One critical thing missing from Opera... by JaguarSavages (558510)
Better extensions/plugins. Firefox has earned great acclaim for its dynamic extension support. Extensions such as Fasterfox, Adblock, Web Developer, and many others are the sole reason people use Firefox over Opera
Hey, whats up with the answer to this question?! He dind't answer it at all! This is the only reasons I don't use Opera, and he basically brushed this question off!
Anyone citing wikipedia as a referred source in an academic paper (other than in one dealing directly with wikipedia) must have shit for brains and must be expecting to have their academic paper used as toilet paper (for the shit in their heads presumably).
I thought this was the first really usefull comment to my question, even though it was negative, and I was looking for some positive reasons:)
I have actually been to semi-rural China in the south and stood outside an old village in a rice field. This village was not exactly in the sticks, located outside a small city. But in the village in the backroom of a shop there were modern PC's with a high speed internet connection.
I was amazed, as here we were in a village where they claimed we were the first white people to ever visit the village, and they could (and did) go to the internet cafe and play Grand Theft Auto online if they wanted to.
So in that situation a $100 laptop would be a workable idea.
What do you mean? Are you implying, that people online would somehow be interested in sexually implicit material?
I say: DOWN WITH YOUR CRAZY IDEAS!
As we all know, the internet community is closely affiliated with the Catholic Church and it's uwavering fight against all kinds of perversion (including pedofilia, which no member of this church would ever engage in, ever).
Honestly, I don't understand how your atheism argument differs from those who would pit their religion against another's. You're still attempting to make your theories about life, the universe, and everything seem superior to everyone elses'.
Example:
A: I believe we should all dress as pirates to end global warming
B: Whaaa? You aer teh cox! That makes no sense LOLBBQ. USUK!
A: You are obviously trying to make your theories about life, the universe, and everything seem superior to everyone elses
I also don't understand why science can't be an avenue to investigate religion further. If science has provided new evidence that indicates mankind actually originated in Asia, perhaps we've been looking for the Garden of Eden in the wrong place for all of these years. Maybe it's in Asia?
Example:
A: Life itself proves god exists
B: You aer teh sux!
*picks shit out of own ass*
B: Besidse, we gots all tis fossil evidence 'nstuff.
A: No, LALALALA-LALALALA facts are stupid things and those were put in the ground by god a couple of thousand years ago.
On the fifth day people figured out how dumb they had been, thinking dragons, gods and unicorns existed and simply went about their business being finally free to do things as they saw fit. And things got better.
I think the $100 laptop initiative is a good idea, but I run into tons of opposition when I hype this to my friends. Yes, all my friends are very progressive and I thought they would jump on the possibility of bringing low cost education to poor countries. Yet they all point out that Negroponte and those supporting this idea are in the end, companies that are really only interested in profit, the computers are purchased by governments with alterior motives and in the end, there is alot more that could be done with this money.
I know of the usual responses to these. I agree, that it is questionable to have Robert "Fox News" Murdoch solve the third world's problems sounds like a joke, I know the media lab has dwelled in rather silly ventures. But I really would like to believe in this venture.
Could someone please think of something totally overriding (and simply understood) that would turn people who are sceptical onto this project?
Actually, this drive-by-wire thing is in trouble. Mercedes Benz anounced it would stop building Mercs with it's brake-by-wire system, as people didn't like them and didn't trust them.
The problem is, drive-by-wire controls, for them to be safe, should have redundancy. That redudancy makes them an expensive option and the benefit gained is minimal.
But you run into trouble when you are sampling a small part of the population, even if you have a fair sampling, say the 6000 mentioned. If half of those go online, then you only have a sampling of 3000, of those, half are women, down to 1500. And if you are working out what women online prefer, your sample is becoming woefully inaccurate, as there is no way to have an accurate representation of all demographics.
Besides, 97% of all statistics are simply made up.
So you are hiking along, wearing this in Iraq. The Mujahideen ambushes you. So what do you do? Try to get out of it asap? Try to run away, you big ol' target you?
Or how about this:
You are hiking in Afghanistan along a sloping mountain. You trip, or lose your balance. You have 80 kilos + whatever the motor and stuff weighs on your back. You fall forward, it crushes your back. You fall sideways, you tumble to your death.
Either way, this idea sucks and you are dead/horribly wounded.
"Help, I'm seriously injured! I'm going to try to get up"
"I'm anti-copyright, so I couldn't care less about who owns what."
And I love you!
Infact, I would like to rub you all over my naked body.
Why is it, that being against copyright alltogether is considered being on the lunatic fringe? I see no reason why anyone should own things that are ultimately products of the human spirit and human culture.
If I got to decide, I would only limit the right of anyone to make a profit out of someone elses work, every other use would be 100% free.
Imagine an army of handheld zombie spamservers!
This gives a whole new meaning to getting a RIMming...

-Respect expertese
-End people fucking up good articles
"That's funny. The two look nothing like each other."
Thats because one is an Xbox and the other is something that isn't an Xbox.
It looks just like a car heater.

"we can't stop trade in heroin or machine guns, and we won't stop people from trading these either."
Yes we can! Declare a war on green laptops!!
Remember how they declared the war on terror? Now its really hard to get any terror from the guy that hangs at the street corner.
Drugs are no problem, but terror -kinda hard to get right now.

To take part, you have to right click through menus, I suppose.
...why are Slashdotters such total cocksuckers when it comes to opera? Example: http://interviews.slashdot.org/comments.pl?sid=172 361&threshold=-1&commentsort=0&tid=154&mode=nested &cid=14352133

You are simply wrong! Firefox was first, facts notwithstanding.
Either way, Opera sux, Firefox rox!
This article was total crap.
Here is an idea: someone develop a cheap (price in the hundreds of ) ultrasound device that can be hooked up to a regular pc USB port.
Write up some open source software to go with it (so anyone can improve upon it).
Save the world and make lots of money.
Though it might cause men to become an overwhelming majority in some poor countries, the benefits would be enourmous.
"Wow, I just realized something: "Jack Thompson" is an anagram of "flaccid penis"."
That is so true! I played around with the letter and came up with:
Smelly Fat Cunt
Horrible Gangrene
Wormy Brain Pan
And the funniest of them all:
I masturbate to goatse.cx
Cool how having a . in your name makes it so much easier.
Just like rain, on your wedding day? Or maybe a free ride, when you've already paid?
