food for everyone
- Drugs for everyone
Doing such cool things would really shut up some terrorist mouth, since they would completely loose support.
These are definately the most popular pc games ever! Right after the Notepad the best program ever written by Microsoft.
No honestly, I have never been an a company where people were not playing that game on their PCs:) This game is by default installed on each Windows machine.
You said "In other words around $3000 per inhabitant, or far less than most of them are paying in taxes in a single year."
Actually, maybe you won't believe it, but I know that an average inhabitant in Austria pays around 1000 of taxes per month, so then the few millions they want to spend are really not problem. But it does not mean that I support such an idea. Better help the people that really need it.

You always have to think that nothing comes for free! Obviously google will want to use all the informations you store there. Do you really believe you can trust google and store your corporate informations on their servers. Google will start to know everything: Your search habits, your email contacts (via gmail) and now your favourite recipies. It's great for them, they can now make the perfect customer profiling out of all the data you store on their servers! As people like to say: Trust is good, control is better
What if just at the moment you want to click on the "I Agree" button your cat jumps onto the mouse and clicks it?
Basically then you did not agree with the EULA but your cat did. I guess in the US they will have to start to sue cats:-) For me, as long as I don't sign something it is not legally viable.
This is totally wrong and you only believe this due to the very efficient propaganda in the U.S. France and Germany heavily protested because they did NOT BELIEVE ONE WORD of what Colin Powel said at the U.N. The U.N. protested about the claims made by Dick that there were any nuclear weapons in Iraq. There was a really good book written by a former inspector of the U.N. who worked in Iraq, published around 2000, that it was absolutely impossible for Iraq to still have ANY WMDs. But we know that reading is not one of George W's strong attributes. Greetings, ecbpro
I see, you have never been in Switzerland. Then: Europe is not a country AND: Switzerland is not part of Europe

The Japanese were using this techniques on US captives in WWII and were convicted for this by the US. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/11/02/AR2007110201170.html
Mitochondria are inherited from the mother exclusively.
That means that even siblings that are not twins share identical mitochondrial DNA sequence.

I just autoclave everything before I eat it :-)
That just pretty much kills anything that lives (including the spinach).
I wonder if when Anousheh Ansari comes back from space she will start up her own Linux version :-) (see Ubuntu)

Thanks man, I just downloaded the Evil Genius demo to give it a go. Have a nice day!

I wish there were more of these funny games. Do you have any suggestions?
