Sure. That is the problem. But how often do you really find yourself looking for emails from more than a couple months ago. I have never been disappointed about not having mail/email from that long ago. But, then again, I work hard not to over archive. I just never find the time to do it properly which means it takes me longer to find it than it is worth.

  3. Re:Maybe Outlook import has improved on Thunderbird 1.5 Arrives · · Score: 1

8 years worth of email? Really? I wonder what would happen if you needed to import all of that into Outlook.

You could always try starting with Thunderbird today and use it for all new emails. If you find that you need any old emails, you could move those ones as you find out that you need them.

After a few months, you would never need those old ones.

Or is it possible to maybe export only a year's worth or a few months at a time instead of all 8 years?

There's a big difference between accepting DRM music and this. I knew up front that iTunes music is DRM'ed. I willingly accepted it because I was able to find acceptable for me ways of using that music. I did not willingly accept any data mining of music that I play. If I choose to make a bad decision, that's one thing. For Apple to make a bad decision for me without my knowledge is something that deserves a slap on their wrists and whatever bad press comes with it.

All you people that wanted Windows to rush out a fix. Take that. Now you see that rushing isn't always the best policy. They just need to take their time and make sure everything works. And, if that means they never actually fix the problem, well so be it. It's better than rushing and then realizing they only scratched the surface of the problem. Because, that's embarassing.

But how many people care to actually do anything to maintain their computer. That's what they have technical friends for, or that is what they pay technical support at some computer store. My car works fine out of the box, but every once in a while it needs new tires/oil, etc. I'm not willing to do those things so I pay to have somebody else do them. But, I don't think that downgrades the usability of the car.

All you have to do to switch to Windows is buy a new PC. They all come with it installed out of the box. They also come with all the software most people need either already installed or available to buy at your local Best Buy/Circuit City. I set up my non-tech parents like this over a year ago and have only had to help them twice when my dad accidentally told his firewall not to allow his browser to connect to the internet.

The only support I've had to do to my own computer is fix the bootloader everytime Ubuntu decides to override it and I forget to back it up. Sometimes I think we spend a little too much time nit picking things and tweaking systems to get that extra percent performance increase.

    Time for some coffee.

The resolution is just so high on these new video formats, that the human eye is not capable of deciphering the image. Fortunately, the hardware makers are going to put limits on how much throughput can come through our monitors/tvs until the human eye can see the image. Once that part is taken care of, then everything will be fine. And to think everybody thought that scaling down the image on the monitors was a bad thing.
