  1. Re:Motion Sickness on Review of Episodic Content, Half-Life 2 Episode One · · Score: 1

The only game to make me extremely ill within an hour is Star Trek Voyager : Elite Force, based on the Quake 3 engine. Quake 3 does NOT make me sick, but after an hour of Elite Force I'll see white and puke everywhere. Valve games have yet to make me sick.

  2. Re:Multiplayer? on Review of Episodic Content, Half-Life 2 Episode One · · Score: 1

Wow, that's cheese. I already have both of those in my Steam and I haven't purchased Ep1. I consider Valve to be a trustworthy company that offers great content and services for the value but marketing that as "two new multiplayer games" on their web site is really sketchy.

Your review didn't touch on what I'm more interested in - Multiplayer. SiN Emergence : Episode 1 let me down considerably by not having a multiplayer option at release date, despite touting multiplayer throughout its developement. If HL2 : EP1 has multiplayer options included at launch date, this certainly makes the $19 price tag more attractive. On their web site they state "two multiplayer games." Anyone who purchased Ep1 have any info on what's been added?

Agreed completely. In the "real world", the harder the password you supply a user with, the greater chance it will be recorded somewhere easily accessible by other employees.

In most of my environments, it's quite common to see post-it notes stickied to a monitor with both the login name and the associated password.

In a network environment where file security is paramount and the possibility of corporate espionage exists, then perhaps a strict password policy should be enforced. Otherwise, it's really just silly.

He must be one of those guys Penny Arcade was speaking about a few months back. A shill, I believe they're called.

People paid by the game producers to spin a game to the internet community through web sites, newsgroups, etc.

Mind you, the game actually is pretty good so I'm not sure if that's necessary.

While what he said wasn't that funny, he in no way insulted any race or culture with his so-called bigotted [sic] statement. Unless of course you consider yourself a middle eastern extermist. Then maybe you're insulted by the stupidity of this plan. It seems these days that people are going out of their way to be offended...

  10. A non gamer perspective for non gamers. on CNN's Game Over On The 360 · · Score: 1

I'm not sure why a vanilla article like this, which is reproduced on many non-gaming sites, is slashdot worthy? The article is written by a person whose comments seem to stem from reading other web sites about Xbox 360's, and not from the perspective of actually owning one. Nor does the target of this article seem to be an actual gamer than it does my father. Admittedly the gallery is nice, but it's been featured in the past by many gaming sites, in much higher resolutions.

I agree, this article is poorly done. However, Windows MCE 2005 is horrible as PVR software if you want to do anything further than record cable TV. It's fine as a home operating system with the ability to record TV. The schedules aren't always accurate, you can't have two (or more) different incoming sources, the software is prone to crashing (on Intel TST MCE 2005 suggested hardware, on a fresh format), and to have crystal clear video you require an expensive tuner card. I've been beta testing and using Windows MCE for years now, and I've yet to feel MCE can offer it's money's worth. People are better off with an embedded type PVR system, which will provide a higher quality experience and save them considerably more money and frustration.
