  1. Bad decision? Is it? on For New Zealanders, No More Phones As Sat-Nav Devices · · Score: 3, Interesting

At first glance I thought this was a terrible decision. Clearly, the government just rushed a response to whether it would be illegal to use cell phones as navigational devices. But actually, it might make sense. The article says you can still use your phone to make phone calls, just nothing else. It gave an example of someone rear-ending another car while using a cell phone in a cradle as a navigational device. A cell phone usually would have a much smaller screen than a regular GPS device, since it is designed as a cell phone and not as a GPS system. This might lead to longer times spent glancing at the screen and higher chances of accidents happening.

Hey you replied to me! I was in a bit of a bad mood so I probably came off quite biting. I still don't think I'm giving them too much credit; I think it's hilarious what they're doing. I will have to say I did like Hellboy and never watched the Hulk. Back on topic: while some things, like their whole "Need for Speed" franchise, may fit "default trash" for you, they have good games as well. I hope you liked at least one of either the Sims, Madden, or Command and Conquer. But hey, there ARE really quality mainstream movies (in my opinion), and everybody has access to independent films (some of which end up going almost mainstream). I don't think it's so bad...

I'm confused; when did Microsoft claim the suite was going to be free to corporate users? From the PC Pro article,

Microsoft says the online applications will be free to consumers and small businesses, via Windows Live. Larger businesses can choose to host their own versions of the web applications via their SharePoint server or buy them as a hosted service from Microsoft.

I found this article from the previous Slashdot summary about Office 2010.

In fact, after reading slashdot for a few years seeing any comments that are anti-microsoft just gets to be sickening and old. Just like any comment that has the word "ftp" in it when discussing browser neutrality automatically gets modded +5 insightful, any comment saying anything bad about microsoft or its products gets modded +5 insightful, even when it has nothing to do with the topic.
I have not seen any sort of "dearth of people extolling products competing with Microsoft." I still see the same old posts whining about Microsoft at every opportunity and automatically getting modded up to infinity.

The article doesn't even make sense. Asus said the Android isn't ready yet (the same thing Nvidia said), then apologized that a different booth had put up one of their PC's with Android. Even if the game ran perfectly smoothly and impressively on the iPhone, you're looking at probably no more than 2-3 hours of playtime for a game (especially if it's 3d). Considering that you're also supposed to be using this device for music, phone calls, and possibly videos, I'd feel squeamish using it to play games for anything other than on a 10 minute bus ride. Compare that to a DS, which will give you more than 15 hours pretty easily.
