I'm sure a book called C Puzzlers would sell at least twice as well as this.

While I can enjoy the NY times quite comfortably from my Tablet PC, I think I'm in the minority. A lot of people still will want their paper with their coffee and bagel, and just can't stand reading *anything* on the computer. My friend will print off even a 1 page article, instead of just reading it on the desktop. I think libraries should be a bit more concerned. I think they're going to drop off face of the earth this century!
Did it make you cringe when you first heard one of your favorite songs used in a car commercial?? Damn you Modest Mouse, damn you... To me, the final cut for music should be when they put it out on CD.. , with alterations allowed when I pay to see the performer live... Not some 45 second edit of the song, playing the backdrop for a LandRover commercial.
- Apache was just as easy to use in MS (although much less documented support)
- It just has a nicer, cohesive, look and feel
- I just can't fall in love with GIMP, not matter how much I try
- Burning cd's is much too difficult to get working
- Plug and play support
- Font support
but hey I intend to give Linux another try in a few months when I have some time..
By the looks of the torrent sites, it seems that Civ 4 could be the most popular strategy game ever!
I can't wait to get this game, although slotting in time for it after all of my other daily chores will of course be the immense challenge. I thought their www.civanon.org commercials were borderline offensive, considering the amount of hardship that certain games have caused recently. Deaths from MMORPG overload is a real issue affecting real people.
What does this mean exactly? When I want to edit a Word document I have to be online?
"Microsoft's hosting push is expected to target the gamut of users--including small companies with five to 10 PCs and no dedicated IT staff--who may want to do things like share calendar items but not worry about how that is accomplished."
Couldn't an undergrad CS student develop an app that could do this for said small IT company.
Give me the portability of a Tablet PC like the Toshiba Tecra anyday.. These
large display systems are akin to SUVs in their power consumption, are they not?
Encryption, clusters, nano.. Why don't they encode the tiny clusters to DivX while they're at it and embed it in the silences in movies...:)
This sounds like a very cool conference, are they going to distribute a conference program in pdf format, or is Phreaknic too underground for that, and require you to get it off torrent ??
Tim Hortons is basically our juggernaut, and they still encourage the purchase of disposable cups which end up littering our highways, rather then giving a discount for bringing your own cup.
I'd like to see how the raises compare in North America versus countries where a lot of the outsourcing jobs are popping up...
But I guess 10% increase in those countries would still be a steal for the labour they are receiving in return.
Well it looks like C# will be alive and well for some time to come. This article definitely had the feel of Jesse Liberty's Programming C# OReilly book.

MSH has a number of unique features that make it easy for users to leverage.NET technology at the command line. Type casting is an easy way to transform a simple core type into a.NET instance or another core type. To cast an instance into another type, simply place the name of the desired type in brackets right in front of the instance. You can change a string into a number with an int cast:
msh> [int]"5" + 5
10
"
is basically the section from the book on boxing and unboxing. Anyway, as a C# developer, it's great to see the language isn't dying..
Answer: there are several obvious advantages LEDs have over traditional incandescent light bulbs, they are as follows:
Low power consumption - energy saving,
Long lasting,
Cold lighting,
Ruggedness,
Small size and weight,
Fast switch times,
Simple to use.
This is from the FAQ, but it doesn't list any disadvantages.. anyone care to share?
I've been to boring meetings.. But this sounds it would have been quite a boring meeting:) Discussing fine print of GPL and what it does/does not allow you to do.. Must have been a lawyer field day.
Most of the articles I've find on sfgate.com to be a little overly dramatic so I'm skeptical. First of all I wonder how much information was exposed. For instance it might have been only the students (or student numbers) and grades. Worst case it was their addresses and social insurance numbers. Doesn't this type of hacking occur everyday, and is it only newsworthy because a reporter was able to hack in?
Is it just me, or is anyone else having "framework" and "standards" overload? Seems like every post mentions some form of standards or framework, and everyone wants to standardize everything within a framework. Or perhaps make a framework which will help standardize everything. I can't stop saying standards framework.......standards framework..... I miss the old days when "ware" was the hot term.. webware..awareware..opencourseware..cookware..
On topic.. Php is just so much more fun then Java... (except when you're first loading it into Apache for Win and Apache just tells you "failed").. And I visit phpclasses.org almost daily, just because there is lots of cool stuff there to try and play with. Kind of like javaboutique, but not as stale..
I do think it is an exaggeration to say Java is failing.. Although C#/.NET seems to peck away at the domination every quarter.. Way off topic: Does anyone have a website which lists the "top skills" as listed in job postings online? I used to visit such a site for jobs in the UK but can't find it anymore, and doing a search on google for "top skills job postings C# Java" is a fruitless endeavour.
"NewsForge is part of the same family of companies as Slashdot." Do some people feel the actual slashdot headline will be biased since there is a relationship there?
OpenOffice.org 2.0 introduces a comprehensive XForms creation and editing capability. In conjunction with improvements in the suite's ability to export XHTML 1.0 Strict code, OpenOffice.org can now be considered a mature web authoring tool.
Maybe people will discuss you on www.mydeathspace.com.
What is the .NET alternative to this? Why is it tied to Javascript??
With Satellite, I can then research Composites or Fiber-Optics!!

Pretty cool interview with mechanical engineeer for the 360.. You can almost sense his disgust when talking about the environmental standards the new system has to live up to:0 theguts.htm
