Imagine world where you use your fingerprint and a Public Key to get access. THen you can generate public keys for every transation you make. Finger print to prove you are present, the system sends a message signed with the key you gave it, you decrypt using your private key and send a reply back with the random data in the message (signed with their public key of course) to show that you are authorized.
Even changing our credit system to the later hald would be 1000 times better than SSN.
