It's not just marketshare. Being easily exploited and high profile also need to fit the bill too. Do we ever hear about exploits for QNX, BeOS, OS/2, Minix, etc? At least we don't hear about them on slashdot.
Geez, would you mods stop using the "Insightful" to moderate up posts that should be "Funny"? If you want to give the poster karma, moderate up the posts using "Underrated"!
We have similar examples in the real world. A liger (lion/tiger), mule (donkey/horse), or zorse (zebra/horse) are viable animals. However, they're also sterile thus making the parent animals different species still.
Aren't "dwarves" and "elves" technically different species? Why is every other fantasy role-playing game guide calling them "races"? To me, "race" implies intra-species variations. Unless dwarves and elves really are the same species?
AT&T used to be the big evil empire. Then it was IBM. Microsoft took over for IBM. Sure why not have Apple take over for Microsoft as most hated company? So who came before AT&T? Standard Oil?
Effectively the same as single player? Not even close. The computer controlling the second character is completely brain-dead. It's so much easier with a buddy. For example, that first berserker you have to kill, the computer controlled player would constantly run into the berserker and I'd have to start the level over. With my friend playing as the second character, however, it was much easier since he knew how to actually run and dodge.
You know, I'd like find out what kind of porn or other illicit sites these legislators are surfing and then dredge that up those records to news agencies. See how that flies in their faces.
Technically speaking, "Linux" only referes to just the kernel. So there won't be any pretty colors or music to listen to with just a kernel (unless you're on LSD).
Not the most scientific. At least give us a standard deviation or even a range of what the results are. There's a slight difference, but are they statistically significant? Can't tell with the data provided. And given how close the results are, I don't think it matters.
Uhm, Mac OS X V10.0 was utter crap. The UI was really slow, software-based, and it crashed much more often than a unix-based system should. It wasn't until 10.2.x that it actually started not sucking.
If you're somehow connected to this ad hoc network, but use encrypted access to other computers, are you still ok? eg. if I ssh to my home computer, or use access an https site am I still ok?
Making something "new and innovative" is not enough sometimes. History shows many cases of companies that have changed a winning formula for some "new fresh ideas" with catastrophic results.
No, what really happened were idiots with too much money funding stupid ideas just because it was related to the internet somehow. If more rational heads had prevailed, those 200k jobs that you guys lost wouldn't have been there in the first place.
Probably. You know those series of tubes that cross the Atlantic can only hold so much...

I take it you're a vegetarian or, better yet, vegan? Otherwise you're a hypocrite.
Why not? It works for video games.
I don't get it. You would still buy a worse performing processor because it's from AMD? I would only do it if it was cheaper.

You can play Starcraft at work??? Where do you work, and how do I apply?

Probably something that we definitely don't want to see either.

Also worked for Joseph P. Kennedy...
On the other hand, would you have known about it if it wasn't posted on slashdot?

While interesting, that's just not feasible for the 99% of the rest of population, hence why we still have phone and cellphone companies.

Am I the only one who liked New Coke?
There are several facts that counter what you've said, and they come directly from the article:
1) He was ambitious enough to start his own company, twice
2) He's been in legal trouble and required other people's help
3) He's had multiple employment opportunities that went nowhere
So, maybe he does want to be left alone now, but back then (just several years ago) he sure didn't.

Personally, I refuse to spend that much on something I know will somehow eventually end up in the washing machine and dryer, twice!
