For over a year now, i've been using audacity and kandy to make my own ringtones and transfer them via a $11 USB cable to my Motorola V180. Voila, free ring tones from my massive collection of music.
Not only that, but i can generally make much better sounding snippets, and pick the part of the song that i like (or the whole thing).
This works great for wallpapers made with gimp/xv/imagemagick as well.

i've been trying to get at www.sonymusic.com/royalties/ for some time now, but its been 404 all day.
Opening it in links2 it has a short message about the computer virus circulation becuase of XCP. I can't read any further though, because its all in java and horribly messed up frames.
Anyone else manage to reach this area of the site?
Both of these brands produce players far superior (IMHO) than any ipod or creative player, and both manufacturers support Open Source Ideals, and work on Operating Systems other than Microsoft windows.
4) Enjoy your new music, knowing you're not being controlled by DRM.
Sorry no pertinent links, but there are ways to create a zombie in real life.
Certain african tribes possess a poisonous powder, that when blown into an enemy's face will cause convulsions, and then a deep coma. When the victim awakens, all of his/her high level mental facilities are gone, and is only able to accomplish teh simplest commands: kill, walk, etc.
All of this was depicted in a grand series of b-rated movies, but this stuff does have scientific foundations. This information has deep roots in African lore, as well as some of the darker Christian texts. While none of this can be proven conclusivly, the point is - its possible:)
I just got done playing with the lg3d live cd (based on popcorn slax).
Hardware wise its ineffecient, but nowhere near to the point of Microsoft Windows(tm).
However, after 10 minutes of playing with it, i got to be pretty fast at running 5 apps at once (Its a live cd, normally i power task dozens of applications/windows).
You can use an app even after it has been shunted to the side of the screen, by mousing over it. (It gives it a sort of half focus) Middle clicking a window immediatly puts it aside, and moving the mouse into to clean space makes all windows transparent. Doing this allowed me to read irc, while having firefox up directly over it.
The only problem i really saw with it, is that it was a bit non-intuituve to use, and in some points did not repsond/spawn windows/refocus windows the way i thought it would. Its still beta, but i can honestly say i look forward to this type of technology becoming mainstream.
Why would i want a "uniform" look?
One of my big loves for Linux, is that i can fully customize whatever i like, when i like.
I use Gnome, becuase it functions intuitively, and has built in programs (like cd-burning) that function much better than windows.
I use flux, not only for its speed, but because i can make anything transparent and move windows around at my leisure. Not to mention the looks the people running XP give me:-p
So my question is: Is it not *just* fine the way it is? Leave my desktop alone, thanks - i've had enough GUI control from XP/OSX.
I wonder if they were thinking of online forums and such. Unless they want to buy a piece of the Great Firewall of China, thats a worthless piece of legislation. Even if they did find a way to block forums based in other countries, how will they control IRC/IM?
This is ridiculous, politicians need to quit palying with the pretty colored fire.
For many of my co-workers here in the bible belt, hapiness is letting their worries be "god's" worries. IF thats so for most religious people, i would cynically say that hapiness is letting someone else have repsonsibilty. The article seems to concretrate heavily on the religous "values".
I look it a different way:
When i die, i want to fly, sliding on my side at 100 MPH into the pearly gates, wearing a huge smile smile, yelling "WOW! What a ride!".
I hate for my life to be dull and unispiring - that for me is happiness.
I wonder if they did a case study on Adrenaline junkies, priests, and people like Linus Torvalds. Only then could i trust the science of happiness:(
i agree. Each time i have tried to install gentoo, i have run into massive issues with broken ebuilds during the stage 1 or stage 2 install. Each time, i got fed up complaining about the "quality control" of the install ebuilds and went back to http://www.slackware.com/ or http://www.crux.nu/. Crux has a BSD ports system that works better than portage, IMHO, and its a lot easier to deal with. Each to his own of course, but there are always other options:)
I've been thinking for ages that the RIAA should be sued for Electronic Theft/Illegal access. I hope this pans out, and the RIAA's practice of tracking users. I strongly suspect that they use trojans/viruses as a means of "obtaining" IP addresses, will be brought into the legal spotlight. Sorry, no links but if someone finds some good info, let me know:)
Furtehrmore, the RIAA has repeatedly attempted to force ISP's to drop PAID user connections to 0 upload - which sounds a lot like M$'s monopoly practices:( http://www.charter.com/help/RIAA.aspx )
to the Tech Party? If there was such a thing, they could help keep members of our government from trying idiotic things such as this.
Furthermore, why should the govenment, ANY government have a say in global culture, online or off? Such things seem inherently in the power of the people.
I guess what i'm trying to say is this:
Information wants to be free; it should be the masses that give it its destiny, not a threatened gov't. It scares me to even think of a government like china having a say in the way things are run globally. *shudder*
Does anyone else really despise this game? The music is annoying, the game play is puke inspiring, and the concept is as boring as knitting socks with your grandparents.
This game made me want to stick my member into a blender:(

Its simple:
m it=GO&Range=1&bop=and&description=Jetaudio&InnerCa ta=23 [JetAudio]
1.)Buy from sites like www.audiolunchbox.com, or www.allofmp3.com.
2) If thats not possible, make use of DVD Jon's pymusic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PyMusique
3) Buy an audio player, that plays all of the good formats such as ogg, flac or musepack:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Sub
http://www.neurosaudio.com/

The emails sent from the 14 year old, can be found here: http://croqaudile.com/?article_id=10299 There is also a great wikipedia article ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Thompson_(attorn ey) ) that relates his history, and well, exploits.
