  1. Re:Protecting rights on White House Responds To SOPA, PIPA, and OPEN · · Score: 1

You seem to have bought into the industries demonization of us; that we're the reason that the industry is suffering, because we steal everything we want and rob them of their livelihood. That simply isn't true. They just want to squeeze out more profits from us lowly peasants.

Sure, there are some asshole "pirates" who never buy anything, but I believe that most people buy things that they think are worth their money. People like buying things, but they don't like wasting their money. One way to avoid wasting money is to make sure that you like something before you invest in it.

As the Valve philosophy states: "piracy is a service problem." Inconveniencing the people who buy a product with restrictive and intrusive DRM is a service problem. They don't want to deal with it, and they want to discourage those practices by telling them in the only language they understand. (money)

DRM never stops piracy and never will. Piracy is an inescapable fact of business and no amount of DRM will ever stop it. The sooner the industry wakes up and realizes that intrusive DRM is a waste of time and money, the sooner everyone can be happy.

The current stable Debian isn't stable at all. I like Linux Mint a lot, but Linux Mint Debian Edition has all the same problems as Debian itself. ATI drivers are impossible. The open source drivers work better. Linux distros are just too poorly held together. Stuff breaks too easily. It can work perfectly one day, then one update later, it's broken.

  5. Re:Sadly, I think Apple might win on this one on Windows 8 To Natively Support ISO and VHD Mounting · · Score: 1

So when DirectX 12 comes out only for Windows 8 and has the 'latest and greatest graphical technology' and all the newest games only focus on supporting "modern" technology like DX12, I'll have to "upgrade" to Win8 in order to play those games. But wait! If I do that, I won't be able to bring my Steam library with me, since Microsoft now finally has their users' balls in a vicegrip, the way Apple always had, by only allowing their users to install Microsoft-approved content. So it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone when Valve's application to get Steam into the Microsoft Apps for Windows Live Shop gets denied, since that would be in direct competition with their Microsoft Games for Windows Live store. Suddenly, jailbreaking/rooting my Windows 8 is looking like a great idea.

Doesn't this defeat the purpose of the rapid release cycle? I understand that the idea is so that they can get major features out quicker, but there's no reason they couldn't do that anyways and just change the sub-version number. Rather than 4.0, 5.0 and 6.0, we could just have 4.0.0, 4.0.1, and 4.0.2 or 4.0.0, 4.1.0, and 4.2.0 or something.
