>Widescreen is also great for developers, artist...
Not really. I would like to see more lines of code on my screen. Also more vertical space allows to read newspapers/blogs much more easily as they have long content.
In fact I prefer 15.0" or 15.1" non widescreen laptops.
>Does this matter?
Absolutely. In fact I like non-widescreen 15.0 or 15.1" laptops. More vertical screen = more contents can be read while visiting newspapers or blogs. Of course more code too:)
Agree but not as much as would think. Hardly anyone upgrades their PC in 2 years and common folks do not even upgrade their OS in 2 years except for may be default s/w installations.
>and we've known it for a long time...
Not really. If that was the case, what was the necessity of Ubuntu? Ubuntu has definitely made Linux easier to install and use which was definitely not the case until like 2 yrs ago.
Ubuntu (7.10) still has its own shortcomings in configuring things like Bluetooth or Wifi which I hope will not not be there in 8.04 release.
Also, how about 15" standard screens? I have been trying to buy one and all I get is either 15.4" or 15.1" widescreens or 14.1" standard screens.
I prefer 15" (or 15.1") standard screens so that I can see more code/document at any instant. Don't know why nobody wants to make them?
The same thing can be said to any OS w.r.t a 13 yr old. Even installing/using Ubuntu would be a hassle...The only reason why they find XP is fine is because the 13 yr old has been using it may be for few years. Someone installed it for her when she was 7 or 8 and hence didn't feel any pain.
Not really....I have tried to install Ubuntu 7.01 on my Toshiba laptop and its not really a useful time spent. The installation went super smooth but my wireless n/w does not work and even my external bluetooth mouse does not work. I tried to install bluetooth drivers but even after couple of hours, I could not get the front and back button to work. Also I had to muck around on command line a bit which majority or common-man users would not like to do.
Ubuntu is a good start but definitely has a long way to go before getting a size able chunk of users to adopt it. I am not sure of Mac but Win XP is surely not bad if you keep the anti-virus and the firewall (even XP default firewall is ok) upto date.
Its not as easy. I am not a computer illiterate and even then getting my bluetooth mouse and wireless (802.11g) to work on Ubuntu 7.04 has been a real pain. I just gave up after few days.
Already Thunderbird is not that great a product, especially when compared to Firefox. I don't know whats gonna happen now - Hope it will not become just another open source project with just handful of folks using it:(
I can see MS' point here. Things have just gotten worse for legal immigrants in last 1 or 2 years in US. Every step w.r.t visa issue will take months or years with no light at end of tunnel. For e.g., folks who are working currently can go out of status (for few weeks) since visa extension or renewal will take months. I am sure MS would use this site to keep its workers affected that way.
I am a legal immigrant (H1 visa holder) and things have gotten horrible for tax paying, law abiding legal immigrants recently.

>1. start with lame attempt at reverse psychology disclaimer.
No, its not - its just truth.
>2.Insert singular bad experience with Linux.
Again, no. I have tried Ubuntu recently and even after fighting for a day, I couldn't get my bluetooth mouse to work with all 5 buttons.
>3. Omit all relevant detail so you won't be embarassed when others point out the real source of the problems you were complaining.
This is not a Linux forum to get a technical help...
4. Recycle old complaints about Linux. Choose from the following:
c) user interface is ugly
You are right on this - Ubuntu's user interface is pretty good.
Ubuntu has definitely come a really long way in making Linux easier for all of us common folks - but still needs to catch up with windows in term of ease of use and driver availabilty.
Opera is not famous..but its fairly slow when compared to Fireox.
I like being anonymous like you..So c'mon lets join this new network 'NoFaceChapter'...;) so that we can keep in touch
Firefox 3 Already Rules the Roost
And it already hung up on me few times within first hr of usage:(
LOL....

Eee PC's 9 inch version.

I would mod the submission as a useless article.
Its not Microsfot...So we should not complain here...
Sorry typo, I meant 7.04. Wish it were a magic build and worked seamlessly for basic things at least.

>1. North Pole webcam >Operating temperature: From a chilly minus 40 degrees F to a balmy 120 degrees F.
How can it get to 120F in North Pole?
I am not a MS hater, but this is really crap if its true. MS better be smart and mature in fighting competition.
If they really ban "linux*" password, then how about trying BallmerWorksForTorvalds or something like that.
>...you have to make the systems idiot-proof for users who don't care a whit about what OS they're using...
More so, they should avoid being Linux snobs and stop using phrases such as "idiot proof" if they are really interested in growing.
Now I know why temperature been 100+ since last one week...

On the other side - Theres atleast one thing both Linus Torvalds and MS agree on. They both disagree to GPLv3!!

Nice writeup dude. Although I am not full supporter of Shivasena, I do agree their good work and their necessity against Islamic politicians in India.
