It is not anti-competitive at all. The Sony PS3 and Nintendo Wii platforms are free to approach the same issue in a different way and Microsoft can do nothing about it. Also, syousef, you could launch your own game platform company and open up you game console to 3rd party storage. If this topic is really something that consumers care about then they'll beat a path to your door.

I really hope this works. I get more excited about science for cheap and clean energy production than I do about efforts to raise the cost of energy consumption as a means to drive conservation. Too much emphasis on conservation will lead to a world where only rich people have the freedom to consume large amounts of energy. Access to cheap and clean power must be pushed down to today's poor. This will offer lots of ways for them to overcome their systemic poverty.

I find that often hiring managers tolerate jerks in our profession because a lot of hotshot programmers develop a large ego early in their careers, aided by management teams that enable this disfunction. The net result is a work place with high turn over of 'normal people'. There are a lot of hiring managers who read Slashdot. My message to then is 'Don't hire jerks'. Great programmers have lots of options about who to work for. If you have a team where you tolerate jerks then good people will leave and good prospective employees will turn down your job offers after meeting your jerks during the interview process.

I find that most people are intelligent. The differences come in what they are passionate about. Most folks are very well informed on the topics they are most passionate about. Maybe you are a passionate software developer. That has led to informed opinions about operating systems. Good for you. Maybe I'm passionate about raising my children and making music with my friends. Please don't think I'm an idiot if I just don't get excited about dumping windows. For hundreds of years it has inspired oppressed people everywhere that their rights are independent of the capricious whims of the current dictator in charge. The Iranian people have a natural right to communicate with one another even if their current turd of a leader does not respect it at this time.
