Find software that is good and make software that does the same thing or worse, or just buy the company. Who needs originality with a business plan like that?
I mean.. taking Novell's NDS and making Active Directory was probably the most innovative thing ever.
Since it isn't fully compatible with all of the programs we use at my work. Many of my helpcalls lately have been "Program X isn't working!" and the solution has always been the same "uninstalled IE6."
Its not their fault really, if I saw IE7 was a critical update and didn't know it was going to break my programs I'd install it too. Luckily you can specifically block IE7 from installing from the windows update site.
built in... maby then people can look at a Linux box and go "wow" like they do on those stupid Microsoft commercials. I have my PC triple booting between XP/Vista and Ubuntu.. I was using XP most of the time.. now I'm using Ubuntu 100% of the time because of Compiz Fusion.
This would also benefit windows users. What if your PC dies (with a retail version of Windows installed), and you decide to get a new PC from Dell. Shouldn't you have the option to use the existing license from the old computer, rather than being forced to buy another copy?
oh come on... like NO ONE in the Boston Police has seen Aqua Teen Hunger Force? Remember.. these were in a few different cities and only Boston's Police department were dumb enough to confuse them for bombs.
Gee.. those lite brites look like a character from Aqua Teen Hunger Force (someone in the department must have known that) maby we should call up cartoon network to see if they know anything about this.
*ring* *ring*
Cartoon Network: Hello?
Boston Police: Hi, this is the Boston Police did you put up lite brites around out city?
Cartoon Network: Yes we did.. its a part of our advertising campaign for Aqua Teen Hunger Force.
Boston Police: Oh ok, we were just making sure they weren't bombs.
Cartoon Network: No no.. nothing explosive about them.
Boston Police: Thanks a lot, we didn't want to shutdown transportation all over the city over some stupid lite brites.
Cartoon Network: Yeah, that would have made you look like dumb pieces of shit.
Boston Police: Yes it would have.
I agree. I actually know a person who has volunteered in certain parts of Africa by teaching basic computer skills. She was saying that the goal over there is to teach people enough computer skills so that they would be able to take online classes. Now, you could argue back and forth about if an online course is better or worse than a real life course.... but since there is a shortage of teachers over there I'd say its a hell of a lot better than nothing. I would support programs that gave free online classes to people in 3rd world countries.
Trust me, if I thought sending them food over and over would get them out of poverty I'd be all for it. But.. we need to get these people to help themselves.
Actually, working in a helpdesk I've come across far more damaged hard drives in laptops rather than damaged LCD screens. I would agree that the LCD would probably be the weakest part, but maby people realize this and are more careful with the screens? Who knows.
I would like to see a commercial where the PC guy plays a video game and the Mac guy gets all confused at what he's doing.
what about generic insulin?
on
Growing Insulin
·
· Score: 5, Interesting
as a type 1 diabetic it amazes me that there isn't a generic insulin yet. Synthetic insulin has been around for how long now? Luckily I have insurance that covers pretty much anything I need minus a small co-pay, but I know the supplies I need costs my insurance company hundreds a month. You would think insulin and test strips could be made on the cheap by now. I guess its way too profitable for that.
Check out joinleenow.org - they need $11 million (they have $9 million so far) to test a possible treatment and cure using BCG, which I think costs $11 a vial. It amazes me how little support they're getting (maby because it could cure/treat diabetes on the cheap?). So far they have reversed 90% of type 1 diabetic mice.
Seriously, look at the numbers for 2001:
2001 Statistics (2004 Almanac)
Disease / Condition Annual Deaths
1) Heart Disease 700,142
2) Malignant Neoplasms (Cancer) 553,768
3) Stroke (cerebrovascular disease) 163,538
4) Chronic Lower Respiratory disease 123,013
5) Accidents (Car Accidents* (2002) - 44,000) 101,537
6) Diabetes Mellitus 71,372
7) Pneumonia & Influenza 62,034
8) Alzheimer's Disease 53,852
9) Kidney disease (Nephritis, nephrotic syndrome, & nephrosis) 39,480
10) Septicemia (toxins in the blood - known as "blood poisoning") 32,238
Total Deaths per Year** 2,400,000

So.. even if you round the number up to 3,000 for the 9/11 attacks.. that's still nothing to the number of people who die of disease every year.
Why are we wasting billions on wars in the middle east to "stop terrorism" when its not even that big of a problem anyway. Wouldn't that money be put to better use by providing better healthcare to people, on programs that encourage healthier lifestyles, cleaning up the air and water. These wars DO NOT BENEFIT anyone in the US except oil and weapons companies. The US no longer has any credibility, and we are being hated more and more by the global community.
9/11 should have been treated like a criminal investigation, arrests should have been made immediately to anyone who aided in the attacks, and that would have been the end of it. But no, lets all be racists towards Arabs because 19 of them attacked us, and their ring leader is still in a cave somewhere. This racism only encourages more wars in the middle east and will only result in more soldiers getting killed, Americans loosing more rights, and more profits to oil and weapons companies.
"It is important for the human race to spread out into space for the survival of the species. Life on Earth is at the ever-increasing risk of being wiped out by a disaster, such as sudden global warming, nuclear war, a genetically engineered virus or other dangers we have not yet thought of."
so.. according to the "genius" we can't have a nuclear war or a genetically engineered virus in space?
I'm a type 1 diabetic and a couple weeks ago I flew from Philly - Jacksonville.. I took my syringes, vials of insulin, tubing for my insulin pump, lancets, and my laptop in my cary-on.. and guess what gave me the most problems, the laptop.
"The people that can't give up the extra 4 characters to call it what it is, are basically whiners."
I noticed that you wrote "4" instead of "four." What's wrong? Is "four" too big of a word to write out?
To store encrypted backups of some personal files, if they want to spend the time to decrypt them and look though all my school papers to find information that's probably already public information then go right ahead.
$600 for a 1.5ghz machine? I don't think so. Oh wait.. I forgot.. it has the Apple logo on it.. that makes it worth the extra money.
Release a version of OSX that works on openfirmware and I'll buy a copy of OSX, otherwise screw Apple and their overpriced hardware.

You're right.. if Colbert won he would have signed laws that only favored flavored tortilla chips and laughter.

I had users complaining that they couldn't connect to the network. I reset the switch and it worked again. Interesting story huh?

will still not get any geeks laid.
This must have taken him an entire "Heros" commercial break to make this.
What will be his next "hack?" Making his lights dim with a "dimmer switch?"
Vista can run in a VM? I didn't think processors were fast enough yet to run a virtual Vista machine.

is this an April fools joke I'm too dumb to understand?
excuse me.. but that joke is supposed to use only 3 steps with the 2nd being unknown and the 3rd being profit. Please revise
