    a significant leap

21 years back. Honestly I don't like it, AJAX is not good for the users, not good for the developpers. All of that could be replaced by Java or any similar tech. With much better results. Let's switch to the Web 3.0 directly.

My opinion is of no importance. I just stated the "official" position, as much as I understand it.

In a free society, one doesn't surrender his/her culture when using public resources.

A school is not a public resource, in the sense you can't go there if you're not a pupil or a teacher. Anyway, what about UK where you must dress the official costume of the school? And FYI, this law was much more opposed by christians one hundred years ago than by muslims today. In the french republic, Liberty is one part, Equality and Fraterny are the others and they are as important as the first one.

This is not about culture, this is about religion at public schools. And this is not targeted to the muslims but it applies to every one. This is the law and it is a very old one.

Wrong. They are french. And most of them don't have another nationality.

but the common denominator is they are Muslims.

Yes some of them are muslims. And what? The police men are 90% christians (were baptized). And what?

My comment may be considered flamebait here

    You're right for this point

it is the reality of Muslim immigrants all across Europe

There is hardly any immigrant involved in these riots. Most of the rioters are french. Born in France. Educated in France.

The do not wish to blend in and they are intolerant of other religions, not just the Jews.

Totaly wrong. Would be too long to explain.

Perhaps you should familiarize yourself with current evets before your next comment.

Instead of familiarizing with events, you should meet people.
I don't want to say there is no problem. Because there is. But it is not a matter of religion. This is a social problem (unemployment, future, integration, ...). Give the youngs some fun, give the older a job and there would be no riot.

I disagree. There is plenty of client-side apps. And the rumour says 30% of the Java Developpers do client-side stuff. The JIT is fast enough for GUIs. The startup time is still a problem. Partialy solved by JDistro or a native compiler (GCJ, Jet).

Most of the code portability issues are solved in Java. By using Java, your code will run 90% of the boxes. Of course, Java is not perfect. And even if the portability is good, it is not perfect: there was some minor bugs when our sowftare was runned on OSX. However, it was extremely easy to fix it. Also Java is some way limited so doesn't fit the bill for some applications. OTOH, Classpath.org is going well and there is plenty of good free JVMs. Almost for any box. If you take the limitations in consideration, you can write code that will run on 99% of the boxes. You could do the same in C but it would be painful and much more limited (no GUI, no DB, ...). Also, most issues with L10N and I18N are already solved with Java.
