Yes. Everyone's heard of Google already and many are using it. Google will be different sheerly because everyone else will be using it and it'll be better supported by both the company and random people you know or meet. Also, you know Google isn't going anywhere for a long, long time.

  2. Re:The information has to be reliable on MIT Develops Camera-Like Fabric · · Score: 3, Interesting

Actually, I wonder if that's true. The only thing that would offer us is notice of an absolutely silent thing moving behind us that is not casting a shadow towards us. If there were already other movement behind us, it wouldn't even provide that.

It seems to me a very small back-mounted camera would provide a lot more info than a full-body fabric-camera that only shows motion.

I think the camo-cloth option is a lot more useful. Camo was never meant to truly conceal, it just does an excellent job of breaking up your lines when you're hiding. If someone is looking your way intently, they're going to see you. It's when they're scanning quickly that they'll miss you. This could do exactly the same, but would always match the colors behind you to create the camo pattern.

    Exactly.

I keep seeing this 'do graphics matter' questions about video games as if there's only 1 and the answer has to apply to it. There are millions of games, and each one is different. Some need good graphics... In fact, some exist merely to show off good graphics. Others just need a good view of the information for the player to make their decisions. Some only need text and no graphics at all!

  4. Evolution on Experimental Video Game Evolves Its Own Content · · Score: 1

Having the game auto-evolve the weapons based on user response is very neat, but is it the best way?

Wouldn't have the users be able to make their own decisions about it and set up their own weapon be better? It involves the users in more points, and gives them control over the system instead of hoping the weapon becomes more like they want. It allows for more play-styles as well.

  5. Re:Huh? on Google Announces Chrome OS, For Release Mid-2010 · · Score: 1

Actually, it does imply that Google thinks Chrome OS is better in those areas than its competitors and it's using those points to sell the product. If it wasn't better, it would be foolish to use those as selling points because the competition will simply make a chart that shows their own OS is better than everything Chrome is advertised for. That's really, really simple marketing.

This was the first game I thought of, too. It was designed from the ground up to depend on the 'skill' of the player, rather than stats, for competitions. Everyone has access to everything (with a little effort) and the level cap is low and easy to reach within a few hours.

I think it's a great game, and I still play it occasionally... I can't say that about any level-based games.

  7. Re:Good idea on Epic Sticking With Classic Controllers For Now · · Score: 2, Insightful

Other than Wii Sports, the only game I've found that uses the WiiMote well is WarioWare. Yeah, a silly mini-games game. I blame this on the fact that the WiiMote is sadly lacking in capability. There is no 1:1 mapping of movement (yes, WiiPlus is coming... We'll see) and pointing at the screen is -not- accurate. With the old light-gun, you could use it like a regular gun and aim from the hip. With the WiiMote, you can't do that... You have to aim in relation to an invisible box... One that changes position and size depending on where you stand.

So thanks to those 2 problems, both melee and ranged weapons are both flawed horribly.

Natal, supposedly, won't have the 1:1 problems... But it still won't handle guns properly. It's also a lot more flexible than the WiiMote as well, though... So we'll see.

It might end up like the WiiFit, though, with only a couple games supporting it and just dying.

This case is living proof that secrets can get out, even if you protect them jealously.

As a society, we are torn between preventing crimes and punishing criminals... If we could prevent crimes with no false positives, I'm sure we would. Since we can't, many want to do the best we can anyhow. Many don't want to cross that 'thought police' line.

In this case, even putting a law on the books specifically forbidding this won't stop anyone, and the harm doesn't occur until the image is released from secrecy. And even then, the 'harm' is subjective. I'm sure Miley Cyrus had an 'eww, ick!' moment when she heard about this, but I seriously doubt she cries herself to sleep over it. For someone 5 years younger, they might indeed cry themselves to sleep over it. It all depends on the person.

Our laws don't take factors like that into account. They are black and white and there's not much room for mitigating circumstances any more.
