I'm not sure I trust paypal or ebay for that matter. They are like that shifty brother of your friend who always seems to do things that are just barely legal (but rarely ethical). In these days where you can barely trust major vendors (a la Sony) or banks that seem to get hacked and then admit it eventually, i see a definite advantage in going to the keep my money under my matress (long term savings) or in my pocket (for immediate use).
I had great memories of Radio Shack. I could go in there, and talk to a guy who knew the difference between a relay and a resistor, and knew what the funny coloured bands were used for.
Little by little, the stuff I used for my projects left the store to be replaced by the same crap you can buy at any other of 100 stores.
The people that knew what they were doing were replaced by people who really had no clue, and could have been selling burgers or mini-skirts, it really didn't matter.
The final insult was when they started asking for an address and phone number for a credit card purchase. The last time I was in a radio shack, they would not sell me the item I wished to buy on my plastic without me giving my address to them. So I went to the other side of the mall and never looked back.
I hope that radio shack wallows in the misery it has created for itself. When you are the k-mart of electronics, this is what happens, and no one will take them seriously as an electronics compoonent provider given their history.
When are people going to realize that putting anything on the cloud, unless it's uber encrypted, and maybe even then is not safe? It's not safe from prying eyes, and it's not safe from vanishing one day? Personally I will never trust the cloud, and the sooner everyone agrees with me the better off we will be.:)
Groupon is a good idea, but you have to make a profit for each sale including the coupon. If you don't do that then you shouldn't be doing the promotion. Lost leaders help no one.
Well if you want to bring up Archos stuff, if you buy one of those things, better hope you don't need support from the company.
I couldn't get my 2 month old archos fixed, i ended up having to throw it in the garbage.
Buy something else, which is sad because it was a good machine while it worked, for those few days.
If the company releases a piece of shit product then it is not unreasonable to assume that their next product will also be a piece of shit. At a minimum wait and see if other purchasers of the next round come out.
If Anyone says they like anything or uses anything on a facebook or twitter account, you can be pretty sure they aren't doing it for free. And if they insist they don't work for the company, then they definitely do. And if they say something is crap, then they probably work for a competitor, altho that isn't always the case. For instance Bell Canada sucks, but they have no competitors.
Bell is just a terrible company. Unfortunately, at some point, pretty much every ISP has to buy product from Bell.
They had it so easy for so long, and now their competition is taking them down and they are having major suck fits.
They also got fined 1.3 Million dollars for calling people on the do not call registry. Looks good on them.
I would rather not have a phone or internet than buy anything from Bell.
I still remember the first time I walked into a casino in Vegas.
The thing that shocked me the most was that there was a bank on the casino floor that would give out mortgages on the spot.
Does anybody really think that an organization that will take such horrendous measures to relieve you of your money is going to be concerned in the slightest that you don't get treated fairly?
It's important to remember that the US is continually lowering the bar for the people that will be running the country in 40 years. Bravo, Bravo I say.
Maybe they should get some of those pro's over at the TSA to manage security for them. At least we know that no 3 year olds will be sneaking any information out of the building.
I have in my bedroom a Netgear Digital Entertainer Elite.
It supports 1080P as well as all the other lowly formats.
I have a Windows machine that acts as a server. I can access any of the shared directories on that machine. It supports 802.11n (which I use) and seems to stream high end video quite well. It also has an ethernet port, but I don't use it, and I am unsure if it supports gigabit or not, but I would suspect it does.
It supports youtube and a photo site if you have some software installed on a remote PC. The neat thing about the software is it gives you remote control over that PC from the digital entertainer. Very useful when you forget to turn on your torrents at night.
It has HDMI output on the back, as well as component and a composite output, as well as digital and analog audio. I originally had it hooked up to a 20 inch via the component, but when I changed to a 37 inch 1080P HDMI connection, everything clicked. It supports pretty much any video i throw at it, including MKV and really really old xvid stuff.
There is a version with an internal 500G hard drive, which is what I am using. It works quite well, altho i haven't had the need to store any video locally as it plays pretty much anything I throw at it.
The GUI is simple and i had it configured out of the box in 2 minutes. It took me longer to put the shelf up next to the TV in the bedroom. I haven't noticed it running hot, i turn it off at night. The box looks like a DVD player or any other CE device that yo would find in the rack. The universal remote is simple to use, if a bit pedestrian, and I haven't tried to use any of the logitech remotes with it, it did support the Sony LCD that I have connected to it.
I have had it loose connection to the "server" PC (where the video is stored) and it's a bit of a kerfuffle to get it reconnected. The issues all stemmed from when the virus checker on the video storage machine rebooted the system. A reboot of the netgear appliance was required. I have had to reboot it 4 or 5 times since i purchased the unit, which was around 6 months ago. I have not had to reboot it in the last 3 months. There has not been a firmware update in the last 3 months, at least with the automated download procedure.
Some of the menus run a bit deep. For instance, you can send a message to the appliance from any machine that has the software installed. Lunch, Dinner, come here, that kind of thing. the responses are buried 3 or 4 levels into the machine.
Overall, I am very happy with how the unit performs. I am watching video within 20 seconds of turning on the unit and picking out what I want. I have found that i need to keep the videos organized, as a long directory list (say over 100 files) can slow down the machine a bit.
It's a sad state of affairs that people have to resort to such drastic measures to get something that should be a right.

I heard a joke once.
it went like this.
How many cops does it take to beat a confession out of a suspect?
Answer: None, he fell down the stairs.

Some people are just jealous, hiding behind environmental concerns to cover their envy and jealousy.
is this so very different?

That's funny. I didn't know that. i think next time they phone me i'll ask them about their ethics.

Vegas has got to be the saddest place on earth.
A scummy lawyer sueing scummy email company, nothing to see here.
It's important to remember that the US is continually lowering the bar for the people that will be running the country in 40 years. Bravo, Bravo I say.
The truth of the matter is, much like the war in Iraq, this crime costs corporate America money, and therefore is of interest to every one everywhere.
Um having a facebook account and dinking around on farmville doesn't make you a gamer. It makes you a facebooker with too much time on your hands.
Maybe they should get some of those pro's over at the TSA to manage security for them. At least we know that no 3 year olds will be sneaking any information out of the building.
Very true. Seems like there are better uses for that sort of money rather than fancy chairs for kids, who will just wreck them any way.
Most interneters support an American kill switch

What a load of crap. On the other hand, I have found a virus that will immediately destroy your computer if you don't send me 1 million dollars.
One does not violate "intellectual property". One infringes a copyright, infringes a patent, or infringes a trademark. Which of the three would apply?
One migt think that pleasuring oneself to computer porn was a violation of intellectual property.
I wonder what they were doing up in Alaska? Probably whalin some Pailin.
