Unfortunately you're right. I have a sportsbike (Ninja), and whenever someone sees it, they immediately think of the morons doing wheelies, riding around in shorts and a tshirt. Most of those people don't stay on the road for more than a couple years, as they end up getting harvested for organs after their first wreck. It amazes me that when I'm riding down the highway, some young kid will pull up beside me and start reeving his engine wanting to race me. Of course, that's when I just turn onto a road with a ton of twisties and zip through that knowing the squids haven't even learned how to roll through a curve at regular speeds while keeping the shiny side up. Most of the time, it's the parents to blame for buying their immature, arrogant, hot shot, soon to be a future donor, kid a motorcycle without making them go through a MSF training course first.

I don't have any slow response times, and never have had a single lockup like I did with SUSE (most lockups occured when either running Firefox or listening to MP3's with amaroK). Granted, that may have just been KDE causing the problems, and it's more of a KDE vs Gnome issue with my laptop. But, my laptop is an older laptop (P3 600 with 256MB RAM), but it is extremely quick. Also, you might want to avoid "popular opinion" regarding the war, and stop listening to Hollywood. Do a bit of reading, it will help you out. I live in Mississippi, and Katrina did alot more damage in this state than it did in the cess pool known as New Orleans. I have a family member killed by Katrina. I see the devestation done by Katrina every single day. If you want to place "blame" on Katrina, then that lies 100% with the city of New Orleans, and the state of Louisiana. The FACT is that the city didn't have any plain in place. Their big plan? Put them in the SuperDome. Have you ever been in there? It really is a dump, and was contracted out to the lowest builder. The state didn't invest any money into the city to prepare for such things to take place. It is NOT the federal government's responsibility to take care of a bunch of idiots that chose to live in a place below sea level. That's like saying if I wanted to build a house on top of an active volcano, that it is the federal government's responsibility to make sure my house doesn't get damaged, and to give me handouts for such stupidity. Louisiana has the most corrupted government among all of the states in the US. There is no denying that. Do you know that in NOLA, there are only two hospitals that actually have working ER's? Guess what the city is doing right now? Spending money throwing a parade. If you really believe it is the federal governments responsibility to take care of you, then I absolutely pity you. If you want a socialist system, there's other nations that you'd be thrilled to live in. However, I don't want nor need the federal government to hold my hand throughout my life. There's nothing complicated about creating the database, nor anything complicated about interfacing it. There's plenty of functionality in it that serve small business very well. Not to mention, small businesses won't have to shell out extra cash for things such as Crystal Reports. Also, if it's how you're interfacing the DB that you particular don't like, you can write a few simple ASP pages (or whatever you'd like) to work with the database, and you can do pretty much anything you want. With such a large scale of PC's, you would NOT want to try to make a massive overhaul of the infrastructure. Also, you would need to consider if even migrating to a different OS would be beneficial. The first step, however, would be to take one of the smaller departments and identify that department's computing needs. What do they use their computers for? What hardware do they rely on? Is there a third party application that is heavily relied on? Then, after identifying those items, see if there are alternatives in another OS. If you find alternatives in Linux, setup a "test" workstation in that department. Pick out one user, and train that use on how to perform his/her tasks on that workstation. Do not force someone to do this that isn't willing, or that is hesitant about it. Find someone that is genuinly interested in giving something different a try. Then, ask that use to spend a few hours each day doing their work on that test workstation. Have them document any problems that they run into. This testing phase should last for at least a month. Stay close and in touch with the user. If they get frustrated because they can't perform a specific task, you need to be able to provide an immediate solution. The biggest plus you can ever possibly have with migrating to another platform is for the users to be on your side. That's who management is really going to pay attention to. If the user can be as productive or more productive with a solution that costs substaintially less in licensing, etc.., then management is really going to pay serious attention. Where I work (much smaller company with only 300 desktops), we rely very heavily on a third party application that simply cannot be run on Linux. However, I have brought Linux into the picture by setting up an education lab running K12LTSP. I was able to demonstrate to management productivity and cost savings by bringing back to life older Win 98 PC's that were collecting dust and ready to get thrown out, as well as addressing the needs of the school on our campus. I saved the company several thousands of dollars by going this route. When management wanted to start monitoring and restricting Internet activity when I first arrived, I put together a proposal of commercial applications vs open source applications. The result is a Linux proxy (running Mandrake) with squid and squidGuard. Reports of activity are automatically generated each midnight, and management is capable of viewing these reports through their webbrowser. Again, I was able to save the company several thousands of dollars. While replacing desktops simply isn't an option for us, I have made Linux a very viable solution to address needs that we had here, while saving the company money, and making me look like a hero in the process. :o)

It wouldn't change anything at all. I think your basic lack of knowledge of Christianity is really showing. Please specify the many religious claims that a distant planet that could contain life would refute. Evolution does not contradict Creationism. Evolution just says how life came to be, but it doesn't say why it came to be. It does not, however, disprove the message conveyed in Genesis that God created the earth and the life on it. The theory of evolution is also unable to explain why things took the course as they did, as it just explains scientifically how it happened, but not the question of why. Nor does evolution explain where and how any of this first started. Now, if you want to ask if evolution contradicts the literal translation in Genesis of "how" it happened, then the answer is yes. However, the principal and overall "theme" of Genesis in the creation of the world cannot be disproved, and to be fair, it cannot be proven either. The only thing that can be disproved is the literal translation - which comes from written text from a time period when minds were much simpliar, and things such as single celled organisms were simply too complex in nation to explain. In saying all of this, and the fact that only a literal translation of only book in a collection of many books can be conflicted, it is also possible that God was the force behind evolution.
