I'm not sure this is really a company chasing after anything. This kinds seems like a "oh yeah? we can do that!", and is being thrown together purely for prestige. The best part is this line:
"Astrium President Francois Auque said one side benefit of the project is to shatter the cliche that established aerospace giants like EADS have lost their imagination and sense of daring."
Their imagination is to copy someone else.
Their daring... I guess that's trying to find investors for a $1,000,000,000 investment.:P
More to the point: I married a geek girl. I don't like having to choose between playing games and spending time with her, so I seek out games that let me do both. When I find them, it rocks.:D:D:D
If they label something as non-toxic, and it turns out it is, then it should be the fault of the group who said "use this", especially when that group is our Government. Otherwise, why are we giving them our money to keep us safe?
I'm not saying that the companies shouldn't be on top of the latest research, but seriously, these regulatory bodies exist to keep us safe. If they're not able to do that effectively, then maybe it's time to replace them.
To put it another way:
The company offers us an optional product in exchange for money.
The Government demands our money in exchange for a mandatory service.
The difference is I can choose to avoid one of these two groups.

MythTV is better cause it'll only punch you once in the gut, right at the very beginning, as opposed to WMC which will punch you in the gut at a later date.
Actually, oddly, you might be helping promote creativity, as those people who create obsessively would be much more likely to just "give it away" for free rather than jumping through the hoops to pay for the taxes.
Maybe if you ignore the notion that practice does indeed make perfect. Ahhh, "Practice makes perfect."
I feel I must respond with...
"Striving for excellence motivates you; striving for perfection is demoralizing." -Harriet Braiker
"Gold cannot be pure, and people cannot be perfect." -Chinese Proverb
"They say that nobody is perfect. Then they tell you practice makes perfect. I wish they'd make up their minds." -Wilt Chamberlain
I could go on.
How about, instead of merely looking at what sounds good in quotes, we... ya know... look at the data. Cause the data says it's not working.
Just a thought.

All you're actually saying is that "the cost" is collected by groups above the cable companies, not that the cost is pennies of what you're actually charged.
And your net-neutrality comment makes no sense.

Wow! An enzyme destroys bird flu viruses under carefully controlled lab conditions in saline buffer, therefore it will also kill them in a greasy and presumably protein-denaturing cosmetic preparation! Not only is this horrible non-disease that has so far been a miniscule threat to humans now defeated, albeit only in principle and under conditions completely different than those being proposed, but it can be done by simply wearing makeup! Don't fear the bird flu, get all decadent and wear lots of makeup! While you're at it, drink! Do drugs! Have sex with abandon! Buy lots of cool stuff! Get totally wild! Buy an iPhone! Run around in the street screaming and singing while flailing your arms around and lolling your tongue! Take cell phone videos of yourself and friends doing it all! We are saved!
Yet another example of shameless self-promotion by a scientist who should know better. Much better.
Hey!
So how long are they suppose to be supporting the Win9x OSes? 2 more years? 5? 10? 20? Until there aren't any more Win9x users? But if all of the Win9x users have their OSS software continue to support Win9x, what incentive do they have to upgrade? They obviously don't care about bugs or viruses if they're still using Win9x software after all these years.
How do you reach that conclusion? Win9x isn't any more virus prone than WinXP (in fact, you could argue it is less so since it's no longer the main target). As far as bugs, it has it's share, but again, so does WinXP (I just did an fresh install of XP on my wife's computer that didn't take, and is causing all sorts of minor headaches like disabling the sound server every-other time the comp is started).
What 9x has that XP does not is full Dos support. No biggie if you only want to do the latest of the late, but some members of my family have been buying and using software for decades, and would rather keep using what they know and understand rather than buying the latest, less-useful bit.
After briefly debuting as the 7th most popular MP3 player, the Zune dropped to 13th most popular.
Universal gets three choices here:
Put up (only sell music through the Zune store as that is, let's face it, the only influence they have) and deal with only having the 13th most popular MP3 player market to go after... Not going to happen.
Just thought I'd point out that, even though the Zune is the 13th best selling MP3-Player at the moment, that doesn't make it the over-all 13th most popular. A lot of people aren't using MP3-players they've purchased in the last two-weeks, but ones they've had for some time. Unless the Zune can remain a "strong" seller over a long period, I don't forsee them having much of a market share. (indeed, my estimate would put them, percentage-wise, in the single digits... the low single digits)
Except for their royalty on the hardware, I don't see what MS is really bringing to the game. And that's only ammo for the greedy RIAA bastards. Ya know?
Cocaine is harmless? my friend blew out her sinuses doing cocaine. She gets any sinus cold and it can be very bad for her. If she hadn't've quit when she did, she would've died. Not exactly my idea of "harmless"
did you read the article? it's not like Microsoft was going "hey, you failed verification, please see our forums for more help."
What they say instead is "you failed the test, please give us $145", and only those people who were computer literate enough to find the help forum without help can submit a problem.
The point is for every person who got a false positive and went to the forum, there is an untold number of others who may have said, "just take my money." There are even more who are likely just living with the problem, unable to get patches and updates because of a false mark against them.
Meanwhile Microsoft insists that nothing's wrong, and everything is great. That's the insulting part.
And even worse, those people running known pirated copies simply pirate the patches and avoid WGA. Duh.

[blockquote]I'm sure they'll find a way to work that effect into the soon to be butchered ST-TOS..[/blockquote]
NO NO NO, for the thousandth time, NO!
This is different than Star Wars. They're not butchering it. They're not even trying to remove the cheese aspect. If you look at what they're doing, you'll see the same cheesy Star Trek that we all know and love. They're not changing that. They're not aiming for realism. They're aiming to remove mistakes, improve the quality (of the prints), set it up so that future generations, who will care nothing for the authenticity of the jerkiness in the opening credits can still watch the show. We've gotten used to a better quality of post-production, and that's all they're really adding. Heck, they're making these elaborate computer models just so they can REDO the exact same shots. Frame for Frame.
But you know what? You can just go watch. For Free. This Weekend. Check Your Local Listings. SCI-Fi should be showing it a week from now (if I remember the listings correctly).
You don't like what they've done. Great. But give it a chance before you declare "They're Butching It."
BTW - I'm not a trekkie. I care very little for the Post-TOS Star Trek (some of the movies are ok, but TNG killed the series for me). I love the old show and am eager to see what they've done.
If one did do something horrible and terrible, but wasn't prosecuted for 20 years he can go on the list. However, if he doesn't do anything for 6 years after he goes on the list, he can be asked to taken off?
Of course, to be fair, when the first male astronaut went up, people weren't making jokes about he wasn't going to stop for directions.
I don't think it's inappropriate to counter bad-sexism with good... I just wish we didn't need it to begin with:P
Actually PETA refers to People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, so you're actually just looking at 10 protesters flopping... most likely outside a KFC.
Genuine Advantage wasn't part of the agreement I signed. It didn't exist.
Why is it now necessary for my computer to stay up to date?
Why do you think that's ok?
Why?

must be because the upper-class yokels with mod points like Huxley and think Wells was a dope.
