    Bob Hutzfield has put a dozen copies of "Red Hat Linux 10.0" up for auction at eBay.com. He claims that his toilet is the portal to a "temporal vortex singularity" and that the toilet periodically spits out items from the future.

    That means he figured out how to get Laverne out of tentacle jail :-)

    (note to mods: If you don't get it, you obviously never played "Day of the Tentacle". You should. Right now.)

    Oh get real. This is an unstable alpha with only 3 maps. It's not like anyone is going to keep playing this instead of buying the real version when it (finally) comes out!

    Overall, it is "business unfriendly". As is commonly known, monopolies are bad and harmful for the overall economy, disturbing a healthy competition and market. It is extremely short sighted and simplistic to describe not pursuing this as business friendly.

    Unfortunately, the economics of it doesn't matter, only the perception of antitrust regulation as being "socialist".

    Who is this "we" that are asking for a compromise? I think we've compromised one time too many as it is! The DMCA and their subsequent (ab)use of it prove they have no intrest in anything less than total control of how media is produced, distributed, copied, viewed and heard.

    You have explained why the fonts are RENDERED badly. But none of this explains the needlessly complex methods that are used for installing and using fonts under Linux. As usual, it's a bunch of excuses and no action. :(

    Hey, if I had the l33t c0d3z0r1ng 5k1llz to fix this, I would have done it by now. Chastising me for failing to fix xfree's font handling is like complaining that your cat hasn't finished overhauling the car's engine yet!

    Two main reasons, both derive from IP issues.
    The freetype bytecode interpreter is possibly infringing on an Adobe patent. MS and Apple both shell out big bucks in licensing fees to Adobe for rights to the patented aspects of TrueType rendering, and it shows in the quality of their screen font rendering. Second, the fonts that are available freely (GNU free, not $0 free) are utter shite. They would look bad on any system. Microsoft has great fonts, which are available for free (as in no money) but there are some restrictions on distributing them, so they are never included in a Linux distro.

    Did you read the second line? "Test report commissioned by Gateway Corporation"

    That loud WHOOSH noise must be their credibility flying right out the nearest window!

    These "independent" testing labs are in the business of telling corporations what they want to hear. If Apple went to them tomorrow and paid for a similar test, they would put out a report on how much faster the iMac is than a Gateway.

    That's right! I've been so misguided, I'm going to go sell my xbox to some misguided freshman and buy another peecee! Now, just one thing before I go, where can I get the MAME roms for Halo, Shenmue 2, and Jedi Starfighter?

    Setting up an ICS setup is not easy when you have to handle one-way satellite. Your up connection is a modem (yes dial up) and your down link is the satellite.

    Not anymore. The current earthlink/directv system is bidirectional over the satellite.

    Gee, that's nice. And how does it get in there to run the C compiler? That's right. Through an exploit. X86 shellcode.

    Switching that x86 code out for PPC/Sparc/MIPS code would be a simple copy/paste job. The SSL vulnerability is not x86 specific, so relying on architecture to keep you safe is still a bad idea.
