While I also have no desire to own an iPhone (or a top of the line phone for that matter), I still view the iPhone as an excellent push by Apple (who even Linux fans have to admit control a large portion of the media industry) for a more mobile/PC device. Let's be realistic... while the iPhone is technologically in style and whatnot, you have to admit it is a pretty nifty device and is useful. Furthermore, with the amount of influence Apple has on its customers (half the friggin population owning iPods... even my mother asked me if I heard about the iPhone), pushing a device like this will make even the technologically unsavy wired to our ever growing technological bubble.

  12. From Engineering to Business on Computer Science or Info Tech? · · Score: 1

I started out as a Computer Engineer. I lost interest due to the lack of people based jobs. I'm a people person and I want a job out of a cubicle. I changed my major to Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State. Its basically similar to IT with a mix of business thrown in. I haven't graduated yet and I'm currently working at an internship as Project Controls assistant, but I have been assisting the IT department as well. I picked up a business minor and am contemplating Grad school as well (for business). I'm planning on working for a consulting firm. It's funny how things change so much in just a few years... I'm sure whatever you choose may change once or twice before you settle down.

  13. Re:all my mod points... on WoW Database Site Sells For $1 Million · · Score: 1

While I'm not sure since I am a bit unfamiliar to WoW since I sold my account to IGE (ironic, eh?), but apparently character selling/buying and gold farming is a very lucrative business. Yes, I know that selling characters is a contraversial legal issue, but I had to. Making a profit from playing a video game is very appealing. For those who buy characters for a large sum of money... I don't quite understand it. You are essentially paying someone to play a game that you pay for. Seems like a lot of paying and not a lot playing.

Lastly, IGE actually legally threatened me a year after the transaction saying I stole the account back (which I didn't). At this point, I was singing a different tune. I threw legal facts in their face saying that I had nothing to do with it and would like to see them even attempt to sue me when their whole business rests upon the trafficking of Blizzard's intellectual property. Hypocrite? Possibly. American? Indubitably.

Competing with free can be done... but I haven't heard a viable solution that makes me realize the industry still has potential. Honestly, I could care less. If music was knocked back into the stone age and no name bands struggled to get any publicity at all... I think that would be the greatest thing that ever happened since Robert Johnson.

I play World of Warcraft every summer and quit when I return back to college. Honestly, I have no problem quitting for months at a time but I have to admit, there is something in the game that I'm addicted to that when I read stuff like this I get very nostalgic. Even if I were to install the game and just look at the menu screen I would have the urge to play again. The game itself gets very boring end game but there is something I miss about it. Fortunately for me I realized this and sold my characters to make sure I didn't start playing again.
