I can find accurate information much, much, much faster than I could in 1980.

So in terms of acquiring information, which is a precursor to acquiring knowledge, we are light-years ahead of where we were in 1980.

Now in terms of using technology to CONVEY information, I agree, we have lagged.

For example, in my view the presentation of Calculus has not changed much since its inception some 400 years ago. One of the biggest problems with the presentation is that we fail to bridge the gap between understanding of the abstract mathematical formulas and the concrete visualization of what they describe.

I firmly believe that computer graphics could help fill this gap but my professors still slog through crude chalk-board sketches trying to convey the concepts of area, volume, curvature, surfaces, rates of change, etc.

Every time I'm presented with a formula I'm doing mental tricks plugging in values for X & Y trying to visualize it. Computers could help here.

This has been sufficient justification for their use for about a hundred years or so.

    >How about you try to think of a way of addressing this problem which doesn't
    >hold the victim responsible for their own victimisation?

I don't think there is such a way.

I was bullied terribly as a kid. And unlike those in the article, the consequence for me was that I developed FANTASTIC people-reading skills as a result. I was CONSTANTLY on guard for who would be picking on my next, and what little detail of my behavior might be the next excuse for me being different.

I also believe, as other posters have said, that the only real response is to stand up for yourself violently. You are right, there will be some who simply are unable to do so, and for them, that sucks real bad. But for those who can, they should.

Because I don't think there is anything else you can do. You cannot tell an adult. Telling an adult, even if the adult bothers to get involved, will simply get you labeled as a tattle-tale, which will ratchet up the bullying, only now it will be anonymous. For example, you will be walking down the hall when your books suddenly go flying, and when you turn around no one will indicate who did it, but all will be smirking about it. Or your ear will be painfully thumped and when you turn around everyone is all innocent-eyed. Or you will find nasty little anonymous notes about your penis size taped to the back of your clothes.

I told my mother about getting picked on on the school bus. So one afternoon she got on the school bus and told all the kids to stop. What do you suppose the effect of this was? Do you think it made the bullying stop, or rather made the bullying increase because I had to have my mommy come deal with my problems for me?

I told my mother about getting picked on in math class. So one day she came and sat in on my math class. Of course I did not say a WORD that it was MY mother but the bullies suspected. And so the bullying all went underground so it could not be pinned on them.

    I should have fought back.

I'm not judging the roadkill, or the person who made it, or the people who made the road, I just find the roadkill disgusting.

It's much the same way when I view a video where a woman ends up with a big pile of goo on her face.

You know how it's gross when people sneeze and accidentally blow snot all over their faces? Well that's how I feel when I see semen all over someone's face.

And because I find it gross, when you see someone intentionally doing it to someone else, I naturally find this degrading. It would be like someone pissing on someone else. (And yes, I realize there are people who seem to enjoy that, too)

But you are probably right. There are probably lots of women out there who enjoy it. Perhaps they enjoy pleasing their man. Perhaps they enjoy being subservient. Perhaps they just enjoy gooey snot-like stuff being smeared on their faces.

The problem with it is that at the end of the day it is still a real pen and paper. A notebook is still going to be a physical notebook limited in size and capacity as a normal notebook. Yes, it is clever that you can annotate things to it, and even download the notes into a computer, but I'm stuck with real paper for the data entry. I want to skip the paper and draw right on-screen.
