They filed in July 2005. It was apparently granted in Sep, 2010. So they only waited a year, not 5 years. And they may have waited the year because they were getting their ducks in a row, negotiating with Nintendo, or other reasons.
I'm not saying they aren't trolling... I'm saying they may have their reasons. We don't know.
If they lower the cost OR improve the quality, it's a win for everyone. I'd prefer they improve the quality, but I'm not really in a position to be picky.
I almost never need to mail or receive a letter, so that only leaves packages for me. (Actually, I do get quite a few bills and letters, but I want almost none of them. I'd rather have them electronically... It's just not an option for them.)
Package delivery by USPS is the worst out there. They are the only service that refuses to leave packages with the apartments' leasing office. It would save -everyone- time and money if they did so, but they won't... Even if I beg and sign things. It makes them such a huge hassle to deal with that I usually pay more to have another service deliver the stuff instead.
And mailing things? They are the slowest and grumpiest bunch of workers I've ever met. (This doesn't apply to all offices, but this has been my experience at about 4 of the last 5 I've used.) They don't explain things well, they're slow to do what they need to, and they aren't pleasant about anything.
However, I will say that the attitudes are the same when I have to pick up at FedEx and UPS as well. It's just that I don't usually have to, since they'll leave it with the leasing office.
And now Amazon is partnering with 7-11 to ship packages there so you can pick them up without any fuss. I'm wishing more people could do that so I could avoid the USPS office altogether. (Amazon is the one company I know I won't need this service for, sadly.)
I felt the same way until I went to a local coding dojo and they had chosen Coffeescript as the language that week. 2 hours later, I'm a convert. Seriously, it's pretty nice, if for nothing other than dealing with classes in a sane and safe way.
One of the things they said that convinced me was that the javascript it outputs is much, much better than the equivalent javascript you'd write by hand. And I have to agree... it was very thorough and complete.
Oh, I missed that it was a GS-only gift card. I assumed it was a Visa one.
Well then they haven't dodged the bullet, because you still can't end up with what you were supposed to. They're still up for a lawsuit. That's really stupid.
In other words, they are preventing a ton of lawsuits by giving you the value they stole from you. As a nice bonus, you can still buy what you would have originally had, or you can buy something else.
I almost wish I hadn't posted on this article so I could mod you up. This is exactly right. Don't include boring things. Just include the fun, and let the game be the length it wants to be.
"After all, 10 hours of awesome is better than 20 hours of boring."
Actually, I agree. I'd rather spend more money on less game-time if it meant a more awesome experience.
Having said that, it's possible to offer both. My all-time favorite games (Oblivion, Fallout 3, FO New Vegas) each gave me 200+ quality hours. Even considering that that's multiple play-throughs, that's an insane amount of value. I think one of my Oblivion play-throughs was 150+ hours all by itself.
Most games seem to try to stretch things out to reach those hours, and end up boring me into quitting a few hours in. I'd probably have enjoyed them if they'd shortened the game but kept all the real content.
Are you serious? I have never been shy about giving my age. If you think this is an example of tricking me into something I haven't said before, you're sadly mistaken.
I'm 34 and learning more and faster than ever before. I pick up new languages and ideas like a fish in water. The more I learn, the easier it is to learn other new things.
I can't believe that 6 more years would see me turn into a turnip.
No, 40 is most definitely NOT too old to learn new tricks. My father think he's too old at almost twice my age, and I don't even agree with that.
"calculated that at the then-commercial rate for pristine graphene -- $250 for a two-inch square -- a box of traditional shortbread Girl Scout Cookies could turn a $15 billion profit."
So it definitely doesn't cost more to make than it's worth. They've already done the calculation and the $15bil was just the profit.
Why do you assume that the content providers aren't in on this? They don't need to worry about lawsuits if they have worked out deals with the game publishers... And they probably have. D2D is probably providing all the contacts they need to make this deal happen.
And it's not like others haven't done it. GameTap provides the same service, for about the same price. (Game selection is pretty weak, though, IMHO.)
Have you tried holding an N64 controller? Those things were ridiculous.
The PS controllers were the first controller that actually felt good in my hands, due to the crude attempt they made at shaping it to fit human hands. The large XBox controllers were the first to first my rather-large hands properly.
In my experience (with 1-acre and 4-acre sections to mow) there is a little you can do to optimize the route, but in general, you want to end up with the clippings shooting toward the center of the lawn so it's easy to rake. (The bags on the mowers are a pain because you have to empty them so often.) So the perfect path in the article is marred by the fact that you then have to either re-mow some of it to shoot the clippings in the right direction, or get out a blower and spend just as much time doing that.
Absolutely. A half-acre is barely enough to do any sports-like activities. There's a very good chance that the ball/disc/boomerang/whatever will end up in the neighbor's yard.
At best, it's a pain to go around and get it, and everyone waits while one person has a good run, unbalancing everything.
At worst, you have a cranky neighbor or break something in your neighbor's yard.
So yeah, having a big yard can make a difference.
If all you do is barbecue, then a 1/2 acre yard is more than enough, though.
That's actually really good value. Just having the certificate is worth something if someone wants to know if you know the subject. I'm kind of surprised they would acknowledge successful completion with anything other than a 'good job!'.

And instead of paper bills, those companies are using... Yup, Email. You invalidated your own point.

Hm, then it should work. Thanks!
Maybe he means http://jashkenas.github.com/coffee-script/#lexical_scope ?
Some discussion on why it could be bad: https://github.com/jashkenas/coffee-script/issues/712
Personally, I tend to use classes extensively, so this is a lot less likely to happen. (Because you need to use "this." or "@" for class variables.)
WIll I be able to hook it to my PC and get my nVidia card to drive it? If so, I'm sold.
Otherwise, forget it. There are only a few PS3 games in 3D, and only a few BluRays, too. It's a pretty sad market at the moment.

Because you're entering another country and their rules are taking effect? Is it really that hard to see?
Oh, I missed that it was a GS-only gift card. I assumed it was a Visa one.

It was worth $49.99.

More unsubstantiated arguments? I don't know if we've been trolled, or you were really trying to argue effectively, and failed utterly?
Oh, my favorite are the bundles... Not sure how they'd work that with OS's, but I'm sure they'd find a way.
Let's not forget all the racism issues with webcam-based facial recognition, too!

What part of it don't you understand? It makes perfect sense to me.
