Problem is, someone has to build such a system. Someone has to maintain such a system. Therefore someone has to be given a position where they can possibly abuse such a system. The peace will only last until the people are shown something offensive. If we always know what's going on, our entire social order will break down, the world and the people in it would become dull, and to cure the boredem people will start to do some crazy shit. Hey, maybe the revolution will be televised after all!
Another thought: I don't know about you, but sometimes I just don't want to see what other people are up to, and I know for damn sure that I don't always want people to know what I'm up to. There's something primitive about the desire for privacy; even as an illusion people require it from time to time in order to function properly.

You have to be on the surface preparing for the dig before you could be underground, the number of people and sensitive equipment for a project like that would probably call for full time mowing services. Plus I don't imagine digging into the moon would be the best idea if the dangers of the dust and micro-rock shards is as bad as they say. Clear, Mow(dust), Tarp, Tent, just like camping! That's what I would do on the moon, but IANAA (I am not an astronomer)
Yeah, but when you pay for a shirt at the store, they take that protection off before you take it home. DRM big music style on your shirt would be like saying you can only wash it in our coin machines, and you can't pass it down to your kid brother years on down the road. Nor could you legally rip out the collar tags that keep sticking up, adding unnecessarily to your geek factor. It's one thing to prevent theft, it's another to treat consumers like slime.
I can't wait! While my little film didn't make nomination, it did make selection along with three other films made by my students at SummerTech last summer! The films in question are Retro Cop, The Button, Double Dare, and 1984. Here's the selection list: http://festival.machinima.org/modules.php?name=Con tent&pa=showpage&pid=5 If you happen to swing by, be sure to say hello, I'll be at the Fountain Head Machinimation software booth.
What else are young gaming geeks going to do with their money? They live at home in mom and dads basement with 100% disposable income; 300 bucks for a new GPU is nothing. It's a hot-rod culture, rather than mustang parts, it's computer parts.
I played it for about a month back in January as a Troll Priest called Harlet Jones. I disliked the game very much for various reasons, and sold my account. I heard about 2 weeks latter they forced a name change on my lovely Ms. Jones. If was still playing, I would have raised hell and cancel the account outright. I still think the name was one of the coolest sounding I had ever come up with for playing online, shame they don't see it the same way.
When working at SummerTech (a summer camp of dreams for super nerds 8-16 in New York) one of the kids had one, he was kind enough to let me hold it, but not play it. I made sure to target him latter in the staff vs campers dodgeball game.
Otherwise, I've never seen one back here in Texas. But then again, I've only seen one other DS here too... I do see a lot of the Gameboy SP, however. (I have a black one myself, love that Minish Cap and Advanced Wars 2!)
I may never really want a PSP to play, but I do dream of developing for one sometimes... mmmm...lowpoly...
It's cool dude, if you want in, you really don't need that prior exp. Just a hard-core portfolio and the attitude to follow it up. It's a visual medium, so you have to show them what you can do, the easiest way is to show them the last game you shipped, but they don't really expect everyone to have that. Just send them your reel and if it rocks their socks off, you'll get your interview and art test if you're an artist type.
In the meantime, don't stop working on your stuff, keep your self fresh
I just recently restored my laptop, and rather than go fishing for my MS Office 2001 disk with the faded product key, I opted to give OpenOffice.org a shot. For me, a casual.doc reader who just needs something light and quick to open and read with, OO.org is a great solution. It does just about everything a cheap guy like me could want. Plus I didn't have to dig in that dreaded closet of PC past and type in a cd key I can barely make out anymore. I had no idea a new version was coming out so soon, so this is great news to me! I even began spreading whispers about it at work, it may not be the juicy Lost roundtable, but a free alternative to something Microsoft for our Macs always perks some ears.
IMDB has always been there for me when I need to know the name of an actor or crew that contributed to a given film. I can't always recall actor names, and it's always interesting to see what other films the director has made. Sometimes I go in looking for one little tidbit and end up spending hours digging through the 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, as it were.
What they're trying to say is, that nothing has changed since the days of Tertris.
Boys are still the big buyers and mom sometimes likes Tertis-like games. Making more Tertis-like games may bring in more money, but I don't think it'll be as big as they think. (But I've been wrong before, and as an indie type my self, I'd love to be!)
"...with some employees having the option of relocating to Dallas, Texas."
Great! Just what we need, more traffic to downtown!
I had a friend apply as used console repair man at their main office about a year back. Said employees would just pick up games out of the warehouse and walk home with them, sounds like a nice place to work if your a gamer! I guess everyone else gets the raw deal with less direct competition and all.
It makes real cupcakes with a 40watt bulb, but the secret ingredient is love... Damnit!

If only they'd change their name and hired good ol'boy Bruce Campbell to promote them.... "Shop smart, shop S-Mart!"

That's not Xtreme enough. You're not really Xtreme until you lose the E.

My stuff is here: http://www.deadonque.com/ and the kids stuff will be here shortly: http://www.summertech.net/ and they will also featured on Machinima.com in the very near future.
