  1. diy "phone" on Time For a Hobbyist Smartphone? · · Score: 1

I've thought about making a custom "phone" in the past with GSM modules, but haven't had the time. Telit sells modules that have a builtin Python interpreter. Might make a fun hobby project. Sparkfun used to carry these modules... http://www.telit.com/en/products.php?p_ac=show&p=7/

I'm really loving this attitude that PhDs are not any different from high school drop outs. This is perhaps true for menial tasks. It says something about the posters who tell these stories. Try assigning that high school dropout to do something non-trivial and highly conceptual, and you are mostly likely completely screwed.

I saw Henry Kissinger speak in Dallas last week. Kissinger was asked about Nixon's legacy, and he replied that history will see Nixon in a positive light. Kissinger maintains that while Nixon did some stupid things, he will be remembered for his diplomacy wins.

If people in the future have a simplistic view of the past, Nixon's administration could very well be remembered as a success.

National Geographic is conducting the Geno 2.0 study that is tracking human migration patterns based on genetic markers. If you want to participate, you can buy a kit and send in a cheek swab.

The test results include how much Neanderthal DNA you have. Many people of European ancestry have about 2% Neanderthal DNA. So, yes, there was interbreeding, and Neanderthals have not exactly died out.
