If you're not willing to learn, then do the rest of the world a favor and throw your computer out the nearest window.

When I first learnt to drive, I took the time to learn how things worked. When my engine siezed, I removed it, stripped it down, rebuilt and refitted it. If you don't know how to do this, then maybe it's time you learned. If you are not willing to learn, then do the rest of the world a favour and roll your car off the nearest cliff.

Email and internet access have become necessities (some countries have even declared internet access to be a human right) you can't expect everyone to be have that level of knowledge. Personal computers need to be more appliance-like, and the user shouldn't be required to know what's inside or how it works to use it.

Apple appear to be making progress in this regard with the iphone OS, but they keep getting slammed for not being open, and restricting users. Unfortunately this is the trade-off.

The iPhone & iPad are products that compete in markets (smartphones and tablets), Priuses compete in the hybrid car market, and google.com competes in the search market.

Look at the market, not the product. If you want flash, you are free to buy a smartphone or tablet that has flash, from several competing companies, and apple will not stop you.

They want you to walk through the whole store because that way you are likely to make additional/unplanned purchases. Having a shopping list sorted by store aisle would defeat their nefarious marketing plans.

I thought of using user-generated data to create the store maps, (i.e scan the barcode when you grab an item off the shelf) but then realised that GPS is generally not accurate enough when used inside the store.

Zimbabwe is host to some of Africa's best ariable land and yet there are thousands who are starving. If the people hadn't let all the farms fall into disrepair after the revolution they would have so much food they could be exporting to other regions.

There is enough farmland available to grow enough food for all the world. Better prices for biofuel stock might drive up prices short term, but will lead to greater investment and supply long term.

The people did not let the farms fall into disrepair!

The "revolution" was in 1980, and up until around 2000, 70% of the countries land was owned by 4000 people in a country of 12-13 million. The "people" never had access to land. However, Zimbabwe was still able to feed it;s population and export a great deal of food. It was also the 3rd largest tobacco producer in the world.

The food shortages were caused by President Mugabe and the ruling party ZANU PF, who allowed a violent programme of "land redistribution". The claimed to be taking the farms away from the 4000 minority and giving land to the "people" however in reality they kept the land to themselves, and as they are politicians and not farmers, hunger ensued.

N.B. The 4000 people who owned 70% of the land happened to be white in a country where the majority of people are black. The uneven land distribution is/was caused by the policies implemented by the previous colonial regime.

If you give people the opportunity to earn a reasonable living by working in a factory, instead of having to rely on a small piece of dry infertile land, they will have more of a disposable income, which they will spend on their own health.

Having live in Africa for more than 2 decades, I can honestly tell you that most people know, understand and desire the benefits of small families, education and good healthcare. Unfortunately, many are caught in a poverty trap.

People have several children as an insurance policy. Not only are they ensuring that their genes are passed on, but they want/need the children as a workforce for their unproductive land, and also in the hope that there will be someone to look after them when they are old and frail. There is also the hope that one or more of the children will beat all odds, and make a success of themselves by becoming a doctor or teacher etc. as having one of those in the family will drastically improve the lives of the whole family. This has the effect of keeping the majority of people below the poverty line.

Additionally, while it might sound silly, if either husband and wife is away at work all day, AND they have some form of entertainment for the evenings, they will generally have fewer children, as having an actual disposable income makes one think about what to spend it on, and that often influences the decisions one makes about how many children to have.
